    Protein

Isopuke (Isopure) tastes like fruit flavored liquid soap to me. The only two times that I have been nauseated in the whole process is (1) when they gave me Isopuke on my breakfast tray and (2) when they put a blue protein bullet on my breakfast tray. Both of them might as well have been Syrup of Ipecac.
  2. My stomach hurts if I drink after eating. It is almost like the cramp you get after swallowing a slurpee or margarita. It takes a few minutes but eventually the cramping passes. A big swallow of cold milk does the same.

    What about this tape??!!

If the tape is hanging off and it comes off easily, then remove it. It isn't holding anything any more. The tape is only on there the hold the incisions closed as the surgical glue cures, and then to reinforce it a bit. If the tape's starting to flap, it's time to come off. The discharge you see should be somewhat clear and not smell bad. If so, what you probably see is serosanguineous fluid which the body secretes as a response to irritation and is part of healing. If you have ever knocked a scab off early, you have seen the same fluid.

    Numb skin?

I had the same thing. The Dr. told me that it was a nicked/cut nerve. It will come back but it takes several months as nerves only grow about 1/4" per month. Before the feeling comes back, it will tingle for a while.
  5. For 2 weeks prior to surgery, he had me on a 1200 calorie diet which consisted of 4-5 liquid diet shakes and bars during the day (SlimFast Hi Protein or Low Carb RTD shakes, Diet Meal Replacement Bars) and for dinner, 3oz of lean meat and 1 cup of veggies. Tough at first but worked very well.

    Chobani Greek Yogurt

Do you mean SF syrup, or flavorings to add to coffee? None of the SF syrups taste like coffee, except for "Coffee or Mocha flavored"

    Aetna Schmetna

I have Aetna as well. I asked the surgeon if he thought they would cover VSG early this year and he told me that Aetna is always the last to approve a procedure. They were with the band and RNYGB. He said it might be another 3 or 4 YEARS in his opinion. He has a lot of experience in WLS. He did the first band in Dallas when the FDA approved them. I self paid and am glad for every minute so far, even though it is a bit of a fiscal inconvenience. Unfortunately, besides my physical rewards, Aetna is reaping big savings off of my expenditure!

    Chobani Greek Yogurt

If you have access to a Costco, they carry the 32oz size for $6 and change.

    Weird ?

I noticed because they pulled my catheter early due to spasms. It started off royal blue and gradually changed over several days to shamrock green.

    Weird ?

    Mine lasted almost a week.

    Milk

thinoneday, I highly concur on the Mootopia. That is some great tasting stuff!

    Milk

Mini-ME, I know about it because I was drinking nearly as much milk as water (it really tasted good to me) and it dramatically slowed my weight loss. :{ I backed off on the qty of milk and the free fall resumed :]

    Milk

You can try the regular milk. Some ppl become lactose intolerant after vsg surgery. Thankfully, I didn't, but others have. All I can say is give it a try and see what happens. You might try some Fage Greek yogurt first as it has probiotics in it and graduate to milk if you have good results with the yogurt. If you tolerate lactose, just watch out for the carbs, fat and calories in regular milk. (Ask me how I know about that! )

    The noises

My stomach rumbles to the point that my wife asks if that was thunder. :thumbup1: 6 weeks post op will be Tuesday.

    Tell me the truth.

My pre-op diet was 4 or 5 Protein shakes during the day and a meal at night of 3 oz of lean meat and 2 cups of low carb veggies. The surgeon said it was to strip stored glycogen out of the liver and shrink it in size to make the lap surgery easier and safer. If you are hungry, have another Protein shake.

    Hunger Issues

blaqk, kudos to you for wanting to jumpstart the process and lose some weight now. Unfortunately, following a liquid diet now won't bear much resemblance to what you will do then. Part of the benefit of having a sleeve done is removal of the fundus of your stomach, the part that produces ghrellin (which produces the hunger sensations in your stomach). Any hunger I have experienced since surgery is 90% head hunger, which is seeing someone eating, or seeing or smelling food etc. and then feeling hungry. My pre-op diet hunger was waaaayy worse than the hunger I experience after surgery. Still, every pound that you lose between now and then will make surgery easier and will be that much more that you don't have to lose later. You'll do fine. Good luck!
  19. +1 for what barbannn said about Dr. Nick. As a self-pay for the sleeve, obviously price ($12K) mattered as a consideration but not the ultimate consideration. I wanted highly competent with a lot of these procedures successfully completed, low complication rate and someone who would answer all of my questions. Dr. Nick fit those requirements and I couldn't recommend him more! Also, his staff is great and very attentive to your needs.
  20. Janette, sorry you had to go through the ordeal, but sounds like you are on the mend now! You will do fine with the RNY GB. I have several friends that had them and all are doing super, and I know you will too!

    Swollen bulge above incision, normal?

I had the exact same thing and was assured that as long as it is soft and not tender, it is perfectly normal. They did most of the "heavy" work through that incision and it puffs up with fluid. Give it some time (3 or 4 weeks) and it will finally go away. I actually had a brand new hospitalist and she ordered an sonogram of the bulge the day of my discharge. The surgeon and PA were appalled that she would do something like that! LOL.
  23. I have crushed mine and mixed with a spoon full of applesauce since day 1. They are REALLY bitter and I can hardly stand applesauce at this point, but progress has it's price. The Centrum chewable vits are not half bad. Same with the Pepcid AC chewables. My surgeon recommends 6 weeks before swallowing hard pills. YMMV.
  24. You will be very pleased with Dr. Nick and his staff. Great people to work with and a super competent surgeon!
  25. I tend to get a little depressed when I go 3 or 4 days with no change, but I have discovered that my body takes time every now and then to rearrange what is left, before proceeding. Magically, on the next day, I lose a chunk of about 3 lbs. Strange, but true
