Generally when you went in for the operation, you gained weight because they filled your body with fluids. You have to lose those first before you begin to see the scales move. You body is in a major heal mode at the moment. It will take a few weeks of being on the mend and then the numbers will begin to drop.
The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.
Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.
Some people find it difficult to meet their daily protein and fluid goals the first couple weeks because their body is in a heal mode. Just keep working on it and you should get there.

Hi I had the same questions right after my surgery, I had my bypass surgery on 8/11/16 and gained 5 pounds of air in the hospital. Today is my 8 day check up and im down 17lbs. Remember this isn't a magic surgery the weight will start to come off just follow the diet phases and get up and start moving ASAP. I was up walking the halls 2 hours after they woke me up, start walking and moving around your healing will happen much faster. Its been any easy recovery so far so good luck im here if you have any questions.
    Jessica.

Hi! So I had gastric bypass 8/15. I know it has only been 4 days, I'm just curious when I can expect to start losing.

I had surgery on the 7/11 and was supposed to have my post op on 7/19 but didn't make it cuz I ended up back in hospital.. But long story short I had it today so a little over two weeks.. But I'm down 27lbs.. I notice it in my legs and arms and face but barely in my stomach area even tho I notice it in the way my clothes fit.. Regardless I'm so happy I made the right decision!! Thanks everyone on here for helping me with my journey along the way!!

I am so glad to see I'm not the only one. I had to have my band taken out this past Thursday because it wasn't sitting right. I have lost 76 pounds since I got it put it in a year ago and am scared to death to gain the weight back. I really really hope to get the sleeve done.

I was banded October 10, 2013. I am down 61 pounds and have 41 more pounds until I reach my goal weight. I am very happy how far I have come but 41 pounds seems so far away. I don't eat very much but when I do I don't make the best choices. Does any one have any tips/ advice/ suggestions? For instance for Breakfast I drink a Protein Shake but I find myself hungry not long after. But at the same time, I can't eat solid foods that early. And exercise. ... ughhhh.. I can not seem to get motivated to exercise! I know that would make a huge difference. Any suggestions on that? Help! :-) thank you for taking the time to read this.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far ! You look great ! As far as ideas, I finally gave up on the A.M. protien shakes. They did'nt keep me full for long, then I would need to eat something, so the protien shakes were just added calories. Instead, I found that if I have a cup of hot tea (I dislike coffee), that opens my band to some foods. I can' t do typical breakfast foods, so I experimented and found some heathy foods that do work or me. Texture made all the difference. Belvita Breakfast Biscuit s, turkey jerkey, cheese stick, trail mix , etc all work for me. Later on my AM break, a cup of Swiss Miss cocoa and a few Wheat Thins w/ pb. As far as exercise, try something you've never done before ! You may find a new healthy hobby ! Bike riding, swimming, rock climbing, Zumba etc ! You dont have to do them permanently, just TRY them !! Good luck !

First, let me congratulate you on the 61 pounds lost! Excellent!
What works for me regarding exercise...
Fit bit is a great motivator. Give yourself goals in the amount of steps and stairs you want to do everyday. Work up to that 10 thousand min per day, and then every couple of days, push yourself a little more. In bad weather, I head for the indoor mall, I'm busy looking at everything, and forget I'm exercising. Park your car at the farther point of every parking lot, it becomes a game as to how much you can get in. Dust off that old bike, or treat yourself and spend some lovely evenings touring your neighborhood after work. Turn on some music and dance like no ones watching! Have fun with moving! You will be surprised that pushing yourself just a little harder, may kick start the results you want...

I have a fitbit as well, unfortunately I'm not allowed to wear it at work so it hasn't been getting much use as of the last month and a half.

Congrats on the 61 lbs!!! I was banded on Oct 4th, 2013 and I am down 50lbs. I am just like you by not being able to eat breakfast, and choosing foods that aren't the healthiest for me. I don't eat much and I am also not motivated to exercise after working 12 hrs at my job. We need to find a way to motivate each other then!! Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.
