  1. Yes it was!! Hard to look at a shake again. Lived a lot on the Isopure drinks. Ordered at Amazon and 40gr of protein, different flavors. It really helped me.

    Nuts

At what point, or time after surgery is it safe to have some nuts? I am over 2 months out and would like to incorporate some nuts back into my diet. How is the protein content?
  3. roboniko

    beer

It is different with the sleeve for sure. I had a drink the other night and since I couldn't have coke I opted for a Amaretto DiSarono on the rocks. It is sweet but low alcohol content and went down smooth, didn't even get a buzz. Haven't tried bear yet.
  4. I am just over 4 weeks out and have lost 50 lbs. so far. SUppose to have 100-110 gr of protein a day. Switched over to the long term vitamins/calcium the about a week and a half ago which is about the time my syptoms started. I have been very tired or rather weak feeling and a loss of balance. I was thinking it could be stress as a lot is going on right now but just not sure. Mostly getting my protein in but not the full amount everyday. Probably average about 80-100 a day. I will probably contact my Dr. today but I am not scheduled to see him again until the 8th. Just wanted to know if this was normal at this stage of the process before I "blow the whistle"..
  5. Same here. Sizes dropping and having problems with my watch spinning around. I am ecstatic about these problems, except for the constipation of course.!! Got to work on that problem.....

    FAT ???'s and PROTEIN???'s

This concerns me a little as I am told to take in 100-110 g of protein per day! Granted I am 6'3 but it did concern me a little. Since I have switched to the calcium citrate, centrum vitamins and B-12 supplement I have notice less energy as well. And of course constipation! This is not fun.... ANy suggestions?
  7. I am 3 weeks out from my surgery and am in the soft foods stage. Everything is going well and dropping weight like crazy. So far since surgery date I have lost 29lbs. My question or problem is as I am eating my tiny bit of food when I get to the point of being full that next bite becomes very painful. It is a sharp pain and I try to belch but really can't. They are more like baby belches and usually takes a minute or so for the pain to subside. Then every bite after that is the same pain. Of course when I hit that point I stop eating but was just wondering is this normal? I mean this is a sharp pain, not just a feel full pain. Went to doctor last week and everything checks out great. He mentioned that it may be a while for the new "esophagus" part to stretch a little and that was probably causing the pain. Just wanted to know if I was alone on this one.

    Painful Full Stomach!!

The problem is that it is all of a sudden. I don't think I'm fast as usually the food is getting a little cold by the time I hit that point. But I can have a bite of food and all is fine, then the next bite, BOOM, pain! Had this since the liquid stage. Difference being that back then once I could belch it was like the trapped gases were relieved and the pain went away. But now I can't belch so the pain stays. Will pace my bites in between but maybe I just did push a little too hard. I have also notice that I am hitting a wall these last 2 days. Course I haven't gotten all my Protein in either. Nutritionist says I have to have 100+ grams of protein a day. That is hard. Only way I can be sure of that is 2 or 3 Isopures and/or a Gladiator from smoothie King. But I know I will get over this hump, especially with everyones help and experience here.
  9. Hey SusieQ, How are you doing? I kinda got lost with the new look of this site and went back to work last week playing catch up. You OK?

  10. How do we do a private message? You can use my email too if you like. roboniko@cox.net It is funny how the doctors do things differently. I didn't have a pre op diet, just basically a modified atkins diet with limited amounts and that was only 9 days out. There seems to be no consistency.

It will take me about an hour to drink one. Usually in the morning and the evening and I just keep sipping on it, especially while watching TV or a movie I just keep it in my hand. I notice if I set it down I will stop drinking. Tomorrow is my first days back to work in full time so I am going to have to plan and REMEMBER to bring stuff with me. Usually I forget to bring it and then it is a pain.

  11. Feeling OK for th emost part. In the liquids stage till Wed, then pureed of whatever after that. Although I did cheat a little on the soups part. Went to Randols tonight and had a bowl of crawfish bisque, well half a bowl anyways. No rice and chewedthe heck out of the crawfish. It was good and most importantly I was satisfied both physically and mentally. I had time to think about if I was full or not and when to stop. So my bariatric team would probably condemn me for this I was actually happy and felt accomplished because for the first time I feel like I really had control over my eating a not the other way around. It felt good to be in control for a change. I have also had the cheddar and broccoli soup fro McAllister's. I blend the broccoli and I get 2 meals out of a bowl. VERY TASTY!

