Hey! First of all congrats on the weight loss so far! I would think that going back on "normal foods" and working out would slow the weight loss process. You are building muscle and giving your body more nutrition. I am at the end of my first week post op and dropped about 10 lbs! However, I know it is mostly because I am on Clear liquids only and there is a possibility I may go up a little as I incorporate food into my diet again.
It's a difficult journey but just keep doing what you are supposed to do (diet/exercise) and the weight will come off I am sure! We can't let the little set-backs disappoint us too much because that is when you fall off the wagon.
    Good luck!

How about something at the spa like a manicure or hair style? You could also go to the movies or something, take your own healthy Snacks in your purse. It's sad but we always Celebrate with food! Whether we go out to eat or have a family gathering. I'm newly banded so I have not considered how to Celebrate. I think I will do it by buying a new outfit for my new body! (money permitting lol)

Oh I love rewards! Especially for doing things that are healthy for me! Like CG I feel that the biggest reward for me is actually in the "doing" of it. Keeping a good consistency for me is a big reward, as often things try to pull me away from and out of my groove.
When my husband and I first started our journey I bought us a couple of fitbits to help us track our mobility and movements and give us more motivation to keep moving more and more. It was a tough start but after a while it became a fun way for the two of us who are not together most of the day to keep up and out walk each other.
It was motivation for me to get more steps in during the day since I sit a lot at my desk for work. After we lost about 50 pounds we switched from the fitbit one to the fitbit flex that we could wear on the wrist. (I toggle back and forth since I like the fact that I can hide the fitbit one in my bra and wear my jewelry some days )
Each milestone we hit we try to reward each other and keep each other motivated. Sometimes we will have a movie night, or for me a nice "do nothing!" night is always welcome.
For myself when I hit a large milestone....I'll admit it, I'm a BIG jewelry lover. So I bought a Bracelet and for every milestone I buy another charm to add to it and I wear it proudly!!

My doctor actually gave us a liquid antacid (the white milky like stuff) and I'm not even a week out yet. It actually works pretty good with the gas. Keep working on those farts though because that's nothing but RELIEF!

I want everyone that post a complaint or needs advice to remember this. The first thing you do is call your doctor. And than write us and ask our opinion. i made a mistake by not telling someone to call their doctor and it turned out to be something. Thank goodness it wasn't anything serious, i have always added call your doctor but this time i just forgot to write it. so i am saying it now. always call your bariatric surgeon or your primary care doctor if you have a concern. they are the best to answer questions. now if their advice is crappy we might tell you that and to get a new doctor but always always contact your doctor. i don't ever want to be responsible for your condition to be more unbearable than it is. okay i'm done. have a good life.

I have said this for four years and time and time again people would rather play with their lives and post here then contact their surgeons. I have my surgeons cell phone number and can call him 24 hours a day if needed. I have not had any issues in 4 years but you never know. I would never ask anyone here about pain of any sort, chest pain, shortness of breath, unable to eat or drink heck no. Those questions should be for your doctors then tell us the outcome.

You can definitely get back on track. I am sure that fifty percent of people who have weight loss surgery after time want to give up. You want to eat that cake or pizza or sweets or salty. I have issues with sugar and will binge like crazy if I have just one bite. I have no control so I stay away from it. You can do this. You came this far to not go back to where you began. Get motivated and think how much better you felt at your lowest weight.

Okay dumb question... what is PBing and sliming? It sounds like it has to do with getting the food stuck due to not chewing enough. What is the other?

I agree, take this time to train yourself using smaller plates, eating utensils and portions. while I was on the 6 month plan, I started using dessert size plates and the smaller forks. when you use a smaller plate, you don't feel like you are being cheated
out of food as the smaller plate is filled. Best wishes. Karen..aka.kll724

BillieG reacted to Leepers in Can't burp! Is this normal?
I TOTALLY felt that way after surgery. I felt like I wanted to let out one big ginormous burp but couldn't. That feeling lasted a couple of weeks. Now, a month later I still don't have big burps like I used to . I have little burps when I'm eating.
I felt like the band changed the whole pressure system inside my esophagus. It probably did. Now the gas from your stomach can't escape upward through the smaller hole. Also, I haven't had any carbonation or been eating like crap to cause big burps.
    That uncomfortable feeling will pass.

I see that you have lost 23 lbs, tho' You might gain a little after coming off liquid diet and then starting the gym. You are building muscles if you are working out that much. don't get discouraged! Back away from teh scale for awhile. You might start seeing NSV'S( those are non-scale victories). Are your clothes fitting better? are you able to bend over to tie your shoes? etc. Karen..aka..kll724

seems to me you are doing everything right and it saddens me to read you concerned about what you are doing wrong? are you doing something wrong? to gain a true pound, you must eat 3500 calories (and not burn it off). did you do that? nope, not by what you wrote.....focus on inches coming off as that is a sign of truel/actual weight LOSS and making yourself healthier and def dont judge yourself so harshly by the scale as it goes up and down all day long....

This is a very common time to feel a bit of discouragement. I noticed it when I read so many posts while waiting to get banded and I filed it away -- people have a dip a couple of months out. Still that knowledge didn't keep me from experiencing it myself. I think it has to do with all that excitement at the thought of getting banded, the tremendous lead-up to that, all the courage and determination then the act itself. Afterwards there's so much to learn and then of course we had the holidays -- all the hoopla wears off about now (eight weeks out) and that's when the blues can come along. The band is installed, initial weight from pre-op diets in some cases and the post-op loss has taken place but then the scale isn't moving much and the hunger is still there. This is where the fills come in. Until the Lapband is adjusted properly it isn't really doing anything (unless the band was primed, etc.). I rode on the tightness of my band post-surgery but then when I was all healed up and the appetite returned I was worried. Even though I knew all this already from those who went before me. Why isn't it working? Am I going to have to DIET!? What if I can't do it? All those thoughts. Now I have had fills and I'm feeling good again. I know the band is working and there is that relief. The appetite is dimmed and I feel in control and happy. This is why followup care is so very important with the band. Good luck to you and keep reaching out. We are all in this together and it's going to be fine. More than fine!

Well I have one more day and I move up to full liquids.
Mostly this week hasn't been too bad. I have not been starving like I thought I would be and having a difficult time getting all my liquids in because I constantly feel extremely bloated! I have walked around the house trying to get the gas out of my stomach with little success. The pain isn't unbearable but took a few days before I could lay on my side. The heating pad is my SAVIOR and I lay it on my tummy while in bed.
For those of you who may be hypoglycemic (like me) I got permission to sip apple juice regular strength and I also kept some hard tack candy available to suck on in emergencies. Otherwise, its been fine! I prefer the beef broth (in taste and satisfaction) and the no sugar added fruit bar popsicles. Tomorrow is my 7th day on Clear Liquids and I am down 9.3 lbs since surgery! (wow)
This medication makes me a bit light headed so I am trying to stretch the times I take it, but it is necessary or I feel pain in my lower back or some burning in my stomach. I went to the grocery store this evening to stock up on supplies for the upcoming week and was suffering BIG TIME. I guess it was too much too soon.
Going to lay down now - will continue with week two of this journey!
