LadyBandit....I so feel and understand where you are coming from!
I did great "in the beginning"...just as you say. GungHO, exercising, eating what I was supposed to, etc, etc....then the Honeymoon ended! I too, thought I could just eat anything I wanted, quit exercising, and let the band do it all.....Unfortunately, my band had come unbuckled/unsnapped....Kinda like you describe....NOT at correct restriction. ( NO restriction )
I was eating too much, GAINING weight, just like every other diet I had been on in my life! Because it was JUST A DIET... I was so embarrassed, didn't go to my surgeon for a YEAR. Couldn't face the reality I was gonna fail at this too...
But I had a friend who had the band encourage me to go back to my surgeon, and find out why I was eating too much. Why was it just like before I even had surgery! My doctor started using Fluoroscopy for all adjustments during my hiatus....we immediately realized why and he corrected it asap! Now...with a properly adjusted band for me, I couldn't be happier with my decision to have this surgery.
Please continue following up with your surgeon...and don't accept any excuses! This thing will do what it is advertised to do....Control/limit your portions...you just gotta get there. I wish you much success in your future! Never, ever give up.

Well good for you for reconizing the problem and getting back on track ! Way to go !! Take it 1 day , one meal at a time, not the whole picture , ok ? As far as Christmas and moms cooking, just remind yourself that you will always have food in your world, there will always be chocolate in your life , and you are not going to be hungry if you eat your protien first, fruits and veggies 2nd, etc. I had my lap band 2 weeks before Christmas 2011, and just tried to focus on the family and fun, not the food ! Good luck !!

I was banded January 2012 and everything was going great. I was down 50 pounds. Then something happened, I just quit, I stopped going to get fills, I stopped exercising like I was. I thought that the band would continue to do what it was supposed to do without me doing my part. Fast forward to present. I have gained 40 pounds back. BOOHISSBOOOOO... So, I went in for a fill today, it has been since around April since I went, and even then she didn't give me a fill because she thought I had enough even though I was telling her that I was still hungry soon after I ate. My band was ok, no issues, no slippage. So, I tried the whole 2 Protein Shakes and 1 meal thing that she told me to do, and my gracious, I was starving, because I didn't have any restriction which caused me to just eat whatever was in sight.
    Its embarrassing!
So today at my visit we did a x-ray and barium and she seen how quickly the Fluid went through so now, I'm at 7.8cc in a 14cc band and on liquids x2days and soft Proteins on day 3 and the back on track for a month..(HOW AM I GOING TO GET THROUGH CHRISTMAS WITH THE food MY MOM IS GOING TO COOK FOR THE FAMILY?...OH I NEED WILL POWER)
I kind of feel like I felt after the surgery minus the pain. A new start. I need all the support I possibly can get from people who actually understand. The few people who knows I have the band are supportive, but I feel like they do not understand and im embarrassed that I haven't lost, but gained back what I did lose.
Thanks for reading my rant and ALL positive comments and suggestions are welcome.

ladybanded got a reaction from n2win in HEALTHY LIFE/STRENGTH TRAINING
Just recently I just started becoming more interested with my weight/strength training of course added with my 45-60 min Interval cardio regimen. I did some research and eventually came up with this for myself. My own personal goal is to NOT become big and bulky but more toned with more muscle. I do understand that some women are afraid of getting bulky, but understand our bodies and chemistry is made completely different from a man, so with that being said, we can train without getting the bulk that you think you would get. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF WEIGHTS. Muscle and fat are not created equal, 5lb of muscle is NOT the same as 5lb of fat. Muscle does not take up the same space as fat. So, if you add in weights, and you dont lose, or possibly gain, ITS OK...you possibly gained muscle and lost fat, which will make you look more slimmer.
Muscle mass and fat are different. Muscle is active tissue that burns calories around the clock even as you sleep, kind of like an engine running in neutral. When you move around, you burn more calories, just like a car will consume more gas the faster you go. Fat, on the other hand, is just a storage of excess energy. It does nothing but sit there with its sole goal in life to be a spare tire around your waist until you put in the effort to burn it off.
So, everyone has to start somewhere. If you have never trained with weights before, you need a routine to get your muscles prepared for more serious training if you choose to do so. It's essential that you complete a full body routine for 12 weeks before starting a split routine.
I have noticed a big difference since doing this. HOPE THIS CAN AND WILL HELP SOMEONE.

Complete the following on two non-consecutive days per week.

Alternate between the two exercise routines. In the first week, you’ll end up doing Workout 1 twice, while in the second week you’ll do workout 2 twice etc.
Do sets and reps as indicated.
Rest 60-90 seconds between the sets.

I agree with you regarding the benefits of weight training. I do nearly no formal cardio exercises anymore, aside from incidental exercising, because I'm in maintenance and am no longer trying to lose weight. I am active, I swim and walk and cycle recreationally but I don't have a cardio 'routine' as such anymore.
I am, however, doing weight training so that I build muscle (not seeking to be muscular, but strong), lower my body fat percentage, increase my metabolism and strengthen my core (which is helpful as we get older and lose our balance more easily). The side effect of that is that I expect to gain a little as I get stronger. And yet at a BMI of 24 and a BFP of 19% now, I'm actually only one clothing size bigger than I was at a BMI of 21 (with a BFP of 22%). So yes I think a holistic view of all of your body composition is important in the long run.

I have had my band since Jan 2012. I lost about 55 pounds, but I gained about 33 pounds of that back. I have been depressed over this. I felt and I felt like a failure. About a week ago, I decided to take my life back (again). What I failed to realize is that this struggle is mostly mental. I was eating full size meals like I was before, hamburgers..tons of slider foods which resulted in me gaining some of the weight back and I stopped working out. Once I was able to identify my problems, mainly being a emotional eater, I decided that I have to have control over my emotions and not let them control me. At this moment, all I can see is the finish line, even though its so far away, I can see it. Everything that I said I cant do, I WILL do. I will not allow this word CANT to control me. Earlier today, I was looking at past pictures of myself before my surgery and a picture of me currently (I posted them on my profile; the after is really the current) and I realized that even though I had that setback, I still made progress, and I now know that I can do this and eventually reach my goal and maintain it. Everything is a lifestyle, with or without the band. We choose to eat what we do, so the choice to eat healthy or unhealthy is totally up to you. Its like a lightbulb went off in my head and I totally get it. If your mental isn't in it, you will potentially fail the band. Its a tool, but ultimately its all in what you choose to put inside your body and let the band control how much you take in. Thanks for reading and Congrats to everyone who has made the choice to live healthy.  :D
