    ANY JUNE SLEEVERS OUT THERE???

My surgery is scheduled for June 7th. That's one week from today. This time next week I will be out of surgery and probably will have walked by now. I'm getting a bit anxious. I begin my pre-op diet on Sat (3 days on full liquids) but am trying to eat better this week. It seems like each morning I wonder if this is really necessary and then by the end of the day I realize that it's the best thing for me. From what I've read I'm not the only one who feels like this. Best of luck to all the June Sleevers!

    My hubbie hates me, lmao

I always think it's interesting how each dr has a different protocol for the same procedure. My dr has his pts do a 3 day full liquid pre op diet followed by the first 3 days post op on clear liquids then followed by 5 wks of full liquids and then solids. I know I'll be ready to eat after 5.5 wks of liquids but i also have comfort that my tummy will be nicely healed by that time. Good luck to us all!!
  7. Thanks I'd like that.

  8. Congrats Valentina, I'm a day behind you and I'm almost ready too. Good luck and we can keep posted on here. BTW, I'm "anewbeginning" but changed my name to meandmylittledog since I have a little dog (sounded more like me) Best of luck!

What is it like having WLS

Thanks for the great post. I am scheduled to have the sleeve on June 7th. My "come to wls" has really happened quite quickly but still feel it's the right thing for me. My insurance will not pay for it, therefore, I'm cash pay. I have a good friend who just had the surgery on May 16th and she's doing great. We had discussed the Lap Band a few years ago and then for whatever reason we didn't pursue it any further. So when I heard that she was going to have vsg I was so happy for her and it got me thinking about myself again. I have been overweight for the last 12 years and then before that I was smaller than I am now but still overweight for probably another 10 years. I'm only 42 so that's 1/2 of my life. I have dieted and worked out several times in my life but it always comes back and usually plus some. My life doesn't consist of anything really "fun" because after work I'm just too tired to do anything. I walk my dog around the block and then come in and sit down. I don't do things because of my weight. I'm so tired of it holding me back. I'm ready to work at learning how to use this fabulous tool and lose this weight once and for all! In the past I never thought surgery was the answer, but then again, I never researched it or really understood it. The closer I get to my surgery date the more thoughts run through my mind. Like, what if I work out like those people on the Biggest Loser then I can lose weight too. But then again, I have to work and can't do that, not to mention I can't imagine having to do all that the way I'm feeling. I am hoping and praying that as I start to lose weight that I'll feel better physically and exercise won't be so unpleasant. I also find myself not wanting to tell anyone, other than my mother and my friend who had the surgery that I'm having it for fear that they'll judge me like I think I judged other's in the past. I sometimes feel like I'm a failure because I couldn't make my fat butt get up to exercise or I couldn't control myself enough to put down that huge bowl of ice cream. I have only myself to blame and I am so ashamed that I let myself get this way. I've never really been embarrassed by my weight but it seems like now I am. Does that make sense? I know I don't have to tell coworkers but they'll eventually notice as I begin to drop weight and they notice I'm not eating very much. I want to be proud of taking charge of my life and trying to help myself out of this deep hole I've buried myself in and not have people pass judgment or talk behind my back. I don't know, maybe I'm not giving them enough credit, maybe they'd be happy for me, but then again, why do I care? I care because it's hard not to. Has anyone else felt this way? I think it's pretty normal but sometimes I feel very alone in it. I really am excited at the thought of having control over something that has seemed to control me for so long. I am excited that as I lose weight I won't be at risk for heart disease which runs in my family, for diabetes, for high bp, and the list goes on. Being able to shop in a regular store would be nice too. Thanks for listening and any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Congrats on your success and I only pray that I'll be as successful.

    Bulging disks?

Hi finallyformyself, I don't have herniated disks or bulging disks but I work for a doctor that treats them. Yes, weight loss will certainly help with discomfort that can come having a bulging disk. Think about it, you're not putting as much pressure on your back. As you continue to lose weight and exercise (core strengthening especially) you will feel much better and hopefully won't ever have to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Am I alone in my thinking?

Hi, I'm being sleeved on 6/7 and I understand what you're feeling. I've had weight issues most of my 42 years on earth. I went on Weight Watchers when I was in 3rd grade and maintained a somewhat normal weight until I got to high school and then I lost 20 lbs and was a size 7-9 and weighted 117-120. After high school I ballooned and went up to a size 20, then went down to a 12, then a 14-16, sometimes a 18 but mostly a 14-16 for several years. Then I got married and I was a 12 and then really gained and went up to a 24 which I've been now for 12 years. In the past when I've lost weight or received compliments about looking good it seems to have sabatoged me. I don't understand why. I know what you mean, although I remember vaguely what it was like to be thin I only really know what being an overweight individual is like and the limits that you have because of that. I'm not sure what the answer is. I'm hoping and praying that with this surgery I will finally be able to feel good about my weight loss and not subconsciously sabotage. I don't have self esteem issues (other than the obvious ones of being overweight) so I've always felt happy and good with weight loss. I'm praying that this time will be the end of this rollercoaster I've been on. Good luck to you and your surgery...we'll figure it out!!

10 hours post op and feeling ok!

