    I had my VSG on Nov. 23rd and now 4 days later, I realize that the program I am in is 100% worthless! I had my surgery in Tulsa Oklahoma..not Mexico..or a foreign country. I was promised the moon and back during the pre-surgery phases....but the truth is, I got NOTHING! The doctor at the bariatric clinic never showed up as he promised...he didn't even send anyone from his staff! I was there 3 full days! Come on...what is the deal with that?
     
    He was "revising" the eating plan...and promised to have a plan put together for me before I had the surgery...yep...that ever happened either. My neighbor gave me her info and that is what I have doing.
     
    My surgeon was great...I love and adore him! He answered all my questions..checked on me everyday, even on Thanksgiving! Even my pulmonologist came to see me everyday...including Thanksgiving day! But, again...where is the pathetic doctor (a old family friend of my parents) that sold me on the bariatric program? At home eating turkey and pumpkin pie, I am sure!
     
    So...here I am mad (like the anrgy birds)...and there is nothing I can do! YET! Let me tell you...you can bank on the fact that when I get to the support meeting on Dec. 12th...he won't like what I say publicly! He deservse to be put in his place! And I am the girl to do it!
     
    Go a head...enjoy your "bird" on thanksgiving doc.... but you will eat crow soon!!!
     
    On a lighter note...I am doing well after surgery! I am struggling to get in my fluids..but everyday is getting better!
  4. I am out of the 300's....no more 350+ either! I feel TWO-riffic!!!
     
    I have been battling a sinus cold...and my feet hurt soooo bad from the plantar Faciitis that I can barely move...but I keep walking the 1 1/2 miles per day and all the other stuff that I do on a daily bases. Timing was great on the sinus cold though...I would rather have it now..than to have it while I am recovering from surgery.
     
    Let's see what else am I doing...
     
    I have been on the liquid pre-op diet for 13 days now....it really hasn't been that difficult. Here is what I eat every day (or close to it).
     
    4oz 1% milk with a scoop of IsoFlex Protein (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
    Egg drop soup or other soup stocks
    Jello
    Decaf tea and coffee
    Over 80 oz of water per day
     
    That is my new diet! In those 12 days..I have lost 8.8lbs! That is good...but I was hoping for a bigger number!
     
    I excercise daily...most of the time it is me walking 1 1/2 miles per day. I can't do cardio because of my AFib..and bad knee. So walking is my friend. I bought the Zumba...but haven't been doing it...why you ask... I have no cordination ...and it frustates me. I will keep trying though.
     
    What else..
     
    Surgery is in 10 days! Yes...10 days...next Wednesday! I am so excited for this..I have worked very hard to reach my goal..(being under 300 lbs before surgery) and now that I am there (298.2) I am ready! I don't have any major fears... surgery itself is scary but I have a great team of doctors and my surgeon is the BEST! If I have any concerns it is post-surgery with blood clots...I take coumidin and that is always scary! My pulmonologist is awesome and I know he will take great care of me.
     
    Family... oh how I love the support I am getting from everyone. NO ONE is unsupportive in my friends and family circle. I am truly blessed and I know this after ready the post on here. My family has prepared and is waiting patiently for the surgery day too.

  5. I am pre-op on the liquid diet...walking 1 1/2-2 miles a day! Why is the scale going the other way! I have gained 1 pound! That makes no sense to me!
     
    I am averaging...
     
    800-1000 calories per day
    90-115 proteins per day
    70-80 carbs per day
    20-25 fats per day
    80-100 oz of water/liquids per day
     
    (No sugar, no soda, no real food..nothing but protein shakes with 1% milk, gogurts, sugar-free pudding and soup broth)
    PLUS...I exercise!
     
    What am I doing wrong? The scale has varied...

    Grrrrrrrrrrr.... not a good morning! I was so excited to see anything under 300lbs today! But...NOOOO! I get up early and step on the scale (after 5 days of liquids) and see that I gained 1/2 pound! WHAT?! and HOW?! I am exercising...sticking to s strict liquid diet..so what the heck?
     
    I know it is just a 1/2 pound...but let me tell ya..to me it was like 10 lbs! I want to see that scale sing any number under 300! "299.11"...I don't care...I just want it!
     
    Oh well...had to get that off my chest! I am better now..and have strong hope for tomorrow! More water and walk a little longer today...surely that will help improve my numbers on the scale!

    Blogging? Humm..not sure I get the whole thing but here I go!

    Beginning weight: 351.8 (July 2011)
    Current weight: 307.8 (Oct. 5, 2011)
     
    I am a southern lady living in central Oklahoma..married to a amazing man..raising our 8 children. That is the basics! I am having the VGS on Nov. 2, 2011 and truly feel this is the best decision for me! I just turned 44 yrs old...and have thought about gastric bypass for over 10 yrs now. Timing is everything..and this time is MY time! I had some issues with guilt...feeling guilty for being selfish..feeling as if I am talking money out of the family funds to do this...but when it is all said and done..the family will benefit from it too. Everyone is extremely supportive...I have the best husband ever...he is my biggest fan! I am very blessed!
     
