PS I explained the liquids only on hiatal hernia surgery...that you have to shrink your organs so they can get in more easily (true) and the special diet is doctor's orders (true also!!).

Once you tell, you cannot untell. How supportive is your coworker? Will she blab to everyone in the office? if she does that, how comfortable are you with it? Will she resent you for "changing" your routine with her? She'll notice that you're eating differently, that's for sure. If you don't tell the truth, you'll have to lie about things. Will she give you grief about it and judge you for it? Only you can guess that.
I chose NOT to tell, and I'm glad I did. People at my job are super gossipy and judgy and would probably accuse me of "taking the easy way out". Instead, they cheer me on. I just tell them that I'm on a low carb diet (true) and that I run (true too).
This is the first big secret I have ever kept to myself. I kinda feel proud because it's part of me taking back control of my life.

I told my daughters, one of which was with me during and after. I didn't tell my mom. She's too self-absorbed. Dad doesn't need to know @ 87yo, why bother?
At work, I think some people know. I discussed it with 1 co-worker who was banded, on the QT, though I don't know just how QT it's really been. With so many other surgeries, I was out of work for extended periods & the last time I returned I was "tiny" (their words). One woman who really doesn't like me, & I don't like her- asked me, "I HAVE to ask: HOW did you do it?" I told her every time I wanted to eat something I shouldn't, "I pictured your face and lost my appetite." OK, not-so nice but she was just being nosey & wanted something to gossip/ tear me down over. None of her business, IMO.
Not too many others know. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed about it. Early on, I did do a presentation of before/after and what I did, to a group of WL patients and patients in waiting. I don't mind helping others through my experience. I tend to keep my personal info close to the breast, in general. That's just me.

I work in a VERY gossipy workplace. I chose not to tell anyone at work, not even my best friend. I told my family, and 2 friends. That's it. Nobody needs to know my business. They all know I am working toward being healthier, but no one needs to know details.

I don't eat bread anymore and I really don't miss it. Pasta and rice too. I can get them down, but I'd prefer not to get stuck, and that healthy fear keeps me away from them.

Having a trainer and group exercise classes have really helped me. Left on my own, I exercise once a week at best. With my trainer, we have a standing appointment that I must show up for. Recognizing what I cannot do on my own and still expect results had made a difference.

Several of us were stalled so we tried the 5:2 or 4:3 interval fasting diet. Justwatch started this thread. Come join us:

Well one day of low calories and NO junk of any kind including any fried food, and my band is tighter this morning. I was formerly able to eat canned chicken with a tablespoon of mayo. Today only a third of the can. That's okay. Good actually. If I get hungry later I have Protein Shakes and almonds at my desk. I was looking longingly at those almonds yesterday. Lol

Pre-op diet started 8/22, surgery was on 9/5. Since 8/22 I am down 35lbs. An average of 5lbs a week is great and I am feeling awesome!

Tell fewer people than you feel you want to. You may tell more later. Can't undo it. And people blab. I did not want opinions tossed my way.

Once I went on the liquid diet, it helped a LOT. I saw immediate success and it helped convince me to take better care of myself. Hopefully you can feel the same success.

Debbie, I was never not going to go to a doctor. I was just trying to figure out who to go to. I didn't want to waste time and money going somewhere that couldn't help me. I was scared and shocked that my surgeon had just disappeared. I was on this site while I was also trying to find somewhere to go. I am so glad there were people here who would respond to me while I was waiting to get help.

I still get tender a little, but the doc said not to worry, it's minor. I do notice that I am sore after I do ab workouts too.
PS I ran my first 5k (ALL the way running!!) in Sept. I love Couch to 5k for getting me started! Woooo

It definitely is not. I've met quite a lot of people that assume lap band is as easy as getting it done and then you'll magically lose a ton of weight with putting no real effort into it.
By completely changing up my eating habits I have managed to lose 152 pounds over the last two years, and I'm 120 from my actual goal weight. A lot lost, a lot more to go. But I'll get there. I'm doing everything I can be doing to reach it.
Highest was 445-450, current is 293. Best thing I've ever done to help me get my weight back into control, for sure.

He said really anything. Getting something stuck, vomiting too many times etc. I was also reading about it and it said NSAIDs put you at a greater risk for esophagitis. Well, I've been taking aleve every day for foot pain.
New fun thing this morning! Pooped my pants while driving to work! Ugh. Guessing it's from everything my GI track has been through lately or I really did pick up a bug. Idk, but I'm home on the couch and probably will stay here today!
