  1. 1 years have passed since you registered at VerticalSleeveTalk! Happy 1st Anniversary CandyGirl!

  2. *I posted this in another forum area, but thought I'd try here for some responses* (sorry for the double, but I'm just curiuos if anyone else has experienced this) I was sleeved about 2 1/2 months ago and for the most part, things are going really well. However.... I've had two episodes since surgery where I've nearly fainted shorty after eating. The first time it happened, I definitely can say I had a good amount to eat (mostly eggs, a piece of bacon and a couple bites of toast). I didn't think much of it until it happened again this weekend. All I had was some Soup (clear broth) and maybe 2 oz of chicken. Shortly after eating I got really clammy, nauseous and light headed. I felt like I was going to pass out, so I sat down and put my head down by my knees until the feeling passed. I went really pale and got very sweaty. Totally weird. Has this happened to anyone else and/or does anyone have any thoughts to what might be happening? Maybe I ate too fast? Too much? What's going on?! I have a call into my doctor, but I wanted to see if anyone out there can give me some insight. Thanks in advance!

  4. I'm right there with you. I'm 8 weeks out and I've only lost 4 pounds in the past 3 weeks. I mean, really?? I'm eating very low carb and getting in about 600 calories. I'm exercising (yesterday I burnt 3000 calories - I have a body bugg that measures how many calories you burn) and doing what I'm supposed to. I'm just hoping my body will respond soon. Good luck!
  5. I checked out that website and it's an interesting read. Thanks for sharing. Do you feel that the books are necessary or did you find the online "crash course" was enough? I'm still really intrigued by what I read. Thanks, again!

    5K

I haven't ran one yet, but I want to! My plan is to get to 180 lbs and then start jogging. I'm worried all the weight I am carrying now will mess my joints up if I jog. Who knows? I have in the past and will walk another half marathon this spring. Anway, here is a plan some of my friends have used for successfully running their first 5K. It's called couch to 5K. I plan to use it when I shed more weight. Good luck! http://www.fromcouchto5k.com/articles/training/the-couch-to-5k-training-plan/

I have a question about alcohol

Thanks for the info! I was my surgeon's first sleeve (he's done a zillion bypass) and I feel like he's being overly cautious with me in relation to worrying about a leak. I asked about coffee at my last appointment (I miss coffee more than anything) and he told me to not even think about it until I'm 2 months post-op. He said the acid from the coffee could damage the staple line. Ugh. So the coffee countdown is on!
  8. I'll be happy come January when everyone else is on a diet. lol! Being around all of the yummy holiday food and being 3 weeks post-op is a bit of a challenge. I'm trying to stay focused on family and other fun holiday activites and obsess less about the food.

I have a question about alcohol

I think I know that answer to this question, here goes... Come New Years Eve I'll be 5 weeks post-op. I'm doing really well, but man I want just a little alcohol to ring in the New Year. Is this too early? Do I risk a leak by doing so? I was just thinking a little red wine. Nothing with bubbles, of course. Any thoughts/opinions?

    Protein drinks gagging me

My doctor recommended drinking the no sugar added Carnation Instant Breakfast and mixing it with 2 tablespoons of powdered milk. All that combined with the cup of milk you mix it in is about 18 grams of protein. You can mix in Protein Powder instead of the powdered milk to get even more protein and it still tastes better than Protein shakes.

    Protein shake alternative

I've never really liked Protein shakes and I had an even harder time getting them down after surgery. My doctor suggested drinking the sugar free version of Carnation instant Breakfast and adding two tablespoons of powdered milk. All that combined with the cup of milk you mix in, you get about 18 grams of protein. You can up the protein by adding Protein powder instead of the powdered milk and it still tastes better than a Protein shake (just my opinion). Just thought I'd share because it saved me.
  12. I didn't have a leak test either. I, of course, was fully expection one and asked the surgeon as to why I wasn't having a leak test. He said that during the surgery they test the staple line and mine looked great. He also said that I was doing so well post-surgery that the possibilty of having a leak was unlikely. He mentioned that some people get sick during the test and the throwing up can cause unnessary pressure on the staple line and can cause more harm than good. He's a veteran surgeon, so I just took his word on it. So far so good!

    The drain

I wasn't expecting a drain, but I woke up with one and I get it taken out tomorrow. It's pretty weird having a tube protruding from your body. The worst part is emptying it and changing the bandages as I get pretty squimish. Blech. Also, I was told not to shower with it, so that's been no fun. I have to wait 2 days AFTER it's taken out before I can shower. I love my showers, so the countdown is on!
  14. That's a great story. Thanks for sharing. It's helping me keep my eye on the prize being just a few days out from surgery when things hurt and all I can drink are clear liquids
