    OUTPATIENT vsg anyone?

I had surgery at 10 am. Was able to walk around that afternoon. Felt so good that I sent my nervous nellie husband home as his pacing etc was making me crazy. I could have gone home the same day. They gave me liquid lortab which made me sleepy. They also gave me Levosin (hope I spelled that right anti-spasm pill) to take for a couple of weeks. Sipping and walking are the trick! I loved going home the next morning slept much better at home!!! Hope that helps!
  2. Liquids go right through and won't stretch anything! Hope that helps. Someone posted a video on utube a while back where the doctor actually showed how it works.....might google it and see if you can find it.

  6. I do take a capsule (B vitamin) but I could not do that until almost week 4. I take my pills in the am with 1/2 cup of coffee. Yes the real coffee but for some reason I enjoy it and it makes the gross vitamins bearable. Not going to beat myself up anymore over the small stuff. I mostly take chewables large multivitamin, chewable iron, but the D and B vitamins are not chewable and I also take an acid pill not chewable. Thrilled that my scale is no longer in the 190's.......................................Yea!!!!!!! woops sorry got a little happy there!
  7. I know just where you are coming from. I thought I had a friend at work (we had been friends for 6 years) lost her mind when I told her. She started screaming at me at work so loud that someone came running to see what was wrong. She told me if only I would do Weight Watchers I would loose all the weight (funny since she is 60 lbs overweight and sticks to ww? and one of my inlaws is diabetic and 350++ lbs and follows ww???) Anyway....she screamed at me three times AFTER I had the surgery (which was great so now everyone at work knows my business) She is going through some bad times and I guess I could have yelled back but chose not to. Anyway the last straw was the other day when she told me "you know you are going to gain all the weight back" and "you know you really weren't TRYING to loose the weight". So we have always gone to lunch together but now I choose to go with someone else. The first week back to work she told me "so THATS all you are going to eat?" at my cup of chicken noodle Soup. She would not meet my eyes for two weeks and you know what? I am sad to loose a friend but oh well. I have a life and a wonderful supportive husband and great kids (which she does not and is prob part of the problem??)and am very happy with my life choices and if she is going to be angry and hateful, she can do it by herself. It is HER loss! I am happy with my decision and am tickled to get up in the morning everyday to see where the scale is which has never in my whole life happened!!!! I have more breath and more energy and am fitting in clothes I have not worn in years because I had outgrown them! Man you just gave me an idea of what to do with my "fat" clothes and if I were a little more hateful I would give them to her!

    NO COFFEEE POST OP

I am/was a coffee maniac! I had at least 3-4 cups a day (work at a hospital and up all hours) I was worried about the headaches from no coffee too! Well the first day and 1/2 you are going to be so goofy from the pain meds you won't get a h/a and won't think about not having any coffee anyway! The next couple of days you are going to be so concerned with drinking crystal light etc...you really won't miss it. I am 1 month out and do have 1/2 cup of real coffee each morning (I justify it by saying it is the only way I reward myself for taking the vitamins) Good luck you will be fine! I have lost 38 lbs (10 were presurgery) and am feeling great! COFFEE LOVERS UNITE! AHHAHA
  9. Refried beans with a little water added and a sprinkle of melted cheese on the top sticks to your ribs and goes down easy. Egg drop soup from local Chinese takeout saved my life ......be careful with the mayo in the tuna, egg salad...........goes right on through and not in a good way so try stuff out at home first! I know what you mean about the sweet stuff...I got sick of it too. Lived on cottage cheese for weeks!

    When does hunger diminish ?

My doctor had me on an acid pill (prilosec otc) and a anti spasm pill for a couple of weeks after surgery. He said I could stop both whenever I felt like it. I stopped the acid pill and had more "hunger rumbling" then I researched it and many doctors leave their patients on an acid pill for up to 3 months so I started the pill back and it helps with the hunger "wierd knot in the middle of my back when I am hungry feeling". I noticed the more Protein drinks the more "squirts". Getting on real food helped stop that. Alot of tips I am reading on this forum have really helped. I read about others and the acid pill, the protein squirts, and it is true what someone said about the "sugar alcohol" gives me gas. Learning as I go! Having a great day today (both my kids are home including my "college" one ) and hubby is smoking some chicken so I can try chicken salad! Life is GOOD!
  11. I am on week 4 and have been eating Gas X chewables like candy. The first times I ate mushes it was eat a bite burp and repeat. I have noticed just this last week that I have not had to take any. The burps are getting less. Good news!
  12. Thanks for posting! You give me encouragement! You look GREAT!

    What have I done!!!!

HUGS! The hospital part is some of the "not so fun part". I am 4 weeks out almost today! I feel great! I have lost 38 ish pounds since surgery. Trust me on this everyday I wake up with a SMILE! For years I dreaded getting on the scale....now I can't wait! I have more energy, am not so out of breath, clothes are getting looser everyday! I woke up in the hospital just like you and thought "what have I done?" Try to stay calm and think about how you are moving in the right direction. The first couple of days are hardest. Try to just take it minute by minute! Sip and walk. You are going to be proud of yourself really soon!
  14. I had gas pain bad in upper back near shoulders. Jacuzzi tub helped ALOT. Also sounds weird but hubby gently beating on my back with his fists seemed to help alot( kind of like burping a baby? hahaha). I kept taking GasX chewables ( not sure if it really helps once it is in the tissues) Moving around more also helps gas to "dissapate". Sorry, sorry! It is very uncomfortable but it does go away! I remember mine went away around day 10 because my first doctors visit was day 7 and it was pretty bad.
  15. For years - I have probably been up and down 40-50 lbs three or four times in my life - Adkins or Sugarbusters seemed to work the best on me. Now I find myself one month out of sleeve surgery and not able to eat red meat or chicken yet (which for years has been my mainstay - avoid the carbs and eat the lean meats right?). Since the surgery I am not hungry at all. The only way I know to eat is I get a weird kind of pain in the middle of my back and realize it is meal time. Presurgery I did the shakes and protein pudding and lost some pounds and thought the shakes would work for me after surgery. I am not sure what happened but since the surgery the shakes make me GAG. It is so weird to have to 'make" myself eat something. After years of being able to eat everything and anything.....I find myself standing in the kitchen scratching my head ALOT. I am really not hungry. I think to myself "drink the shake" and almost immediatly think "barf". I have ordered the chicken soup with protein added. I am hoping when it gets here that will help my problem. I really can't eat enough real food right now to meet the protein 40-50 mark and I really just can't do the shakes. Will there come a time when I can eat enough meat to not have to do the protein supplements? Will it hurt for now if I only get 30 ish of protein for the next couple of weeks? I am loosing alot of weight and my energy and stamina feel fine. I have lost 37 lbs so far (10 were presurgery). Thanks for any suggestions.

    Returning to work

Went to work 7 days after. I sit down to work most of the day. I had to be really careful what I ate at work the first couple of days at work (due to the gas and rumbling of my tummy and the first week some things if they had any oil or grease gave me diarrea which at work is a nightmare) but incision wise work was fine. I did find I got tired and called it quits before the 12 hours was up. Hope that helps.
  17. Ok, so it is my first post on here. Just a warning to those who are just fixing to start exercizing for the first time after getting sleeve. Stomach started gurgling.....and just a heads up.....MAKE SURE YOU ARE CLOSE TO A POTTY THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES YOU EXERCIZE...It was ok...I made it to the house Lost 37 lbs since May 23! Yea Me!