Sounds like you're doing great. Best of luck for an equally successful remainder of your recovery and also weight loss.

Pre-op peeps- I want to give you

Hi Meggie, so glad you're doing better each and every day. I watched your Youtube videos and really appreciate you doing them. To be honest I haven't watched a lot of them but probably will in the next few weeks. I wish you continued success each and every day with getting in more and more water and protein too. Like everyone say's each day it gets a little easier. Take care and I look forward to more wonderful posts and videos.
  14. Angelah, I'm excited to check out your Youtube video when I get home today. Neanie I'm having surgery on June 7th and with Dr. Hamn as well. We'll all have to stay connected to see what our progress will be. Exciting!!!! Good Luck Angelah, I know you'll do great in surgery and I'll be up to visit you on Monday after my pre testing is finished. Talk to you soon.
  15. I am scheduled for surgery on June 7th and can't wait until I'm not DYING OF HEAT anymore. I am only 42 and don't really think it's menopause because it doesn't happen all the time. I'm on my feet all day and moving around quite a bit so when I overheat I never really get the chance to cool down. Yeah....bring on the chills. It would really be nice to finally be able to wear a sweater in the winter instead of short sleeves and wishing I could wear my short, capri pants too.

Thoughts the day before my surgery....

Awww Meggie as I read your post I starting thinking about my stomach. I'm scheduled for surgery on 6/7/11. I keep thinking to myself, is this the right thing to do? Is this really an easy way out as some have suggested? Then I thought about my poor stomach that has always done right by me. Too right apparently otherwise I wouldn't be in this dilemma. I thought about what Crosswind just said about giving the rest of our bodies a break following some much needed weight loss. My poor feet hurt everyday as I stand and walk at work as does my back and knees. My body has tried so hard to keep me going and what have I done to say Thank you....I've just continued to stuff it with food. I'm so glad that you had the realization that you did for it has helped me too. I too will be having a serious talk with my entire body, asking for forgiveness and asking for it to please help me as I try to make things right. Good luck with your surgery, I know you'll do great and I look forward to reading your posts post op.
  17. Hi All, I'm scheduled for VSG on June 7th and although it's a ways off, I want to be prepared for pre-op and post-op. I'm requred to complete a 3 day pre-op diet consisting of full liquids and then I'll be on those for 5 weeks post op as well. I've read so many great things on here but if anyone could point me to a list of things to get that would be great. If not, lets make one here. Vitamins, what kinds should I get? Should I begin them prior to my surgery? Most of you drink Protein shakes, however, some don't. I'm not sure I understand exactly what Full Liquids are. Any help you can suggest so that I can be fully prepared for my surgery would be greatly appreciated. Tiffykins, I know you always have such good advice, do you have a list? Thanks to you all.
  18. Sure, we can compare notes along the way. Where is your surgery? Mine is in DFW.
  19. Dawn of a new day thanks for the great list. I guess I wasn't aware that we'd need so many vitamins. Since this is NOT a malabsorption surgery I didn't think we'd need to worry so much about vitamins. Is this mainly for post op as we're healing and because we may not be able to get all our nutrients via food in the first months? Good luck, I hope you get your surgery date soon.

    vsg

Good Luck on your surgery tomorrow. I'm sure you'll do great. Do what the docs tell you and like everyone on here says, sip, sip, sip. I look forward to hearing how it goes.
  21. My insurance won't pay since I have an HSA and my surgery is cash pay anyway. I wish you luck too with your surgery on the 6th.
  22. Thanks for the good information. I've also read about so many having to take an antacid. I've on occassion had heartburn but by all means do not have a regular problem with it. Is it a must that we begin taking some type of meds for it post op? I've heard on here where people have blended beef and some broth and made a yummy shake. If that is done and then strained is that ok to have? Thanks again for the good ideas, please keep them coming.
  23. Hi, I'm new to this forum and am so thankful that it's here. I am scheduled for my VSG on June 7th. I am cash pay as my insurance will not cover any sort of Bariatric surgeries. I have read many good things on here but I've read a few bad. Of course I know that each case is different but I'm afraid of what might happen if I have any complications (dehydration, leak, etc..). I've called and my insurance apparently will cover any complications from an uncovered surgery if it's a procedure that is covered. Does that make sense? If they'd cover dehydration than I guess I'd be covered, a leak however, I'm doubting since you only get those if you have this surgery. Can anyone give me some words of encouragement or even better some words from experience. Thanks to you all.

Cash pay and afraid of possible complications

Yes I noticed on my doctor's website that they advertise BLIS. I am going to call on Monday and inquire about it. I'm hoping they'll tell me that it's included in the cash price of the surgery but if not, I'm hoping it's not too expensive. I'm in DFW area so SLC isn't an option, darn it!
  25. Meandmylittledog

Cash pay and afraid of possible complications

I really appreciate all the good advice from you all. Beadingnurse that is a good question. I don't think I'll have anything done, I haven't yet had my upper GI but if they do have to do it than that is a good thing to know. I'm just going to think positive, look at the statistics and my doctor's experience and pray for the best. Then I'll sip, sip, sip like everyone says and stay hydrated. Failure is NOT an option!!!