    Well....I have watch the VGS videos and have talked to many people who have had the surgery...all of this has made me feel good about my decision. I began the program 2 months ago...and have since lost 44 pounds...by doing the 1200 cals, 90 carbs, 80-100 proteins and 50 fats. I have lost enough weight now to exercise. I walk 1.5 miles per day! I have gone from a tight size 28 to a size 24 in just 2 months.
     
    My decision to do this has nothing to do with the number on the scale. It has everything to do with my family. In May 2011 I was told by my doctor that I could not walk anymore...my right knee was almost bone on bone. The pain was unbearable. After weeks of feeling sorry for myself..I decided it was time to take control of this and correct it. On Aug. 2, 2011 I enrolled into the Bariatrics program. I have never felt so confident about anything.
     
    My "Ahhh" moment was when I realize that if I didn't change..I would become a burden to my husband and children! I could never bare the thought of hindering this family all because I was FAT!
     
    I am excited to exercise...which is a 1st for me! I love "speed walking" and I just bought Zumba! I have no natural given rythem..so time will tell!
     
    My whole life...I have heard "You are such a beautiful woman..", "You have such a pretty face..." and etc. Well...I want to change that...I want the rest of me to match the "pretty face"! I want to shop off the racks...sit in a normal seat...and when people stare at me..it isn't because of my size! This is my journey...follow me as we walk together in this journey to regain "our" lives!

  9. Oh mercy...I can not begin to tell you the shock I was in when the surgeon called me this morning (minutes before my pre-op) and said he had to cancel my surgery! I thought..."WHAT? I have done 3 weeks of liquids for NOTHING!!!" I even asked if he was kidding. He said no...he had a death in his family and had to go out of state the day after my initial scheduled surgery and his two other partners are at a conference out of state...so there would be no one to take proper care of me. I appreciate my surgeon so much and his compassion was priceless. But, my tears were coming regardless if I wanted them or not.
     
    After a few minutes on the phone with my loving husband I was fine again. God has brought me this far and I refuse to let Satan "trip" me up! I will wait patiently for Nov. 23rd to have it done. Yes, that is 3 weeks away, which means 6 weeks of liquids! Yea me! And...it is the day before Thanksgiving! Again..yea me!
     
    The holiday thing is no real concern...but it hurts when you've worked so hard to get to the BIG day...and poof...the BIG day is 3 more weeks away!
     
    Worse things could happen! So... here I am in a daze...
     
    The way I see it is... this give me extra time to lose more weight (62 pounds lost so far!)...and more time to practice my drinking small sips...and more time to exercise...and so on! Over all it will all work out fine and I choose not to worry about it. I am very grateful for this experience and I look forward to the BIG day...when ever it is!

    I heard a story yesterday about a woman (family friend) who had a RNY done and went home two days later and died! Tragic, right? When I asked what went wrong, they said the doctors say it is because she drank a diet coke when she got home! Diet Coke?!? Are you serious? Who on earth would do that? We are warned over and over about what NOT to do! There IS a reason they tell us this stuff!!
     
    These people give the rest of us (WLS participatants) a bad rep!
     
    I have heard all kinds of terrible stories about WLS...and ALL of them are self-inflicted. Unless we change our eating and drinking patterns we are not on track for success! I will never understand why people do these WLS's and then think they can continue on the same road that made them overweight in the first place.
     
    I think every pre-op patient needs to see the phsycologist...dietician and be involved in a support group. These things have been so helpful to me. Because of the support and knowledge I have successfully lost 45lbs in 2 months ....and my surgery hasn't even happened yet! If you are pre-op...and struggling...please check your local area for a bariatric support group...do your reseach online...talk to other people who have had the WLS already done. Just don't go into it blind...the results could be costly..in more ways than one! Remember why we are doing the WLS...to be healthy! Eating greasy bacon cheese burgers, french fries, pizza and sodas is what got is unhealthy...what makes any one think you can still eat like that and be successful with the WLS? Sure, you may (and probably will lose some weight) lose some..but in the end...unless you change your old habits...the results are only temporary!
     
    I apologize if I have offended anyone...but I had to vent!
  11. My bariatric program has been shaky to say the least when it come to organization...but the doctor and other people involved have been GREAT! We are now down to the final approval from UHC. I am turning in the 5 yrs of weight history today...and then we sit and wait! (And, PRAY)
     
    I am confident everything will go well...I have maintained all the rules and regulations...and have jumped through all the "golden" hoops! So ...no worries right?!? Humm....I wish!
     
    I am so ready to move into the next phase! I have lost 45 pounds already just by following the diet plan! So my eating habits have already changed and I am prepared for the new way of eating when the VGS is done. I already eat small portions, drink 30-90 grams of proteins a day...and get plenty of liquids. So...all that's left is the surgery! All hanging in the balance with UHC!
     
    Praying for a quick approval!!!!
