I feel exactly the same way. I'm pretty confident that I'll lose a significant amount during the first year, but worry that when the restriction subsides I'll plump up again.

Had my surgery at 9:45 this morning, woke up in the recovery room around 1pm. He took out my gallbladder to which is why it took so long. I've already walked a few times and have been up to pee three times so the nurses seem happy with that.
Only ice chips so I'm crazy thirsty and the little heart monitor keeps going of which is getting annoying but the nurse listened to my heart with her stethoscope and she said everything was fine. Pain doesn't seem too bad. I went the first 5 hours in my room before I requested any and I've had more a couple times since then. Burping like a mad woman but nothing yet from the other end,v walking will help that I guess.
Gonna try to sleep some more before they come in and wake me up again!

Well I'm sitting in my hospital room writing this with the grogginess of the pain meds but the biggest smile ever! I'm so happy my new journey has began ! Pain and nausea coming out of surgery was HELL! But I burped about 10 times and then continually punched my pain med button! Now that I'm controlling my pain its not so bad and I'm so excited for the rest of my life!!

As crazy as it sounds, I couldn't stop losing weight, I was 17 lbs below goal and started to panic. I was looking gaunt, although, at the time, I didn't "see" it, but everyone around me did. I talked to my dietitian and she instructed me to increase my caloric intake. Add a couple of Snacks a day, or mini meals, something to get in more calories. At that time, I never had more than 800 calories a day. I felt good and struggled to get in the additional ones I needed to put back on a little weight. I managed to gain back ten pounds. I look better, wear 4's, 6's and mediums. I found where I need to be to maintain, 1300 calories and I go between 143.5 (this morning) to 146.5 - I reached goal in six months, I've been maintaining for 2.5 years without any trouble. I still have great restriction and could lose more if I wanted to. It's crazy, but it's nice to feel in control.

In a few hours I will be 3 years post op! WHOO HOO!!!!!!!
I am still lovin my sleevie! It has been an amazing journey. It was really tough at first but here I am 3 years out and SOOOO HAPPY.
Here are a few pics from a few days ago in a Macy's changing room where I was looking for a dress to wear for a wedding in December (size 6 dress and NO Spanx, however I will be wearing them at the wedding LOL) to pics from a few weeks ago (wearing all white jrs. dress, say what??? ...and a few before pics for those who don't know me.
I also included a picture from the day I actually tried on my wedding dress in July 2011 and IT FIT!!!! That was a personal goal I really wanted to reach and I DID IT!!!!! WHOOT!
My highest weight recorded was 234 and a tiiiiight 18W (I refused to buy any bigger)...my lowest weight post op was 144 and actually was wearing a few 4's. Today I'm 155 and STILL WEARING clothes from May 2011 when I reached my normal BMI goal weight of 150 (6-8's). Not bad for this nearly 46 year old!
I'M SOOOO GRATEFUL TO GOD for my sleeve! And I'm SOOO THANKFUL for all of you who have supported me during this journey. A special shout out to my southern CA VST family! Thank you for always being there for me, your support has truly helped me through it all!!!
    HUGS!

My insurance company, CIGNA, requires a 3 month physician monitored diet. My surgeon told me they handle that with 3 months with their nutritionist. . Hopefully my insurance co is ok with that.
Just went to my first appointment with nut and she just gave me some guidelines and no real diet. Didn't learn anything new ...

I'm thankful that we have so many nurses in here. If this were not the best WLS procedure, the nurses would know that. Being pre-op, it's reassuring that I've chosen the right path.

Andrew0929 reacted to Butterthebean in Surprisingly easy to gain weight..!
Fiddle...I'm in the camp that calories in vs. calories out is only half the story. It DOES matter what types of foods you eat, and I'm not just talking about sweets. There isn't much difference between a twinkie and mashed potatoes once you eat them. The insulin response is still the same. And in some people it's vastly different than others. If you're insulin resistant, eating high GI foods will increase the insulin response which among other things, prohibits fat burning and encourages fat storage. So 100 calories of potato has a totally different effect than 100 calories of turkey on weight and body composition. And the more insulin resistant you are, the more profound the difference.
Additionally, I have a healthy skepticism about TDEE calculators. Most of them do not consider the fact that a person may have lost 100 pounds or more which does have a profound affect on metabolism. Unless you are a heavy exerciser...especially resistance training, it can change the caloric requirements drastically.
Then there is the whole theory of setpoints. Whether you believe in those or not...not sure I do....but the body may indeed be looking for a point of homeostasis and fight to get there. And that point may be a few pounds above where you want it to be. And let's face it, everyone here has a body that likes to hold onto weight...otherwise we wouldn't be here right?
    Alright...end of thread hijack.
