Miralax is tasteless and can be added to a hit or cold beverage. It's my preference.

My post-op manual does list Milk of Magnesia as an option, but I would prefer something a little slower acting.

Funny - there are people who do better with them and people who do better without them. My Water bottle has a straw in it. I use it every day. I don't think it makes me any gassier than if I were to take the lid off and drink it that way. I'm way more likely to spill if I take the lid off though (I often joke that I have a drinking problem because of this!).
The official line from my nutritionist was that you could use them or not, depending on how you react to them.

I used the cocktail straws. They are smaller and suck in less air. I used them to drink my Water in the early stages after my surgery.

I used a straw this weekend several time. I was ok I didn't seem to have extra air or anything.

I use a straw and have since surgery. I was told not to by the doctor, but was told to use sports bottles like Camelbacks by the NUT. Uhmmm....Camelbacks have straws. I don't swallow air when I use a straw so it's better for me to use one than not.

My program also says no straws. However about two weeks after surgery I found that straws were the only way to get my Water in. Since I'm a gulper it actually was more painful to try and "sip". My doctor said it was fine as long as it didn't cause any discomfort from air.

I like Syntrax Nectar Cappuccino flavor. It's a nice break from the over sweet flavors, also Unjury sells chicken broth flavor, Isopure has unflavored you can add to yogurt or Soups.< /p>

Had my surgery on the 23rd of July and glad to say no complications so far. Down only 10lbs since my surgery but not worried.
Just following this and one other forum/site I can easily tell that i am experiencing the normal stuff most other sleevers do.
In our pre surgery classes they told us age and being male had more risks or added to the risk. Also had a lot of friends and family praying for me so I thank God for answering those prayers.
I pray everyone is doing good and the sleeve is working for you.
    Lord Bless.

Sleeve was done Thursday, just checking back in! I'm down a total of 21 pounds in the last 7 days (from liquid diet start time to now). I don't expect that rate to continue, but it is nice to see a jump start for encouragement. The pain I had post-op was very significant and I'm still taking the liquid painkiller medicine a few times a day, but it is much less than it was before. I've still not found a way to hit the Protein target. I got some Gatorade G-series Protein Drinks that are 16 oz and 15g of protein, and they don't taste great but don't make me gag. I'm going to check out some other options again at the store tomorrow and see if I can find anything better. My wife made some Tomato basil Soup tonight that I had about 1/4 cup of and it was amazing! I couldn't decide if it was satisfying my pizza or spaghetti craving, but either way it really hit the spot. I'm looking forward to being able to eat something tangible like eggs, but I feel like the nausea finally leaving me is starting a "light at the end of the tunnel" towards the next phase.

I have only spoken with the surgeon about what I should eat. My doc told me I could eat a regular meal before my surgery, just nothing 12 hrs before the surgery. The liquid diet is to help you lose weight, not empty your stomach. It empties out pretty quick. That is why you don't eat or drink anything 12 hrs before your surgery.
I have read a lot of conflicting stories and finally figured (duh) that everyone should follow directions for their own peace of mind and safety. My doc said i could eat so I had barbecue at Dickies. After the surgery he came by and told me I had a perfect sleeve.
Now i have to carefully take care of it and not let what I "want" mess up my chance to live a better quality of life that i have prayed for for years.

What about a butter spray? Like Olivio or I Can't Believe it's not butter spray? It might do the trick.

Mick, I completely agree with Gman......the time we have left is even more precious. I'm 62 and getting sleeved in a week. I had a MI a few years back and even after that, I could not get my weight in check. But if I don't,,,I'm dead. It can't happen soon enough for me.

I am 65 now and I was 63 when I got my sleeve. Best thing I've done in a long time. It was like going back in time. The time we have left is precious, might as well spend it strong and healthy. I am now.

Mick, whether you are a man or a woman doesn't come into it. I have just turned 62 and I was sleeved on 09/18. The last time I looked I was most definitely a woman! Since my op I have lost 46 pounds (still to update my ticker!) and I do not regret it for one moment. I only wish I'd had the funds sooner as I was self pay.
Of course you want a better quality of life and it is NEVER too late to do so.
I am down from 7 HBP tablets to 1 and feel and look so much better.
Your daughter should understand rather than query your motives.
I sailed through my op and with HBP and asthma I thought otherwise. You go for it and start writing up your bucket list of things to do!

I'm 60, and was sleeved about 7 weeks ago. Best thing I've ever done for myself. One of my reasons is that I hope to find love again after years of being alone, and I think I'll have a better chance of it if I'm not obese. I would definitely date a 65 year old man, and I'd be a lot more comfortable about a long term relationship with any man who is interested in doing what's best for his health. All that said, though - you gotta do what's best for YOU.

I'm 71 and scheduled to be sleeved on Feb 4. My docs have all been supportive and say that the risks of the surgery are only incrementally larger for me than for a younger person
I am looking forward to the surgery and am optimistic about the results.

Doing great. Lost ten this week. Still a little gas misery but not bad.
Yes, you may be pushing it a little.(Lot) I went to the group home that I run, Monday and haven't been back. Worried about when I can return to my job at fedex. Very fast paced.
I start out feeling no energy at all in the morning but much better in the evening after getting down a Protein shake and Soup.
Sick of liquids but my wife made me some really good Soup and the "Better Than Bullion" broth helps with a little flavor too.
sugar free popsicles give me something to actually chew on.
It is staying in the hundreds everyday out here on the left coast so not walking at all. Just got the treadmill uncovered and will be on it tonight, Lord willing.
Can't sleep at night much for some reason. Got my days and nights mixed up I guess.
Hearing how you and others are doing helps too even though I am much older than most of you.
    Lord Bless

Had my surgery Wednesday the 23rd. Had to stay an extra day because of high blood pressure and could not urinate.I quit using the morphine because it made me nauseous. Pain level was very low except for the gas. Feel great today but still want to sleep. I think my biggest problem is going to be making myself eat and drink enough Water. Not hungry at all, just feel empty.
My doctor told me a few days ago that I had lost enough weight so I could eat regular food again until the night before my surgery. He said that a persons stomach shrinks up so much on the liquid diet that he did not have much to work with. He told me he was experimenting with me to see if I could stretch my stomach out to near normal so that it would actually be an easier surgery procedure. After the surgery he came to see me and told me I had a perfect sleeve.