Averaging about a pound a day right now. I been drinking the Isopure w/40g of protein, 2 a day.

Who did your sleeve? Are you in Lafayette?

  12. not in louisiana! They have an exclusion for morbid obesity!!
  13. Hey SusieQ, how have you been? I am doing OK. Got the drain out Wed. and feel much better. ANother 4 days of liquid then pureed. Been under a lot of stress this week with work and my Dad. He has been in the hospital since the beginning of the month and I have been trying to take of his affairs and all. Glad it is the weekend though. Still losing weight so that is the positive in my days.

Went full liquids day after getting home. You doing oK? Are you back to regular foods yet? If so, how does that transition work?

How many days in hospital for vsg?

I was supposed to go home the following evening but I had a slight fever and threw up once so he kept me till next day as a precaution. I don't think I would want to leave the same day though, I think the next day is a good time.
  15. Hey Dave Keep in mind a few things, for example I have to have (Being a man) at least 90grams of Protein a day. I am in the liquid phase so the only way I can get this without gagging on some other things is the Isopure Protein Drink at 40gr each. I drink 2 of these a day and everything else is extra. No Problems. Many different flavors but I like the Grape the best of all. Secondly, follow your body and how it reacts. In the beginning, I was feeling very weak and tired so I uped what I was taking in, leaned a little more toward some carbs but not much. It made me feel better. Just be careful and tailor it to your body at each phase. Today for example, I had a bowl of broccoli and cheese Soup and blended up the broccoli and drank that. Was full and satisfied when done, still met the liquid stage but got a few extra carbs. I really felt bad before and much better (more energy) afterwards. Just remember that you are NOT a generic body, use the guidelines but tweak for you.
  16. Hanging in there but Saints lost so really jonesn for some comfort food NOW! Guess I will just have to put some hot sauce in the broth tonight! The time will pass once I can get back to work and I am already starting some pureed recipes to hit right away.

    Let's talk barbque

Right now I think I could put BBQ sauce on wood and it would be delicious. I am in liquid stage and the broth and protein drinks are wearing very thin. Guess I just need something with substance..but hard none the less.
  18. Hi Dave: No post op issues so far. I am in full liquids stage and hungry, I think. Tired of liquids. Think I just need something with some kind of substance other than broth and protein drinks. It is getting tough. Any ideas?

    Im getting scared!!!

I know how you feel. Just went thru surgery 5 days ago. I got really nervous Monday night and even worse Tuesday morning at the hospital waiting on everything to happen. A lot of sitting and waiting. Someone would come and do a prep, then wait, then someone else, then wait. It was driving me crazy. I told them my concerns and didn't understand why I was so nervous as I have had surgery before. Guess maybe because this was voluntary. Anyways, the drugs they gave me were AWESOME!!!!! I don't remember anything from the time I was in the prep room to the time I was in my hospital room. Really good stuff. Worries all gone at that point. Now the healing. You will do great!

    Let's talk barbque

Sounds awesome. Will have to give this one a try when I can eat regular foods. I am only 5 days out now so stuck on the liquids.
  21. Hang in there. Are you still on liquids or puree? The liquid thing is killing me right now. I am wanting some broccoli and cheese soup but not to sure I can have it. Thinking of trying it anyway and blending the broccoli down.

On another note, How many cc's of drain fluid were you going thru and when did it stop? I am changing mine twice a day and averaging about 35. Just wondering if that was normal, they are supposed to remove on Weds. next week.

    Support from Wife?

Well, back home now and doing the usual. Sipping and walking and draining... Most of the soreness is gone except when i cough. Still lots of gurgling. Overall doing OK. She has been there along with my best friend who is also wanting to do the surgery. So between the 2 of them they are taking care of me. SO she is supportive in the physical sense anyways, helping me with things so it is a start. Hope things keep going in the right direction.....

    Support from Wife?

I am having the sleeve on Tuesday and I am in need of the surgery. However, my wife is "jealous" that I am having it and that I will be losing weight "the easy way" as she put it. She is 5'6" and 170lbs and I think she is just fine. She is frustrated on her end of losing weight and I guess she is feeling a little resentful. Problem is, 1) I don't think this will be "easy" and 2) now I feel that I really can't talk to her or count on her for full support. If I do talk to her, now I will feel that I am just making her feel bad. STUCK! Have any other guys had this problem? Suggestions? I think I will be relying on this forum A LOT.....
