  1. It just depends on what exactly they mean by "losing weight the right way". There are lots of wrong ways to lose weight, such as an eating disorder, diet pills, gimmicks... etc. I never take offense to someone who says this statement because for me, my VSG was "losing weight in the right way."
  2. Most times there really isn't much we can do to stop it, sadly. You can combat it by taking daily doses of Biotin. It will help your hair grow back thicker and faster. When you have weight loss surgery our bodies go into a state of shock (healing from) from surgery and a massive decrease in all the many nutrients our bodies need daily to survive. The most logical response for our bodies is to send all those lacking nutrients to our wounds to heal as well as the necessary functions to stay alive. Our brains, our heart, our lungs... etc. When this happens we no longer receive "extra" nutrients that supply our hair. Then it falls out. I hope this helps.
  3. I am changing my name (not officially but...) to LilMissDiva 2.0 Since I have been back in the community I have been really rocking. I've still struggled a bit here and there but for the most part I am on my way back and it's showing. Here are some photos I took yesterday. My tummy is getting flat (again) and I can see my face is thinning out (again). I'm enjoying watching my personal transformation (again). That said, I never want to go through this again. I won't allow myself to feel sorry for me anymore. I am STRONGER than anything negative put in my path. I just pick up the dust and clay, and make Pyramids out of it. It's how I roll. And THANK YOU to all my long time friends for coming by to check in with me!! I really have missed you, and I sincerely hope we can all check in often. There are many who can answer all of the same questions that many newer folks are asking, but believe it or not, they are watching us too. They are blessed that they can see what it can be like for them 3.. 4.. and 5 years and beyond. I or we never had that! We are the trailblazers my friends! :-) That's a very special and honorable thing to be.
  4. In the last few Seasons of Biggest Loser I've watched it less and less. Once I seen Dolvett and his demeanor with those he's training I started to get more interested again but never as much as I did in the first few seasons. This status isn't about Rachel and how thin she looked. I admit I only barely watched the finale yesterday and yes IMO she took it too far. That said, she is extremely competitive and she won. Is it okay? Probably not but that is something only she herself can work to correct. It's really UNFAIR to judge her because I know how it can be to take anything too far. I have an addictive personality and I empathize with her. Who would I be but a hypocrite to demean her. All I can do is pray she remedies herself. All that said it is also VERY UNFAIR to lay blame on her trainer. I highly doubt Dolvett would approve if he knew she took it that far. And especially shame on NBC and the comments left by Bob and Jillian on this issue. Personally Jillian constantly cracking her whip on those she's trained in the past makes me think she is full of hypocrisy! I can not support her anymore, as I had in the past. When she returned after leaving the show for the enth time she came back softer but I'm unsure it was from the heart. That's her cross to bear though. I will never again watch BL. I hope Dolvett does leave the show but as he does to take his personality elsewhere. To train people in a positive, respectful and healthy manner. From what I see of him, that is really what he is all about. Losing weight should never be competitive! ! I fight against this all the time. Anyone who is obese already lives their life with feelings of low self worth and inadequacy. So then we display a bunch of severely overweight people and put them in front of a TV screen, put them in a bunch of ridiculous scenarios and expect to be entertained by it? No. No more. This show is a clown song and dance... and shame on ME for partaking in it for as long as I did. In my own defense though I watched it more for the inspirational factor, but I see now that is not what it's really about. And I will not continue to be a part of the problem.
  5. Heyyy I haven't posted in this thread in ages. Well I just seen my flat belly and it's been awhile! I still have a ways to go but if anyone here knows me and knows me well, I can and will get back to it. Me at my largest and then me at my goal weight. Then me today 2.5.2014. If you don't know me... Hi, my name is Irene AKA LilMissDiva 2.0
  6. I have those moments often. A break is understandable from time to time. But just like that kitty I always come back!
  7. It's natural to be nervous! That said, do not think that the surgery will prevent you from ever eating what you want again someday. All the weight you gain right now due to the "last meal syndrome" will have to come back off. Don't set yourself even further back. All the best in the upcoming days!!
  8. LOL thanks for the vote of confidence! I'm surely going to get on it. My diet food should be here today sometime.
  9. Ive been kinda doing the bootcamp lite to get me prepared for when my diet food gets here. I WILL BE READY!! Great job hun!
  10. Actually I havent gained more stomach room since about 6 months out. I can only eat about 3 oz of Protein and a few bites of veggies and a few bites of carbs. I haven't got my package yet so I'm not sure how full I will get on the diet food. It's only 2 months so I'm not really too stressed. After the 2 months I'm going to start logging again on the WW Online.
  11. I really hate it when I have to think about what I'm going to eat all the time. I like to just know something is there so I can reach in my cabinet or drawer and pull out Snacks when I get hungry between meals. So... i did some research on Medi-fast. I guess it's being done differently than it used to (all liquids) or maybe I just didn't really understand how the system worked. I liked the idea of it, looked around and realized they had some better options and lots of variety. I get sick and tired of the same thing day in / day out - unless it's scrambled eggs. It's kinda costly, but I know that I need some kind of plan that works well with a sleeve (tiny portions and high Protein and lots of veggies) and have a large variety of low calorie snacks. It's simple enough and I know I can follow it. I bought 2 months worth of food! Well really one and got about another whole months worth of free food due to some start up initiation sign up deal thingie. I'm excited, I get my shipment on Friday per the UPS tracker. Ok.. didn't someone tell me that once I had WLS I'd never have to "diet" again? JK (before someone replies and knocks the breath outta me...) Anyhow, the jist of this thread is to see if anyone else has either thought of it or has been doing it? I'm needing some support over here. And, I need to give support too, because it's in my DNA.
