  1. 1 years has passed since you registered at VerticalSleeveTalk! Happy 1st Anniversary sakmb49!

  2. I was sleeved on June 18th!! Best thing I have ever done for myself
  3. I went from one extreme to the next following surgery. For several days I couldn't stay out of the bathroom and then I went 8 days without anything happening. I did not take any pain meds once I got home and made sure I was properly hydrated. I have also been very active. So...I guess everyone is different and you should check with your doctor if you are really concerned or having problems. At my 2 week follow up my doctor said it would take some time for my bowels to go back to normal. He also said "less in, less out" and as long as I was not in any pain that I should let everything run its course naturally. Normal for me at this point is every 2 or 3 days. Good Luck!

    Gurgling Stomach

I was told that day 2 and 3 are typically the worst all around days following the surgery and I have to agree. Not that anything I went through was terrible but they were the most uncomfortable days. The gurgling should subside some (or maybe it just that you get used to it!!). It could be spasms from eating or your new sign of hunger. Just make sure you are really pushing the fluids. Its the most important thing for the next few weeks. Good Luck!
  5. Getting sleeved was the best thing I ever did for MYSELF and I would do it again in a minute. I have already recommended my doctor and the sleeve to 2 other people and I am only 5.5 weeks out!!
  6. Thank you so much for the ideas and recipes!! I will be home from vacation soon and should have my diet advanced beyond soft solids within a week or so. This is just what I needed. I have the rest of my family to consider as well so these sound great. It is very easy to get stuck in a food rut when you find things that go down easy and keep you feeling full. I know that sitting down and eating cottage cheese while the rest of my family eats a normal meal can't go on forever!!

    My 1st Vacation-Post Op

I am on vacation now. First week was in a hotel so I made sure I got a fridge and microwave. I was in my 4th week so I went to the grocery store and stocked up on cottage cheese, greek yogurt, pudding, watermelon, creamy Soups and Water. I also brought some of my Protein shakes and mixes with me. I am now in my 5th week (graduated to soft solids) and staying in a timeshare. Went to the grocery store again and got all of the above foods plus tuna fish, tilapia, peas, canned peaches and pears and some deli meat. This has been much easier than I imagined, even those times when we ate out - you can always find Soup, eggs, oatmeal or fruit. I used the gym at the hotel several nights and am getting lots of walking in during sight seeing. I have no idea how much I have lost since I haven't had access to a scale. However I feel like a winner no matter what the scale says!!

    Breakfast???

My favorite breakfast foods so far are cottage cheese, greek yogurt, scrambled egg and cream of wheat. I try to get as much protein in, as early as I can, to start my day off right!!
  10. This is what I call the right post at the right time!! I have been on vacation for one week already and will not be home for another week. Been having a pretty hard time making sure I am getting enough Protein while being on vacation. I did get cottage cheese, greek yogurt and some Soups at the store so I could have things in my mini fridge in the hotel. I also brought some Protein Drink mix, chocolate Protein shakes and Protein Bars for the times when I was out and about and knew I would be eating out with family. I'm really proud of how I have done so far and its been nice not having a scale too. Using the fitness center almost every night and getting a lot of walking in while sightseeing. I am just 5 weeks out of surgery and have a few more options to try as of today so will go grocery shopping soon However, I have a feeling I may not be getting enough calories in per day. I will take a closer look and start journaling my food on all of the remaining days of my vacation. If I don't have a significant loss when I get home, then I will call my doctors office and speak with the nutritionist.

    i want to cry....

I just underwent the sleeve surgery on June 18th. My doctor is very conservative and I appreciate that. It sounds like your doctor has the same idea. Sure I would love to have something of substance right now, but I would much rather be safe than sorry. The way I look at it is we have a pretty big staple line that needs to be treated with kid gloves for at least 6 weeks. Here is the general diet I am following: Week one I am on clear liquids only (soup broth, Jello, Water ice, popsicles, apple juice, gatorade and Proti Diet drinks I bought from my doctors office www.protidiet.com). Week two I can add some full liquids (Protein shakes and creamier strained soups also from the Proti Diet line are really the only addition they gave me from the clear stage). 3rd & 4th week will be moist & mushy foods (pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce, scrambled egg, mashed potato, baby food etc). 5th and 6th week is the soft phase (fish, soft canned fruit, well cooked veggies, string cheese, graham crackers, orzo, small moist pieces of meat). I feel so lucky to have been given a second chance at a healthy life. If this is what I have to do for the next 5 1/2 weeks then I am happy to do it. I must say that I am really not feeling the hunger either, so that is making this journey much easier so far
