Ditto to everything BBJ stated. My life and health are worth the extra money. Dr. Aceves was the only doctor where I could not find anything negative about his abilities or performance. That was key for me.

I think before I started a program, I would track my food intake for a couple a weeks. Just to really see what my nutritional intake was. You might be able to see some discrepancies by doing this and make adjustments on your own.
I might have to follow my own advice pretty soon, as I'm am losing very slowly as well. About a half a pound per week. Yes, better than nothing, but really not what I thought VSG would do for me.

I was just recently sleeved in Mexicali by Dr. Aceves. Everyone told me how great he was and they were not wrong. I didn't have any pain or vomiting. I felt pretty good after surgery and walked all around to move the gas.
I went by myself and glad it was so easy . His driver picked me up and I did all my tests and went to a very nice hotel. Then after my hospital stay, he picked me up and took me back to San Diego.< /p>
The whole experience was as simple as it could be.
I am drinking clear fluids for 10 days before I can move on to thicker shakes and blended Soups. I've already lost 15 lbs and I am so excited!!

sleevesearch got a reaction from Pookeyism in Life Insurance After Vsg
I am applying for additional life insurance coverage thru my employer and have to fill out a medical history. I had my VSG in 2010, in Mexico. My PCP here in the states knows about it, and it would be noted in my medical records here. And I am thinking, as I write this, that I have no choice but to include it in my medical history for the life insurance.
I just feel that putting Mexico on the application that I will get denied for the coverage (the form requires Dr/city/state). I don't know....maybe just being fearful of prejudice.....
Has anyone else experienced this? What would you do?
    Thanks!

sleevesearch reacted to ouroborous in NUT told me to eat tons of carbs...say what?!
Eat lots of complex carbs (whole grains, vegetables, some fruit). Be sparing on simple carbs (sugars, refined white flour). Eat a lot of Protein, and eat it first. Drink lots of Water.
That, plus keeping your calories down and taking your Vitamins is all you really need to do. Please folks, can we dump the "carbs are bad" mentality? It's just not that simple. If you carb-deprive yourself, you'll end up tired and grumpy. If you protein-deprive yourself, you'll waste your muscles and eventually your brain. And so on -- we need EVERY nutrient, including carbs, especially when we're in deep weight loss.
There's actually nothing really wrong with 80g of carbs per day, especially if they're good carbs -- complex, non-sugar, high Fiber carbs -- not junk. Just keep your diet balanced and healthy and your calories down, and you WILL lose weight.
Please listen to your nutritionist, not random people on the Internet. Otherwise, why are you paying for her expertise?
I've lost >100 lbs following this basic advice, so clearly you don't have to be overly miserly with carbs to lose a great deal of weight.

I'm essentially eating whatever fits in my sleeve and gives me energy, although I try to eat more Protein, choose whole grains rather than refined, drink no-sugar-added juices or smoothies instead of pop, etc. But I'm definitely not on any sort of diet, I've had enough of those over my lifetime.

Your doctor isn't God, and he provided you his opinion. You don't have to agree with his opinion. You've done your own research and should form your own conclusions.
I happen to think he is wrong and that VSG will be the #1 WLS at some point in the future.
Get a new surgeon, and do what is right for you!

All of us who've been on diets in the past (before VSG), what was the average calorie intake to lose weight? For most, probably 1200-1500 cals a day to LOSE weight. So now that we all have smaller stomachs, why is 1000 cals too much?
Shouldn't the same math apply? We should all be able to lose on 1200 cals per day.....
I understand that with a smaller stomach, it is easier to eat less than 1000 cals per day, without feeling hunger, like we would have previously, but still the metabolic math should be the same and we should be able to lose on the 1200 per day.
Now for this issue, it is probably attributed to sodium, carbs and such. I think your weight will come off when you get back to your normal eating habit.

Funny how we are all different. Taking this poll will in no way indicate how you will do. I still get normal hunger pangs and eat about every 3 hours. The saving grace here, for every one of us, is that whether we get hungry or not, we can only eat so much at one sitting. This this is the one common factor that will help us all realize our goals of becoming healthy again.

Hello! Perhaps you should gain 50 more pounds and then lose them and THEN you won't be a loser? ... Everyone has their number, and yours was lower than some, and your LUCKY because of that, not a loser because of that. You deserve to have health and happiness as much as the next guy/gal on this forum, and eating candy this weekend or being a 'lightweight' does not void that. Enjoy that candy, bag it up for grandma and give her a big kiss when you drop it off. I can't wait till I'm as close to goal as you are!

Sooooooooooooooo, it's been awhile since I've posted. We're still trying to conceive, I'm still living a kickass life, and really everything is going fabulous. My business has taken off, I'm making money, earning free jewelry, enjoying a very active social calendar, and truly just living every day to the fullest ! ! !
Thought I'd share a pic, the quality sucks, thank you iPhone camera without a flash ! ! !
We went to Halloween party last night, I dressed up for the first time in the last decade. I had a blast, John stayed sober to be DD, and I rocked out all night long.
Beer pong is not a game for sissies ! ! !
"Why, yes that is a sheer skirt with leggings and fishnets in hooker boots ha ha ha! ! !" That was asked last night because no one had ever seen me dressed like that, least to say, we had a fabulous night ! ! !

sleevesearch reacted to BlackBerryJuice in How do I get in 1000-1200 Calories?
Your fruit and vegetable intake is 0, which isn't exactly a healthy diet. The low-carb myth is quite frustrating; if you look at the research, low-carb makes you lose weight faster in the beginning, but at the 6-month mark, it is no better for weightloss than low-fat diet, Portion Control, or really any other diet that results in lower calorie intake. Plus it just doesn't make sense to avoid healthy carbs like vegetables or whole grains for the sake of "carb-counting" but indulge in unhealthy sugary treats that are devoid of Fiber and Vitamins on the weekend. I don't understand why surgeons keep pushing it on people who are long out of the surgery, because the data just isn't there to support it, but there's a lot of data promoting fruit and vegetable intake to decrease the risk of many cancers and other health issues (high blood pressure, etc).

    **update**
I've been working with the head trainer now for the last few weeks. He scares me! :-) I love working out with him though, he's no nonsense, which is what I need. He explains everything, and me, like the sponge that I am, and just loving all the information and details. He's not a huge advocat for the machines, and is a believer of the free weights ect. I'm learning so much....for example, I've learned that I hate, hate, hate squats!
Anywhoo, just wanted to touch base and let everyone know that I'm happy with the new trainer, and am enjoying the experience, so far!