  12. I eat Mahatma Whole Grain brown rice. I'm full after a few bites and of course with eating Protein first and my veggies. I grew up on rice! Making the switch never prevented me from making goal, going below or keeping the weight off. In fact I love it! Fiberrrr... does a body good.
  13. Woohooo WELCOME!!! Thank you for checking in! Best wishes on your upcoming sleeve surgery as well.
  14. I was prescribed to take ferrous sulfate, some high doses 2x per day because I was not taking my supplements like I should have. Okay, bad me... that said no matter what it is be sure to take it. I tried all of them, the chewable, liquid - but I never liked any of them. Come to find out simply taking them is more important, at least it was in my case. But of all the evils I liked the chewable the best that CGDR suggested above.
  15. That is the best response I've seen here and anywhere
  16. Sometimes I will boil it, just like spinach. If you get the large size cut them up a bit smaller. The end part looks like celery, I cut that up the same. When I do mixed veggies I'll do it as a stir fry using EVOO. Don't need a lot because it creates it's own juices too.
  17. Last night we had baked salmon, mixed veggies (bok choi, zucchini, squash and chinese cabbage) and some whole grain brown rice. Yes, I'd have to say this is my favorite. My tastes truly have changed a lot. I do crave bad things but I end up feeling sick when I eat them. Yes, I eat bad stuff... I'm not perfect. But, I really do love and crave good healthy and nutritious food now more than ever.
  18. I'm glad everything is going well for you! Do I remember you from LBT? If so, how are you doing?
  19. CgJ, that's a really great idea to continue getting your panels checked yearly. My PCP does that for me (for anyone out there that cannot see his/her bariatric surgeon) and each time they kept getting lower and lower. It's getting better though. A lot of the symptoms I'd been having are going away thank goodness. Od, thank you I am very glad to be here and posting again. It's a lot easier to get the whole story out in one whop than in bits and pieces! Ha!
  20. True! Fitting in to all those tiny cute clothes is a huge motivator to stay there. Then a few stack on and clothes get tight... bad feelings creep back in. It's so easy to say... "don't do that" but the reality is it CAN happen to anyone. And yes, if it doesn't your a darn lucky person. Good for them though! I'd rather not have to deal with these issues, but alas such is not my case. Thank you iegal, I am really grateful to myself to be back. Admitting I am one who needs help is the first step in any addiction therapy group! God Bless! I didn't know you have GB surgery. Wishing you a get well fast. I did get down to a zero, mostly 2s and 4s though. I truly loved being small. Though I was that small I was still curvy and for me I felt I looked good. It all is a matter of personal perception. I wasn't doing that for anyone but me! My health and darnit my happiness. Its okay to want to be thin and attractive. There's not a dang thing wrong with it. As an extremely obese person ( I used to wear size 28 and 4X!! ) I know how it feels to be miserable and not like how I looked or felt physically. I never in my dreams imagined I'd get that small. I thought it was impossible because I was too "big boned" or my loose skin would prevent it. But I was wrong. I agree being smaller was easier to maintain. I stayed in my tiny sizes for almost 2.5 years. I went up so fast my head spinned. It's all good though since I've made the extra effort to get back down again.
  21. Thats really helpful info, thanks. I've asked others and have gotten similar response. If the food is tasty and filling then it is definitely worth the cost.
  22. Well said brittu, I agree the hunger shouldnt have so much to do with gain. I went through a bitter mental battle with myself when I couldn't workout the way I was accustomed to anymore. I froze up and didnt do what I COULD! I have turned a corner now and learning how to retrain my body for alternate workouts. How do you like JC? Its a bit expensive but if its worth it then I might want to go for it.
  23. My thoughts are this: Nothing will tell more than one person or both having WLS whether or not the relationship started with the best intentions or otherwise. The truth will come out because having WLS and being SUCCESSFUL forces us to live our lives respecting the truth. Otherwise you are continuing to live in denial. Everything has to flow right or it will hinder our progress both mentally which flows into physically. My relationship with my husband has survived and along our path I realized that I loved him unconditionally and he does the same. We needed to find out the hard way though. We are going on 19 years now. Good luck! And Congrats on the many years! That's a rare find these days.
  24. I think this is the most important episode for anyone looking into having WLS or for anyone who has already had it. WLS is NOT a magic solution. I've noticed many of the showcases on this show start out thinking that, then they get smacked upside the head with reality. Some face the demons and straighten it out - while others, like last night's Penny contain their pacifiers. Living with a co-dependent person such as herself and her husband is a detriment to truly beating any addiction. Whether it be drugs, alcohol or in this case food. IMHO, anyone who has become obese has some element of food addiction. How can they not? Until everyone in that position embraces this fact, they will always fall off the wagon (including myself). She was playing his love for her against him, and he fell for it hook, line and sinker. He likes the life they're living, based on some of his commentary on the show. He expressed that he hoped she didn't expect all of them to eat on a diet. He is complete denial too. I was in awe at how much! I couldn't believe the excuses coming out of both of their mouths. They truly do live in a "fantasy world". Someone on my FB mentioned that she revised to RnY. If that's true then she's getting a second chance and I pray she gets it right this time. However, it's not likely because she thinks all of her troubles will be over by fixing her stomach. It's really our brains we need to work on simultaneously.
