Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

"Warm and 80"..Ohhhh Here it is windy and 38 degrees. We will see 80 in June this year. What is nice we are trying to figure out some new garden areas for our yard. Summer is on the way. Keep your chin up. One thing nice about your surgery is there is no way you could eat normal food yet. If you have company visit alot with your water/ juice in hand. Good Luck

Today is Easter. Happy Easter to all of you nurses. I realize some of you are working today. Hope you at least get a meal for working. Just got back from a 40 min walk. It sure is cold outside but can't wait. Last year at this time it was 70 degrees. We are going to change our route so we go at least 1 hour a night. Some is up hill so it works the thighs. How is everyone else doing?

    I made a mistake!

It's sad to see such guilt over a bit of chocolate. With the sleeve surgery we are learning. When I signed up I knew it was going to be a new way of thinking and eating. Like someone said earlier-"I would have eaten the whole bag before surgery". and now 1 little piece there is dread. I'm a little farther out and I try not to deny myself anything, but I know I have been picky about what I will and will not eat. Sometimes it is a bite, and the rest goes to my hubby or the garbage if I'm at work. We gotta work on what works for us and NO beating ourselves up. Good Luck

    Pureed Cottage Cheese

The curds are soft you should be ok. By the way did you know that Daisy brand is the only real cottage cheese. It has milk, cream and salt thats it nothing else. And boy does it taste good. Linda

    POPCORN IS THE DEVIL.

I just count it my calorie intake. I try to inhale it, it is so good. But I gotta have the kind that has the fake butter. I know not the healthiest but I want some flavor.

    Incision opened :(

We are fortunate we have to eat protein, which is a healer. They should close fully in about 2 weeks.
  7. Oh my. I guess I would vent to.

How much food can you eat?

I am 16 months out and still depends on what the food is. Many rich foods 4-6 bites. Cottage cheese 1/2 cup, 1/2 grilled hamb., one chicken leg. Now micro popcorn 1/2 bag easy. I remember starting out and 2-3 bites of anyhting and I was full. It's amazing how everyone is different. Lost 62# so far. Got another 9# to go should be there by June. Good Luck
  9. My PCP moved a couple years ago so now I see a NP for all my appts. She can do everything a doctor can with ordering tests and such. Her visits are at the clinic and she knows me very well. Maybe try one of these for your provider. By the way she told me I don't need any follow up labs till next Nov. I was very healthly before surgery so there was no need for earlier labs. Good Luck Linda

    Incision opened :(

I was going to write what your doctor says. When we have a puncture wound in fat there is no "muscle" to hold together. It is common for them to open up but they will heal from the inside out (known as granulating). Just keep dry and covered loosely esp at waist area. Linda

please tell me this dont last long.

It's been awhile since I was sleeved, but I can remember feeling swollen for about 3 months. It does get better. Always tried to get my protein in. My tastes changed after surgery also. And isn't it something how we notice the food commercials after surgery. Even for food I did not eat before.

Do any of my fellow nurses just want to have all our overweight patients know about the sleeve and how it can help them? Boy is it tough not to share. Linda

How is every one doing? Today at work spent 3 hours in the ER trying to get a pt to a Nursing Home on an emergency basis. Not easy. Put me behind in my work. Ended up with 1/2 hour OT. Just prior to getting that call ate some cauliflower bites w/ pizza sauce, boy did the acid flare up. Glad I bring prn meds to work. I think it was the tomatos. Oh well, feeling good now will be going square dancing tonight. The theme is St. Patricks so I will be wearing green with my jeans. Lets keep this thread going.

Started Square dancing 4 years ago. There are clubs all around the world but all the calls are in english. It is a lot of fun. We have made some really good friends. We even carpool to other dances. Very cheap about $5.00 for 3 hours dance which includes a lunch Lessons are usually in fall/winter time. Google square dance and look for a club in your area. Some weeks we go dancing 3-4 x.

1happyloser2b-- I first was going to start looking at info on the lapband, and an ad came up for the VSG. I knew the lapband did not work but I was getting desperate. The VSG is the best thing I did. I feel great. (just the tiny problem of cross-addiction), but I can and will keeping working on that. Good Luck with your surgery and your new VSG Life.

taurabird- today was the first day that I did not think about alcohol and "needing" a drink when I got home from work. Still dry, and by the grace of God I will stay that way. I see there is a 12 step support group that I will checkout. For this group It's about our bursing careers. For the last 8 weeks I have taken on the roll of "social worker" and case manager, have been extremly busy. Today was day one for a new "Social Worker" can't wait to catch up on my paperwork. And our hospital changing to EMR electronic Medical Record- no it's not epic it's Medi-tech 6 one care. Oh Boy. Life is interesting. One day at a time. Linda

I just found this forum. This is what I need. I'm an RN and have been a Case Manager, for a small hospital, since last August. Prior to that worked ICU, Nursing Home, even owned and operated a Board and Lodging Home for 5 years. I had surgery in Mexico 11/2011. Lost 55# right away. Then started with alcohol slowly, then it turned to every night. My weight loss stalled, and gained 8# from March '12 to Feb'13. Have been dry since Feb4th. Lost 5# so far. Nice to fell normal again. I am so surprised that I had a problem with alcohol, esp. with my job and seeing the devastation that alcohol causes in peoples lives. I'm on the right track now, still get cravings but having no alcohol in the house sure helps. I hope I can help others and we help each other on this forum. Linda

    nail polish

The question is a good one. I had clear polish and fake nails I was ok. The reason she asked was some hospital prefer no polish so the finger Oxygen Saturation machine reads acurately.
