  1. I have a relatively low 33 BMI 5/6 209 lbs (size 16) - I will probably have to self pay (I'm in san Diego so I'll likely have to go to Mexico) I don't diet and have had some success losing weight but my track record in keeping it off...not so good. I enjoy drinking a lot of Water - close to 150oz a day I like running 5k, riding my beach cruiser & hot yoga, Barre - I'm just wondering if those that have VSG are active before hand. How soon can you resume activities? I'm afraid of: The stomach being too small - Do you have any say of the size of your stomach Losing weight too quickly and having a lot of excess skin Of course I want to be in a smaller body for looks but more than that I would like to have long term health - my mom died of medical conditions caused by a lifetime of morbid obesity. (this terrifies me) So, since I have not been fully and long term successful at maintaining a healthy BMI I have started to look into other options. I try to eat right but tend to graze on nuts and fruit (too much). I limit gluten, soy, dairy, sugar, processed foods I drink coffee Occasionally, drink red wine. I have seen a lot of complaints about Protein shakes. I like and drink Protein Shakes. So I guess my question if you dont like them after surgery ...did you like them before? If I do have VSG I want to make it the easiest on my body as possible and trying to weigh the benefits of lowering BMI and getting to a healthier weight vs acid reflux, sugar intolerance, water intolerance and a couple of the other things i have read in the forums. I can't even imagine how running a 75-100 lbs lighter would feel. that alone would be amazing! Any positive or informative feedback you have is appreciate.
  2. I have read really great things about the doctors above. I have narrowed it down to these 3 doctors. I'm sure there are other very competent doctors in Mexico but I'm requesting feedback on only the 3 above. The all work out of hospitals and have monitored recovery at a hospital & hotel. Anyway...sound off on your favorite Doctor! (as long as its one of the 3 above)
  3. You could try eating the make up next time!

  4. Just for the record. I was not separating myself from heavier people in the forum they were separating themselves from me (or low BMI no other health challenges). No I am not covered by insurance. I'm not sure if we all struggle the same. I have a heavier sister who loves her 'curves' and I loathe being fat. Health concerns I'm not sure those are the same either. How could I even fathom what life is like for a person who is 400 lbs. Even helping my mother who was that heavy - I cant even imagine how hard it must be to use a lift to have people get you up for the day. I have compassion for it but I have no idea how that feels.
  5. Thanks Amanda. I read your entire story and all your posts. That is one reason I starting considering him. Glad you made it home safely. What an adventure you had!!! I'll look forward to watching your successes - You're already a champion!
  6. I "carry my weight' well too especially if I tell someone how much I weight. They are like oh my but you dont look THAT fat. You carry it really well. Well thanks for the compliment lol. My weight has been fluctuating for 26 years...its just the right time for me. Thanks for posting
  7. Not pigging out but I did indulge in a morning bun from starbucks today. it was amazing! I think I may schedule my surgery with Dr. Garcia on 4/22 same day - single incision sleeve. I have commitments every other weekend and this allows me to skip one weekend and have a full 26 days to rest. A group of us always go out to lunch and that would be 3 weeks out so i could have Soup or something. sashimi possibly. one thing that concerns me is that is very close to my TOM - has anyone read anything about this? I'm afraid I'll start just because of the trauma I dont have a lot of support for this so once I do it - they'll be no complaining.

    Dr. Fernando Garcia

I am inquiring about it with him. They dont give much information. Whats your question?
  9. What have you done right? there must be plenty of good things in this category to focus on. A 2 pound loss is awesome! That means you probably didn't lose any muscle just FAT. 2 pound of fat GONE FOREVER! Keep up the good work. Maybe next week it will be more and the week after that less. Who knows...You can't control that. so there is no need to worry or be afraid. if you continue to work on eating more slowly pretty soon you will be eating more slowly. If you continue to watch your portions then you will soon make eating smaller portions slower your habit. Just practice it and don't expect perfection. Focus on your successes and give yourself a little grace. You got this!
  10. Maybe Pdx isn't bored just helpful wanting to give back. I have always appreciated PDX comments. I agree its hard and sad to watch a train wreck

Thank you for your informative and inspiring story. Very happy to hear that you listened to your body and made good choices. I totally understand unsupportive friends and family. From the verbal yummmmmmmms this is amazing through dessert while I'm abstaining to the tugging on my clothes if they were loose. I'm especially proud of you, and you should be proud of yourself, for not purchasing a scale (we all know all too well that the scale is the devils seed and is a LIAR). I think I will be putting mine away. I would much prefer to follow your lead and concentrate on other indicators. Being addicted to weighing in would set you up to compare your efforts against others. WTG! You got this!
