  1. Hi Linda,

    Still looking

my lentil soup recipe (over-cooked) is a nice change, I suppose you could strain it, but I didn't and I lived on it for practically a week. Then I made my homemade chicken veg soup and stayed with it for a while too. (counts as a mushie I believe) both recipes ore on the recipe section here. I nibbled on lowfat Babybel cheese until they were mush and liquidy in my mouth, and that was very satisfying too. I did protein drinks and shakes too.

    Lentil Soup

I made this this afternoon, and it is so delicious I thought I would share it here. Doesn't even need blending as it kinda turns to a kind of puree if it is cooked long enough. 1 Onion chopped and suteed in Olive oil (about 1 tbsp) for 5 minutes. 6 cups of Water (called for beef broth but I only had bouillon cubes) 3 lg bouillon cubes (I used McCormicks Gourmet alll-Vegetable beef style) 1 1/3 cups dry red lentils 1/4 cup or so Tomato paste 1 tsp Italian Seasoning pepper to taste Add broth to the onions till boiling then add rest of the ingredients, turn heat down low and simmer about an hour, stirring occasionally. I must confess I found about 1/3 cup of leftover raost beef gravy in my freezer and I threw that in for good measure as the fat had been removed. I can hardly keep out of this - it is that good! much more Protein that potato or tomato Soup which is what I was going to make.

    well, no wonder!

I was self pay so only had to have my regular Dr's okay, and since I had just had 2 knee replacements the previous year and sailed thru them, he had no problem with saying I was fit for the surgery. Compared to the knee replacements, this is an easy surgery - so glad you are considering the sleeve, it really works well and once you are losing, & you can get rid of the too-big clothes knowing you won't ever need them again. I am amazed at how we at this age can do this and know that some of our health problems will be alleviated - I no longer have stress incontinence, or high blood pressure and am off my Lipitor for good! And I am still considered obese at 175 lbs. but I do believe we will have lengthened our life span by losing this weight! So good on you for taking this step, any questions, just ask away! Cheers, Donna
  5. back and very busy - working a lot, haven't even had a chance to do laundry, sorry I have been MIA, just have a lot on my plate right now.

    NSV shout outs

Tiffy, I am looking so forward to displacing enough water I can float in the tub! Wow, so great! But tonight in prep for my trip back to MX with my family, I soaked in the bathtub, something I haven't been able to do for a very long time, due to being so very heavy and with 2 knee replacements in 08. But I was able to get in and out gracefully, even knelt on the one knee that was done first to get out and it wasn't so bad as I thought it would be! Not a biggie for an NSV, but I almost cried with relief that I can bathe again and not just shower all the time!
  7. I'll send your good wishes along to my daughter and sister on Sunday when I see them. Leaving early in the morning for my little holiday! thank you for thinking of us! will talk to you when I get back - after the 15th!

  8. Holy cow, thank you my dear, appreciate your comments, has been so long since I had compliments on my appearance makes me tear up reading them. You will see for yourself when you are at the halfway point like me. I won't guarantee my wrinkles won't be showing greatly at the end of this journey, guess we will find out! LOL! thanks again!

  9. How about I email you the two pictures and you can print them or whatever to show the girls at work? I don't know how to do the side by side thing that I think you want, OK?

    Xmas pics

I have posted some new pictures (finally) - we got back from Lethbridge last evening having spent almost a week with Alison and family! Hopefully you will see a difference already as it has been three months now since my sleeve surgery. Almost 40 lbs! Yeah!!!

    chewing...how to....

its an individual thing, the idea of chewing well is to help the new tummy staple line to not have to over work and to give you time to fill it without overfilling it. You will find out about that soon enough! I eat much faster now with softer foods and still try to chew meats slower than before as they really fill you up and I don't want to eat too much and suffer for an hour afterwards! LOL, as I said it is an individual thing and you will have to learn what is right for you at the time!
  13. I got a 6 pk of Isopure Protein drink and have bought them at least 3 more times, drink them even now..I didn't use any of my pkgs of SF Jello, but did stock up on homemade chicken broth - ate the chicken from it later as I chopped the meat up fine and added them to the diet as i progressed. Yogurt and fatfree cottage cheese worked well for me, poached eggs after a couple of weeks, and, like Tiffy, loved the babybel lowfat cheeses (could nibble them to mush slowly early on) I bought way too much protein powders, and have most of them still sitting here 3 months later, so go slow on those, wait til afterwards. Canned broths or soups you can strain out the solids for week 2 are great. Crystal lite - banana strawberry orange is my fav, as we all seem not to enjoy plain Water for quite a while, but do dilute well as they will be too sweet at first. Grape juice and unsweetened applesauce are good at first too! Hope this list is a help!
  14. Mica, there are a lot of us here in Saskatoon that have had the sleeve! Come to the support meeting at the Cosmo Civic center this coming Wednesday (6th) and learn all about us and where we all went (several places in MX) and see what you think! We meet in one of the meeting rooms upstairs (up the long ramp!) and will start around 6:30 - should be a good sized group as so many of us are pretty new at the operation, pretty much all of us within the last 8 months! some really recently! So you can get a good idea of how it could be for you! Hope to see you there, Donna
  15. I have a lower side pain too, few a few weeks now, but have had it yrs before so I know what it is, diverticuli - outpouching in my bowel somewhere, and it acts up now and then, hurts to take a deep breath and when i press on it it seems to help. At first I thought a hernia, but after a lot of thought realized that it was this old pain from years ago. Seems the older I get the more aches and pains manifest themselves. Shoulders every morning are bad, had that before the surgery though, arthritis no doubt. ~sigh~ getting old is NOT for sissies, I always say!
  16. Don't you wish they would outlaw the band? So many things go wrong and sounds like yours was extreme! So sorry you suffered all that pain. Reminds me of my two knee replacements surgeries I went through in 2008! Thank God for morphine! Even so, was a bugger! I hope by now you are doing better and that the pain is diminished a LOT! and that you are losing weight and happy with the small amounts you can take in. (It does get better I promise) Nice to be home I bet! Welcome to the loser's bench!
  17. Kermit you little doll, what a predicament you are in, no burps to relieve the pressure! Can I recommend something that seems to work for me? Probiotics. No not the yogurt, but the kind you take by mouth. I have 2 kinds, one that is for travelling with, individual packets that you can sprinkle on your tongue, and capsules that you keep in the fridge, anyway they really help with bloating and gas and anything related to digestion. Worth a try?

    close-up

Thanks all, was a good pic all right, not quite how i see myself on a regular basis, but occasionally a good snapshot can happen. Linda, the wrinkles will give me away for looking older before long now, I see a lot more of them when I am being expressive. I do feel good, can walk now without back discomfort (had so much middle to hold up, was killing me) and have more stamina than before, for sure!

    A few NSV's!

I also have new NSV. (love these things!) Whenever I went grocery shopping or even to Walmart, I grabbed the nearest cart and hung on for dear life, I manged to log quite a lot of mileage that way. Today, I noticed, I grabbed a carry basket at the grocery store without even thinking, and did my usual trek around and up and down the aisles without any discomfort and when I navigated Walmart today I parked a ways back so I could get the extra walking and never even looked at a cart, just put my choices in my shopping bag and then I realilzed, I didn't even need a cart - anywhere! Yeah! My back can finally handle the weight around my middle for an extended lenght of time! Almost 40 lbs makes that kind of difference! What a relief! Also getting through a day of housework full bore without feeling exhausted! Had a family over for a turkey dinner yesterday so went all out from morning til bedtime. Gotta love the sleeve!
