    Am I Too Tight?!

I have had the same type of problems. I can eat Breakfast and lunch, but throw up dinner many evenings. My gastro did an endoscopy and found some minor irritation, but nothing alarming. He put me on some GERD meds but they have made no difference. i went to my surgeon last month and he did an unfill. No difference. I returned last week and he said it makes no sense so he ordered an upper GI series and the radiologist said it all went down perfectly. I have to go for a follow up with my surgeon still. In the meantime I am not losing any weight. Eating easy slider foods and maintaining a 30lb loss since surgery 5/28/13, but it should be twice that by now. ):

    Disappointed in my friends reactions

I was surprised by the number of people in my office who shared their own WLS story with me when they "heard" I had gotten a lapband (nothing is a secret at work). Everyone has been very supportive and encouraging.

    Losing Very Slowly

My second fill was too restrictive and I spent the summer losing everything but weight (pbing, throwing up), not exercising; finally unfill last month and after a long plateau saw the scale go down a few pounds. But I felt much smaller than what the scale showed. I read someone else's success story here and it inspired me. She got an old size 8 pair of jeans back on. Well, I went to my closet and grabbed a favorite size 18 jeans I haven't be beern able to wear in a few years. In fact I tried to get in them last month with no success. Tonight they zipped up comfortably! Yay me!

    Coffee!!!

I make a protein shake every a.m. with Syntrax Nectar, Cappucino flavor, and then mix it 50-50 with my coffee. It is yummy!
  11. I was not put on a pre-op diet. I stupidly ate everything I thought I could never eat again. We were in NY and I had a corned beef on rye sandwich the day before my surgery. It was the worst thing I could have done. I went to the hospital bloated and stuffed before surgery. After surgery I was constipated for 2-3 days, then I had terrible diarrhea for 2 days. I recommend that you start learning to eat better NOW. Good luck!

    Liver Lesions

yes, i had an incidental finding of a tumor on my liver many years ago. Had a liver biopsy, was told it was a just undeveloped tissue - a hemangioma (?). Got my band 14 years later, not a word mentioned by the surgeon even though I mentioned it in my medical history and I assume he saw it when he did my surgery.

    One month results

You look fabulous! I am so jealous!! What have you been doing to be so successful in so short a period of time? Any clues would be appreciated as I am clueless.

    Tighter Isn't Always Better

Jean, thank you so much for your sage advice. I finally saw my surgeon's partner today and I was surprised when he told me to not get an unfill and stick to clear liquids another 48 hours and then smooth liquids a couple of days, and then finely ground foods - like my post-op diet. He said there's nothing wrong with giving my body time enough to get used to the fill (3cc) and that I needed to stop vomiting to heal. He also felt there was nothing wrong with liquids for another week provided I was getting my fluids, protein, and vitamins (which I am). He said if I'm not comfortable with real food by next week I could come back for the unfill but he would take a whole cc out. I am meeting with the dietician tomorrow. I have a lot to learn about eating/exercising with my band, and I will take a look at some of the links to your books and blog. Thanks!

    Tighter Isn't Always Better

Thank you so much for this article. It explains so much. I had my surgery 5/28/13 with a 1.5c fill. The first month I was able to work my way up to "real food," exercised a couple times a week, and lost 16 lbs. Then I plateaued. At my next appointment the surgeon gave me a small fill (2cc). I felt like I could "eat a steak," and didn't lose a thing. I went back and against his better judgment, I insisted on another fill. Since then (last Thursday) all I can get down are shakes and soups. And, I'm not losing weight. My surgeon is now out of town. Should I contact his on-call partner and get an un-fill? I feel like if I don't I will be eating soft foods until my next appointment mid August and won't be losing weight. And I miss all my summer fruits and veggies!! I feel like a failure...

    Am I missing anything?

The only other things I bought for the first weeks post surgery was sugar free oatmeal and instant grits, to be made thin and runny. My dietation said no spicy anything until after 5 weeks. She said small pieces of fruit in your shakes were ok, but I couldn't tolerate it. You might want to consider biotin too. Not a recommendation from my surgeon or dietation, but many people here and on Youtube swear by it to avoid hair loss, which sounded good to me. I am 7 weeks post op and no hair loss so far. Good luck!

    Tight in morning ?

I got banded 5/28 and surgeon put 1.5cc in at surgery. I felt restriction the first few weeks and lost 15 lbs (yay!). Then I went back to work and started feeling less restriction. I ate lunch out daily and tried to be careful. I didn't gain or lose anything the last 3 weeks. I got my first post surgery fill yesterday. I didn't feel any different. I stuck to liquids and by this afternoon I was STARVING. So, I went back to my surgeon a few hours ago and after some begging he gave me another fill. I forgot to ask how much, but I do feel different now. How do you know when the amount of fill is "right?"

You are all such inspirations. I am terrified of falling off the wagon. But you are all right - if you fall off, just got to get back up and start again. Thanks, everyone!

    PCOS

    What are NSVs?
  23. I was banded on 5/28 and the two largest incisions still hurt quite a bit, but I'm even more concerned that they feel lumpy, like there is a lot of scar tissue there. Is this normal?
