  1. I just can't do the shakes. Have spent prob HUNDREDS of dollars and I can take a sip and it wants to come back up. Having said that for some reason really sweet stuff (of any kind) just doesn't do well after the sleeve. I can do the Protein bars. I can do the unjury chicken broth (you have to buy it online). Now I am getting my Protein from food but it is hard sometimes to get it all in.

You are sooo right.....the smell and the aftertaste.........ewwwwwwwwwwwww....feeling your pain...........

  2. Right after surgery for the first couple of weeks get the Fluid in. You will prob not be able to drink 8 oz. You will prob only be able to get in 3-4 oz. Drink whatever goes down well. After you get sick and tired of Jello and sweet stuff, I found that egg drop Soup (you can even blend it early on) was a welcome relief. Don't worry about limiting yourself on sf popsickles etc. Your biggest problem will be staying hydrated. Little by little you will start working Protein in. Unjury chicken broth has 20 grams of protein in it and is not sweet. You have to order it online. It saved me the first couple of months. The egg drop soup also has protein in it. :) Good luck!

  3. Hi, Lab rat here! I have worked in the hospital lab 25 years next year and am currently BB Supv. Have a question for you guys. I was thinking that since we have to take B12 ( I am not low but since the sleeve surgery my doc has me on it twice a week and he said I will have to take it for the rest of my life that way) that it would NOT be a good idea to be a blood donor as B12 is very important in RBC production.

Does anyone post sleeve donate blood on a regular basis?

Do you have any resulting anemia? Has your docs told you yes or no on blood donations?

I was just courious. My hospital has a drive every month and I used to donate a couple times a year.

Plan on asking doc on next visit.

  4. unjury has a chicken broth (ok they sell it as Soup but there are no noodles so more like broth) but it tastes just like lipton cup of soup. I LIVED on it the first couple of months as the sweet shakes made me gag. I tried all kinds of brands and none of the milk based sweet shakes were tolerable. I get my Protein from food now.

I got an email from Unjury the other day saying they had a sample pack now. I did not care for the unflavored one. I found it did not mix in well.

    Good luck!

  5. Gas bubbles get trapped inside your body and have to work their way out after surgery. I was having severe shoulder pain. It was gas. At week three it got better. This too shall pass. Gas X does seem to help. Also having my hubby chop massage my back helped too. Good luck!

  6. I crack myself up...the other night we stopped at Cracker Barrel ...I used to get the "big breakfast".......what was I thinking? I ate the over easy eggs and was STUFFED..........oh well.....usually my 4 year old and I share so she ate the rest..........it is weird what your head wants and what your stomach can hold is two different things.

    On the good side.....I am down 75 lbs.....YEA!!! Went from a size 22 to a size 14 (which is LOOSE) :) ..........

Not in the fat girl sizes anymore...........get to go to the normal racks which is kind of weird..........

  7. my doc said any kind of Soup so long as it is blended into nothing but liquid........no pieces.......he even said cream Soups were ok.......right after surgery though you need to concentrate on just getting enough liquid....don't worry about cheating too much.....you WONT prob be able to get enough Protein in (they started me off at 40 grams.....but now have me on 80 grams of Protein a day)

just stay hydrated!!!!!half the battle.....until about week 3.....good luck....one of the best decisions I ever made

I think it is great you are planning ahead. If I had any tips for others.....I am mom and wife....and was really hard making meals for family when I did not feel like eating or could not eat what they were eating. I wish I had planned ahead and made some meals (like your soup) that EVERYBODY could eat.

    Again....good luck!!!

  8. YES YES YES AND YES..........you better just go ahead and get a tongue scraper (walgreens dental section really cheap) weirdness "grows" on my tongue....heard it is due to ketones???not sure but never had this before surgery and seems to be worse the weeks/days that I drop pounds...so prob true....good news is....still dropping weight!

Scraping the weirdness off my tongue made the bad breath go away so now I do it daily with brushing my teeth in am.

  9. The way my doctor explained it to me.....the staples are actually like a "zipper" and not individual staples. The body realizes the staples are "foreign" material and the scar tissue actually "seals" all the way over the inside of the staples will no longer show up if you looked with a camera on the inside of the stomach. He showed me a photograph of three months after the surgery from the inside of the stomach no staples were showing only smooth red stomach tissue.

