Peas, onions and quinoa all have carbs. I would be interested to make this, measuring the ingredients so it could be input to My Fitness Pal to see the actual nutritional values. It sounds really tasty if there are not too many carbs for the Protein. Thanks for the suggestion.

I am surprised your nutritionist would suggest imitation crab. It does have quite a few carbs as opposed to real crab. The imitation is much cheaper, though. And we do need some carbs for energy. I suppose if you just keep track not to get too many carbs, this would be OK.

It is a bad thing over the long-term. You can't stay in that mode forever. Your body needs carbs to survive. You lose a lot of weight at the beginning (that's the point of high Protein, low carb diets like Atkins). But eventually, your body will start to catabolize or "eat itself". At some point, you need to start adding some carbs back to your diet. You will still continue to lose, but you need carbs for energy. Be smart about using your sleeve and don't sacrifice your overall health for the sake of weight loss...K

I tried this recipe today. The garlic was way too much for me, and my daughter said she could taste the cauliflower too much. I love garlic, but I am very sensitive to it, so next time maybe just a little bit of garlic powder or salt. Don't know what to do about the overpowering cauliflower. Any suggestions about what might be used to substitute? I love the idea of making my own nuggets. This will make a very easy lunch. I got 25 nuggets out of the recipe and MFP came out to 5 nuggets around 200 cal, 10 carbs and 20 Proteins. With a little tweaking, I think this will be a keeper. Thanks for the recipe...K

Count your blessings and don't worry that you are not sick. I had no problems and no changes in taste after my sleeve. You are just one of the blessed ones. K

Eggplant would probably work if sliced thin enough, but the wonton wrappers are not that high in carbs and will most certainly satisfy your taste for lasagna. These cups are actually better than real lasagna because they have all the same ingredients in the layers but are not so bulky and heavy. Try it with the wrappers just once...K

Glucerna is for diabetics because it keeps blood sugar down. Don't know if it would be good for low blood sugar. Ask you doctor. K

It is an eating disorder. Someone else on the forum posted on it before. I believe she said it was call "cupping". You all might google it to see if that is right. However, it is an eating disorder. No judgment here, just a fact...K

Why would a nutritionist think she can tell you there is no time to have a sleeve? What the hey!!! My daughter had the sleeve when she was working full time, going to nursing school, had a teenage foster daughter that got pregnant and was then taking care of a baby too. The sleeve was the least of her stressors. In fact she felt so much better while she was losing the weight that I think that actually took some of her stress away. Take control of this situation and do what you know is best for yourself. Good luck...K

Kidney pain is never normal. Pain is always an indication something is out of whack. Don't drink so much you drown yourself. Are your measuring? How much? Be sensible about this...K

Regarding the Fluid intake post-op, the post-op diet is generally high Protein with low or limited carbs. Like the Atkins diet, when followed strictly our post-op diets are designed to put us into ketosis or ketoacidosis. This causes your body to metabolize food differently and can dump a lot of stuff for your kidneys to filter. There are big words for all of this, but this is the general idea. In order to keep your kidneys from getting overworked, clogged up or stopping altogether, you have to provide plenty of liquid to flush them out. Therefore, if you do nothing else properly, you must maintain you Fluid intake.

I guess my pre-op diet was the best. Dr. Aceves did my surgery, and his pre-op diet is basically phase 1 of Atkins. I could only eat Protein, but I could eat things I liked such as eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, chicken...protein, protein, protein. Pre-op and post-op liquids would be very difficult. At any rate, everyone just hang in there. You are NOT going to die or lose you mind even though you feel like it, and the end result is worth it. Best wishes...Kathe

MFP is great for tracking you food, but I don't use it for that primarily. I use it to determine the nutritional value of my recipes and food choices. I have found it is great for that. Tracking you food choices is an excellent way of keeping yourself on track. I have done it a few times, but I am not fanatical about carb count like some on the forum. You need some carbs for energy and balance.
I think it is good you are getting into the habits and lifestyle before surgery. I am betting you will have fewer adjustment problems than some seem to have. Your pre-op guidelines sound very reasonable. Just don't let your good pre-op results give you second thoughts about the sleeve. It is the best thing that every happened to me and my daughter. Good luck on your journey.

OK...I read this and had to try it immediately. I used chia seeds and added 1/4 tsp baking powder for a little umph. I also used 1/4 cup 2% milk which will change the nutrition info slightly. YUM!!
Using the chia seeds and letting it rest for about 10 minutes tightened up the batter a little, and I definitely had to cook it a little longer than 30-40 seconds before I could flip it. That being said, AWESOME!!!
I am 18 months post-op and am able to eat more than I could at first although I still have good restriction. But...my sleeve would only tolerate about 1/3 of this at first sitting. What a delicious and filling meal. My daughter really misses pancakes since her sleeve as she gets hypoglycemic after eating some carbs. I think she will like this, and hopefully I will be able to sneak this my by great grandson. He loves waffles for Breakfast when he spends this night with me and I will try the waffle Iron next time too. I will probably get able to get 2 or 3 waffles out of this batter.

@Ljp - I tried the waffle idea for my great grandson this morning because he always asks for waffles when he spends the night. It turned out great. He scarfed the first one down before the second one was even ready. And again they were very filling. They are a little more delicate to get out of the waffle Iron, but they tasted so good and they are crispy on both sides. You have to try this. I put real Syrup on his and sugar-free on mine. I can't thank you enough for this recipe. Kathe

You probably overfilled. What you described sounds like a vagal response. I get that when I overfill and put pressure on my vagal nerve. My daughter does not have this problem with her sleeve, so it is an individual thing. The surgeon repaired a hiatal hernia I didn't know I had, so that might be the difference between me and my daughter. Be careful with this. It can make you completely pass out. Google for information if you want. It sure makes me careful with eating too fast and too much. Kathe

Hello all!
I posted this in the Recipe Sharing but meant to post it here. I've tried every kind of Protein shake and I cannot seem to find one that doesn't taste like a multivitamin! The flavors may taste good but the yucky bite is still there.
Has anyone tried the Shakeology drinks? My friend sells them but I wanted to get some more information and opinions first. What do yall think?
Its getting very frustrating for me. I know I'm not getting all my Protein in. Thanks!

I have always questioned the rationale of carbonation stretching the sleeve. Pre-sleeve, it we drink fizzy drinks, we burp. Post-sleeve, when I drink a Diet Coke, I burp. I do not drink them in the volume I did before being sleeved, but my restriction is still intact 18 months out. That is my various answer to your question. Kathe
