In my profession, we rely on billing people's health insurance for services.....
The word going around the last few days is that 50% of all Americans will loose their present health insurance coverage within the upcoming year......the number can go as high as 80%
Primary reason is that the Federal Government has mandated that all Insurance companies must meet new federal mandates,,,,financially, the Insurance companies cannot meet all these mandate and stay in business....without raising premiums way through the roof....they will simply stop underwriting policies leaving people with no option other than sign up for the federal program...
What bothers me is that when all this was being debated, people were told they would be able to keep their present Dr.'s and Insurance policies....unless congress makes some changes, that is not going to happen.....

I have been looking for a Forum to discuss questions about Lap band because I always feel bad calling or emailing the Dr for simple questions. Anyways on to my story.
I am a 29 y/o father of 2 boys. I have been trying to lose weight for years and I have success but nothing that stuck. I started reviewing my other options outside of a diet. I needed something more permanent that I couldn't just stop. I found lap band surgery as an option but didn't know if I should follow through...Well on vacation my mind was made up for me when I was unable to enjoy something with my boys. It kind of hit home and my mind was made up for me. I then proceeded with the surgery.
I am now 5 weeks after surgery feeling great and down 54 lbs and 3 pants sizes. I am blessed to be having so much success so far but i know it is just the beginning. Looking forward to reading up on others success as well as struggles as I know I will experience my own.

amsaw - it's really important that you don't get caught up in comparing your progress with anyone else's. We are all SO different, and if you stick to the rules of the band, and follow your program, you will lose weight.
It is true that weight comes off faster in the beginning. But please keep in mind that your first month is for healing. Some people don't lose a lot during that time. Others, do. Just be diligent in following your doctor's orders regarding the post-op diet & exercise, and you will do great! All that being said, typical "healthy" weight loss with the band, is one to two pounds per week. In the beginning it might be more, but once things settle down, 1-2 pounds is a realistic expectation, and a healthy rate of loss.
When I started out, I was losing about 3 pounds per week. Now, about 1. For me, I'm happy as long as the scale is going in the other direction

I can't stand any of the ready made brands...I make my own with the ingredients I choose to make it delicious and enjoyable...
It's 4am, and I'm having my Breakfast drink right now before I head out to the gym....made from fresh Mango, Orange, banana and apple...blended with whey and soy milk...about 30-35 grams of protein....not to mention the Vitamins A, C, E and potassium...
Have no idea of calories, I stopped obsessing about them....

You are doing quite well actually. to lose 13 lbs this quick after surgery is good. but yes feeling hungry is part of it. liquids and mushy foods just doesnt stick with you long. just try and remember your diet knowledge. low fat, low sugar, low carbs, low calories to get you through until you start getting some restriction with fills. good luck

NaNa, on my friends page was nice enough to post a article on the success of the band from the creator (surgeon) of the lap band. I thank you NaNa and of course everyone else for giving me hope and support with the band. Pre op or Post op. I feel like we're all family in distance, but close because we are sharing the same bond (Band). Anyway, the article is helpful, its given me a better understanding on the success of the band. Once you apply those tools...sky's the limit. Thanks everyone!!! Muah!!!

terrydumont46 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Stuck? Slip?
Actually, it's the same definition for everyone.
Slip is a band slip, which means it's ripped it's stitches and moved out of place around the stomach. There are different degrees of slips, some very minor and easily fixed just by going on liquids and some severe requiring band removal or replacement. The main causes of slips are bands too tight, vomiting and over eating.
Stuck is when food gets stuck above the band and can't pass as it should. Usually, it's pretty brief but sometimes it can last awhile and even require doctor intervention. If you're stuck bad enough, you may even PB (productive burp) the food back up. The main causes of getting stuck are not chewing enough, not taking small enough bites, not pausing between bites, or even a band too tight.
    Hope that helps!

There are very few people who know I have a lap band. Today, after church, myself and a group of friends went out to eat. My 8 year old daughter was ravenous, and in the process of shoveling her food down, apparently something got stuck. Someone asked her if she was okay. She replied, LOUDLY, "Something is stuck in the port of my lap band, that's all!" Wasn't expecting that one...I laughed way too loud and changed the subject very quickly!

terrydumont46 reacted to ChicagoRose in Gained 2 lbs on Mushies
You really should follow the protocol even if you are feeling frustrated. Most of the Lap Band complications are due to people not following the directions. In my oppinion, two pounds isn't really a "gain" but more of a notice to try and have less salt, carbs, etc. Also, even though you are eating all those healthy things, could be the calories are adding up so be sure to keep track, I use myfitnesspal.com
Be kind to yourself, our bodies fluctuate. After a rough day I see the scale and have to remind myself that no it's not possible to really have gained weight in less than a day, it's just my body reacting to what i ate.
    Good luck =)

i don't weigh myself at home at all anymore. it is my downfall. if there is a gain i will starve myself for the day if i lose i let my brain tell me it's okay to eat. and i can't seem to stop that voice in my head. just like your voice is telling you that mushies are making you gain weight so you want solid food. our brain is such a powerful ally or it is a powerful foe. try not to listen to it unless it is being a positive voice.