  10. No answers here...not at my goal yet either. On a personal note, I dipsticked my urine the other day to check for ketones (you can buy these dipsticks at the drug store like in the old Adkins diet days) even though some days I am not loosing on the scale, I feel I am loosing inches. Yep the ketones were there so I am burning fat even though the scale gets stuck. At least that makes me feel somewhat better since I am doing what I am supposed to do. Just a thought. I am the kind of person that likes something I can SEE. LOLOL......show me the money kind of gal.......need to change my ticker again....158......one measly pound down but at least it is one lost and not gained????????

  11. I was going to say the same thing as the post above me. When I hit the 50 lb mark my hair started falling out in clumps. It was so much I had to vacuum the bathroom floor almost everyday. I put myself on Biotin (doctor said works for some and does not work for others). At my 4 month doctor visit he up'ed the Protein from 60-70 to 80 grams a day. After about a month on the 80 grams the Hair loss has not stopped but is much better. Only a few strands when I brush instead of handfuls. They also said the hair is on 3 month cycles of grow and fall out and surgery and anest. can make it fall out too and not much you can do about it.

  12. It helps if you can figure out what triggered the nausea. For me right out after surgery the Protein Shakes made me ill. Also....wierd but if I take my Vitamins in the am with coffee they go down fine. Afternoon they make me hurl????Not sure why. What were you eating when the nausea struck? Might want to avoid it for now??? Also....the mucusy thing was better for me (right after surgery....now no prob) if I drank more had less problems with excess mucus. That got better for me about month 2. Good luck!

  13. There are ALOT of us that the shakes just don't work. They make me gag. I bought alot of expensive ones and can only drink 1-2 sips before I feel like they are going to come back up. That being said....Unjury chicken broth is my go to if I have not gotten enough Protein in for the day. You can only order it online.

Greek yogurt would be a good suggestion.

And to tell you the truth.....loosing ANY weight loss will get extra fat off your liver (even if it is not from a liquid source) My doc did not require a liquid diet....just a high Protein One for weightloss.

I do think if you are already on liquids you know how to eat after the surgery since you are on liquids then too.

  14. If I don't get the Protein in I get those hungry feelings. Instead of the shakes you might want to try the bars. I just can't drink enough of the shakes (makes me gag) to feel full. Try to eat the Proteins FIRST!!!! If you are really eating 80 grams of protein you prob won't have room for only a couple of teaspoons of the stuff you really should stay away from. Also.....alot of carbs (chocolate, ice cream, mashed potatoes) go down EASY but that does not mean you will loose weight if you eat them.....just saying.....good luck.....you are still early in the game so don't be too hard on yourself. I was not eating a good balanced diet until maybe month 2 after surgery.

  15. Just be careful. I remember reading someone posted that ketosis from weightloss can cause brain damage so you are going to have to be careful to eat enough to stay where you are and NOT try and loose weight while you are pregnant.

Congratulations! :) Children make life fun!!!!! You can always loose the rest of the weight afterwards! Congrats!!!!!

  16. This is just me....but if I ate that many carbs I would not loose weight either. Before you go and let them do that other surgery.....try eliminating the carbs and see what happens. Are you getting 80 grams of Protein in a day? I am just asking because I know if I fill up on the carbs (rice, bread, pasta) there is no way I get the Protein in. The protein is what keeps you feeling full longer (or for me anyway). A day's menu for me goes something like this:

    Breakfast 2 poached eggs

    snack String cheese

lunch Baked chicken breast and green Beans

Snack Nutts (pecans walnuts peanuts and NOT the honey coated kind :)

dinner Baked fish and some kind of veggie (i avoid corn and carrots) like field peas, green peas

Late night - if I have not gotten enough protein in I add a Protein Bar or powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth (20 grams protein)

So far the weight is coming off 3-4 lbs a week for me. Just thought you might want some diet to compare to.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

  17. How many carbs do you eat daily?

For me I have not really sat down to count them daily. I eat mostly Protein with a couple bites of veggies (mostly green ones....got used to not eating corn or carrots when I did Adkins diet) I am staying away from bread, rice, potatoes. Having said that sometimes at night I have a couple of teaspoons of whatever I cooked for family which might have rice or noodles in it. But I try to eat my Protein first and use the side as a treat.
