  1. Thanks, makes perfect sense.
  2. I understand this must be very hard for you. You are doing the right thing though by asking for help. I have not been sleeved yet so I have no real advice to offer but I do want you to know that you're not alone. I read a thread the other day that mentioned the 5 day pouch test and how it had helped the poster ( sorry I don't remember who the poster was). I searched for it on youtube and found some interesting videos and I think maybe you should check it out. Who knows, it may help.
  3. Thanks! I've never tried olive oil but I do have 100% castor oil and I'm going to try that. I forgot that 100% castor oil has those "healing" properties. I will rub my legs before and hope the shin splints stay away. Thanks for reminding me. You're right, hopefully once I loose the weight, I won't have to deal with it.
  4. Thanks! I am constantly having to stop to do the calf raises. I takes the fun out of walking. Like you, I start out slow but once I build up to a nice pace that will work my heart, I will have to stop. Needless to say, I've never lost weight from walking but since spring and summer are coming up, I thought I'd ask for suggestions.
  5. Thanks! Those are some of the exact same things I've read but they don't help much. I've seen a physician years ago about the problem but I guess now that I am older the pain is worse.
  6. Thanks for your input! Looks like walking might be out for me.
  7. Congratulations! I can feel the joy when reading your words. These things mean so much to us but are taken for granted by others. Keep up the good work!
  8. Hi! I never really been a "walker" because I get really bad shin splints. My shins get hard as bricks, they get really warm and red when I walk and they hurt like heck. I've tried different types of sneakers, I have to stop and stretch while walking several times and as you can imagine it is a pain to have to do this and I'm not getting the best benefit from walking. I have an elliptical and use that but walking is a social activity for me and I would like to join in with walking groups. Does anyone have any experience with shin splints?
  9. Congratulations! I can not wait until this happens to me. You must be so proud of yourself!
  10. I have a consult scheduled in March. Call the office and ask for Lauren, she's very pleasant to speak with and will give you the specifics. As far as a patient's perspective, there are a few members that have had surgery performed there by him. Mocha is one and she welcomes questions.
  11. Glad to hear everything turned out ok. Glory to God because He is able.
  12. I read your initial post and my heart went out to you. I am glad to hear you are doing better and I wish you the best. God bless.

I found your channel. I too will keep up with your progress. Good luck. We'll see you on the loser's bench!
  14. Sounds like you were dressed for the part. Good luck!
  15. Hello all, I joined the board a while back when I starting researching the sleeve and now I am back and ready to have the surgery. I am self pay and wish I can get it done now but I have to wait until the summer. I won't qualify for leave until then and my son will be out of school so I won't have to worry about him as far as homework and extracurricular activities and such. Also we have a disney vacation planned in June and my job is telling me I have to use all of my PTO before the leave will start so I have 3 reasons for waiting. It's very inspiring to read about everyone's successes and to learn from the not so successful experiences.
  16. I'm not sleeved yet so I can't offer any advice but I sure do hope you're feeling better soon. Thanks for sharing, I'm sure this will help others too.
  17. Thanks for the advice, I'll take it into consideration.
  18. This is definately good news. I have tons of shoes that are just collecting dust.
  19. You're experience reminds me of being pregnant. I wonder too if this is something everybody goes thru.
  20. Congratulations! What an awesome job you did!
  21. Hello, My name is India and I joined a few years ago but I stayed away because of circumstance. I initially started my journey in 2007 and that is when I learned that my husband's comany has a WLS exclusion for our Kaiser health plan. Yes, we have Kaiser and they will not pay for my surgery due to the exclusion. At the time, I was considering gastric banding but I wasn't working so self pay was not an option so I put it in the back of my mind and once I picked myself up, I started exercising and changed my eating habits. Well this did not last and I ended up gaining the weight back and more. I repeated this pattern for the past 5 years. At the time, I didn't realize it was husband's company that added the exclusion for WLS so I began researching VSG after I had heard about failures regarding the band and got the bright idea to change our health plan. I joined this site and did a lot of research and waited for enrollment. Well, I looked into all of the health plans being offered and they all had the exclusion. This is when I found it was my husband's company that had made the decision. Again I was crushed. I gained and lost in the mean time. I turned 40, started a new job and and decided to give myself a new lease on life. With my husbands support, I started looking in my area for surgeons and wouldn't you know, another road block. The prices are ridiculous. $25,000, $20,000, $18,000...if you're self pay then you know what I'm talking about. I certainly didn't want to leave the country for the surgery and it never occured to me that surgeons in other states would offer low cost options, I thought they would all be just as expensive. I recently heard about a couple of low cost options and I am researching the surgeons. I wanted to say that I am glad to have found this site and I hope to contribute and help someone just as I have been helped. ~India
