    Band affecting work

I have been banded about a year, had my 1st fill about a month ago. After the fill I have been having a lot of episodes of slime and getting stuck. I know it takes some getting used to but now it has affected my work. I have been told that it has been noticed when I have to run to the bathroom or a trash can when food comes back up after getting suck and it needs to stop or they will send me home each time it happens. I was told it is gross and unsanitary and I have put myself in this situation. I was made to explain how my body works and why this happens in front of a male supervisor. It was one of the most embarrassing I have even been through. They suggested for me not to eat the 8hrs I am at work, when I said that medically I cant do that, I was told that was my problem. I'm not sure what to do.

    liver function

Thanks everyone. It's going to change the way I use the band also. The liver doc says can only loose 5-10lbs a month. Anymore than 10 will damage my liver more and cause it to swell. I have to find a balance to loose slower. I lost 17lbs this first month. She advised to raise my intake slightly with only low impact exercise such as walking. Overall weight loss will be good, just have to go slow.

    liver function

I was able to get an appointment earlier. It was yesterday. Glad I was able to get in, I'm at stage 3 of 4 of non alcoholic liver cirrhosis. 80-90% of my liver is nonfunctional scar tissue. Nothing they can do but watch it till it falls all they way then transplant list. I'm in the hospital all day today for more tests.

    bummed

I went for my 1st fill appointment on Fri but my surgeon said I didn't need it & I would have to wait. He said that my goal should be 5lbs a month & since I had already lost more than that since my visit 3 weeks ago I couldn't have one. He also said at 5lbs a month, after a year I would be good. That is only 60lbs, I was planning on more like 100 in total. To me 5lbs a month doesn't seem like enough, but I have been known to be impatient lol.

    liver function

They told me they would call if someone canclled sooner but it's been 2 weeks already. Here in St. Louis have called 4 hospitals to get an appointment, 3 booking in Nov, other Oct. I will just have to keep calling to see if someone cancelled or maybe try in Illinois.
  8. I know that many times being overweight and fatty liver disease goes hand in hand; I knew for many years I have had it. But before my surgery a mass was found in my liver. After an MRI they said nothing to worry about. Durring my surgery on 6-26 the surgeon said my liver looked gray with lumps all over it so he took a bysopy. It came back low liver function and irregular cell groth. My doc said I need to see a liver specialist ASAP. Liver GI office says yes you need to be seen ASAP then gives me an appointment November 22nd!! I am freaking out! I know everyone is different and I will have to wait for something concrete but according to my general doc loosing weight can help the liver regenerate & cause the function to go back up. Has anyone had there liver bounce back after weight loss?

    Infected Stitches

I had my surgery on 6-26, and one of mine is infected now. It didn't close with the super glue stitches either. It was soo gross. I am on day 5 of 7 days of Keflex, they also told me to use peroxide whenever I changed my dressing. It looks a lot better and closed but now the first aid take pulled all the skin off around my incision lol so now have to wait for that to heal.

    Can i take metformin????

No I don't, I didn't realize how little I know about the surgery or anything till I read posts on here. I don't know what size band I have, what brand. I don't even know where my port is. I have a lot to talk about at my check up on the 12th. I'm not real happy.

    Can i take metformin????

The program I went through wasn't very "individualized" I guess. I only met with my surgeon once for about 10 min & once with his nurse a month before the surgery but that was a group meeting. At that group meeting with the nurse I asked about taking pills after & she was insistent that there would be no problem taking any kind of pills. My bottle says metformin HCL tabs, they are pretty big ovalish white pills. I test my blood sugar & it has been amazing since the surgery so I am assuming the meds getting in my system.

    Can i take metformin????

I had lap band put in a week ago. I take 1000mg metformin twice a day and I haven't had any problem taking them so far but I haven't had any fills yet. Not sure how it will be after that.
  13. I'm about 5'7, when started pre op diet I was 322, day of surgery I was 302. My surgery was 5 days ago, haven't weighed myself yet but I can see some change. In the recovery room post op, the nurse was calling for someone to take me to my room and I guess she thought I was out of it or asleep. She said to the person on the phone, she had lap band but I don't know why they let her. She doesn't look that big. I was so mad, she has no idea. I wasn't doing it to be skinny, I was doing it to get off high blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, and get my diabetes under control. I am on my way to my goal, I haven't needed any insulin since the day of surgery!!! It makes me cry every time I say that, I am so happy.

Can you help me with these?

I like this website bariatricchoice.com , it has a few different brands. I like the nectar protein too. There is also some clear protein drinks. They taste like fruit juice or lemon aid but have like 15 grams of protein but aren't thick like regular protein drinks. I like the bariwise wild berry.

When can i eat pureed foods?

I only had to do clear liquids for 24 hrs, then full liquids, yogurt, instant potatoes, pudding, and mashed bananas. I am 3 days post op, have eaten very small amount of yogurt, potatoes, and protein shake. I have not had any problems with any of it. Next week I start the caned chicken, fish, caned fruit and veg. I really haven't wanted to eat anything but I get very weak and dizzy if I don't force myself to eat something.
