There may be people who will yell at this advice, but when I had a shake that I didn't like and I still had a tub of it left, I added some banana to the blender. It made SUCH a difference. Yes, you're not supposed to have it right away, but it made the difference some days between me getting my Protein in and not. 2 months out now and I don't use shakes any more.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I started on the surgical weight loss journey 2 times before. Unfortunately with the nutritional classes on my program if you miss an appointment then you have to start at number 1 all over again I will complete all of these classes in May. This is a turning point in my life and I'm tired of playing games with myself.

Thank you! I lost more inches than pounds this month, and it's definitely showing in my clothes.

you are doing great! just keep on doing what you are doing. if you're "stuck", you can try to mix things up a bit... try a different workout, eat a little more one day and a little less the other, drink more Water... but there's nothing wrong with the rate you are losing at.

I was disappointed with my slow loss at first as well. I am almost 5 months out and only down 38 pounds since my surgery on Sept. 1. But, I've come to peace with it now. The weight IS coming off. The scale IS moving down. And why do I need to race? I will eventually get where I need to be.
Pre-op and the first month or two post op, I was thinking about this like I'd thought about diets in the past. I wanted to lose weight and get to goal as fast as possible so I could be "done". But with VSG, you are never "done". Your sleeve is for life. So what's the hurry?
Plus there are some big advantages to losing slowly. I don't constantly get asked about my weight loss and have to come up with lies to tell people I'm not comfortable discussing my surgery with. And, since I'm losing weight more slowly, I'm not having to constantly replace clothing only to have to replace it again almost immediately. Also, I think it's less taxing on my skin than if I dropped weight really quickly.

OK, here's one I haven't seen addressed: what's with all this low fat, diety food? ?? I thought maybe it would make more sense after my surgery, but it still doesn't. I'm 4 weeks post op and can only eat about a quarter cup at a time. My nut says 3-4 quarter cup meals a day. How can you possibly gain weight on 1 CUP of food a day, even if you are eating full fat meals???? Better yet, how can you NOT lose weight on one cup of food a day?
Before I started this process, I was actually eating pretty healthy. Healthy fats (avocado, coconut, EVO, even some clarified butter). I avoided simple sugars, grains and dairy; ate mostly meats, eggs, lots of vegies (with fats thank you) and some fruit. Some juicing too, mostly veggies with about 10% fruit to make them palatable. I was still overweight (portions and hormones?), but low bp and cholesterol. Healthy. Since starting this program and especially post surgery, I'm told to eat a TON of dairy (which I don't tolerate well), and lots of chemical laden sugar free fake foods like the Protein Shakes and jellos and puddings and Protein Bars, etc. And told to do low or no fat. Sites like the Bariatric Pal are constantly advocating diet food and low cal recipes.
So I just don't get it. I'm not talking about eating high fat, high calorie food all day long, but I don't see why eating healthy food with moderate fat should be a problem. So you don't lose quite as fast. Wouldn't that be healthier and maybe less issues with sagging skin? I just don't get it.
Input from veterans please...what am I missing?

As of yesterday I am 12 weeks post op. When I came on today to update my ticker I got excited. I noticed I only have 7 more lbs to lose till my weight lost is MORE than my weight to left to lose to get to my goal weight. Just thought that was cool. Now grant it 175 is my first goal weight, but I know my doc wants me a little lower. But one step at a time.
Also on another note......2 more lbs to go till the 240's!!!
Hope everyone has a great day!!!!

I have mixed plain greek nonfat yogurt with just about everything. SF hot chocolate, Protein powders, SF puddings. It'll be fine. Just add a little at a time so you don't overdo it.

i smoke just about every evening, just a little toke or two on my pipe, my equivalent of an after work martini. i don't get the munchies, and i love not having the calories from alcohol. i'm so curious about how i will feel after surgery when i smoke. and for the record, i'm an incredibly productive member of society.
