Day 7: My Protein Struggle
Maddie replied to lavonwarrior's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I was only planning on using them right after surgery if I couldn't get in enough. -
I'm still struggling with the CPAP but am putting up with it for now and just hoping I won't need it for long after the surgery. This is day 3 of liquids. It's not really as bad as I thought it would be. But, I am hungry! It's very hard to get food out of my head but I guess it's normal to obsess on what you can't have. I don't feel persecuted at all by giving up smoking, food and my beloved dr. pepper. I see it as a path to where I want to be. Five more days till surgery and I can hardly wait.

Day 7: My Protein Struggle
Maddie replied to lavonwarrior's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still waiting for surgery but, I know several people have had trouble getting all their protein in, in the beginning. So, I checked into several different kinds. I found these protein ready to drinks and they are only 2.9 oz each and have 26g of protein. It's called Super Whey Protein Shot. I found them at Wal-Mart. They come in fruit punch and really don't taste bad. I don't know if this will help you, but I hope it does. Best of luck. -

trouble swallowing pills =X
Maddie replied to erh92's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was worried about this so I spoke to my pharmacist. As it turns out, not all pills are safe to crush and not all capsules should be opened. Get info on your meds to be safe. There are alternatives to many such as ones that come in liquid form and for ones you still have trouble with, there are compound pharmacies that mix meds from scratch in granule form. -
My broken relationship with food...
Maddie replied to citygal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, this thread really hits home. I'm not even sleeved yet, but on my liquid diet. 5 days of no food and I can really see how much of an emotional eater I am. For example, I had problems with my pc earlier today and the more frustrated I got, the more I thought about food. My pent up frustration got so bad that I had an argument with my husband, which he totally didn't deserve. I just kept thinking, if I could just eat something.... I'm finally past the actual hunger, it's just the comfort I crave. There's the real problem. What ever made us think we could find comfort in food. Shouldn't we be finding comfort, which is an emotion, from our faith or other people. That's why it never ends, because food is false, temporary comfort. It can NEVER really comfort us or solve the issues that drove us to it in the first place. But, I still want it! -
Re-Learning EVERYTHING: Food and my Energy Level
Maddie replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only a few days from surgery and have been wondering about just this very thing. If I don't feel hunger, what signals will I get to know it's time for "fuel", aside from regular meals of course? Guessing it may be different somewhat for different people, but maybe there are some common clues. If anyone is willing to share those, I would appreciate it. -
Gratz, that's great. Best of luck to you.

My sleep apnea has been cured. How you ask...I wear a CPAP. How does it work? It keeps you awake so you can't sleep. No sleep =No sleep apnea. :scared0: LOL Seriously though, after 3 nights with that thing, I am so freakin tired. I can actually handle the air. But having that thing strapped to my head is horrible. For the air not to leak, it has to be on rather tight and it's so uncomfortable. They said after about 3 weeks, that you start really feeling the results and waking up refreshed. I can't imagine 3 weeks like this. UGH I even took a sleep aid last night but all that did was make me feel more tired this morning because I didn't "sleep it off". Does anyone know how to make this more bareable?

Terri, 3 nights in a row sounds TERRIFIC! I'm still working at it. Thanks again to everyone for suggestions and encouragement, it really helps.

Like you said, there are many here who have had revisions and are so happy that they made the change. I think the way you are feeling is normal. I agree, your horoscope was very interesting! Best of luck.

Gratz and best wishes for continued success. -
SlimMissy, I'm on a pre-op diet. It seems they are very varied depending on the surgeon.

My liquid plan allows broth, protein shakes (made with water or skim milk), Crystal Light, jello, light drinkable yogurt and sf popsicles.
