Hello. I'm one of those people that tells everything they know. I even told the lady at the pool store when she noticed I lost weight. I may regret being so open down the road but I hope it keeps me accountable. I don't want to have to tell everyone why I'm not losing. This site is great. I'm 12 days postop and have learned something new and helpful every day. Good luck!
So happy for you! But I have to say, since this victory actually involves a scale I'm not sure it can be qualified as a "non-scale" victory. It's literally a "scale" victory :-) Lol!
Hi Lapband Talk Family, on August 8, 2012 I had Lapland surgery weighing in at 245 (5'6 and size 18/20) and I met my Weightloss goal on Thursday August 1 weighting in at 144 lbs (size 4/6). My goal weight was 145. Please check out my transformation, and thanks to everyone that encouraged me along this journey. 9 more lbs to lose to live in my maintenance range o 135 - 145. Loving my Lapband, what an awesome tool! Update: I'm now at 132 lbs and I'm wearing a size 0/2. I'm loving my Lapband!
I started my preop diet seven months ago today, was banded on January 14th, and as of this morning, I am down 78 lbs. with 39 or so to go. I will admit that I entered into this banded life kicking and screaming. I had no choice as my arthritis is so bad I need a knee replacement and there wasn't a doctor in the world who would do it at the weight I was a year ago...267 lbs. On my size frame, that's a bad bad situation.
All I can say today is that I'm so glad I had this done. My weight loss has been so good that I will be able to have the surgery six months earlier than my doctor expected. The additional weight loss I'm hoping to have is just gravy compared to the real goal here, which is to have the knee replacement so I can be more mobile again and get my friggin' life back.
I'm on the cusp of this new aspect of my life and I am grateful the lapband is working for me and grateful to all who post and offer support and information on this site. As I've said before, you have all helped me to be successful and I thank you.
I was banded on July 5th and I'm feeling amazing! I was weighing myself everyday but my husband made me stop. Lol
I just hope the loss keeps getting bigger and bigger. I working out everyday for 45-60 mins. I walk and do the elliptical machine !
Pre-op: 319.0
Day of surgery: 305.8
Current : 289
No matter what, you did this for your health - we all did. My hubby has good days and bad, but it is really up to us to be strong in our resolve. I was banded in February and each day brings a new challenge, but I am successfully beating every one. WE CAN do this.
You are worth it! Not just because you'll be losing weight but you'll be healthier in the process! Now your hubby can't grieve because you'll be healthier can he? Hang in there and it's for you, not anyone else but you! Sometimes we have to be a little selfish if it's for the improvement of our health! Here's to healthy living!
I clicked "like" because you have just realized this is real! You are lucky to have the band and are on your journey. Its sounds like you feel like you are pedaling uphill in the wind. I'm sorry you have a @#@# for a hubby, and it sounds like your momma is also sorry, and is overcompensating for him. Try to relax, keep your mind busy, and look forward to meeting your first goal. Also, remember all this crap I'm telling you, so you can repeat it back to me in a few weeks when I'm in your shoes. Soon you are goingvto srart feeling better than ever before, I'd like to say your clothes will fit better, but actually you will have to donate them and buy pretty new stuff. You are going to look and feel so much healthier! I bet you will even look forward to exercising! I live in sugarland and would love to meet up sometime. hang in there sweetie. .... good stuff just around the corner. Dont rush on the food though, you need to heal properly. Take care.
One more thing before this topic expires.... I adked my pc if he has seen patient because of band complications. He said, "oh, yes!" I then asked it the problems were due to non-compliance and he said no! He said that I woild be far more likely to die of heart disease, hypertension, or my type 2diabetes, then from the lapband. He therefore supports my decision to get lapband.
I was banded almost 6 months ago, 1/18/13, and have just reached 70lbs this week (including pre-op). I'm a little nervous about posting because I hate that this site is public, but I LOVE looking at progress & success pictures (kind of the same thing) and get really inspired by everyone on this site. My life is so much better, just being regular obese rather than super morbidly obese, I am so much healthier and happier than I used to be. My biggest achievement so far is my resting heart rate. At over 330lbs (my highest known weight) my resting heart rate was in the low 100s (super scary). Now, my resting heart rate is in the high 50s to low 60s - like an athlete!! I almost feel like one, too.
Thank you to all of you who share on this site and put it all out there so we don't all feel alone.
Someone shared this email with me. I haven't tried any of them yet as I still have about a month and half before finishing my 6 month hurdle.
I thought they might help someone. Long... I know!!

HI Rw. My surgery date was June 14th and progress was good. However, once the swelling goes down you can go back to your regular eating habits because you don't have any Fluid in your band. I been making healthy choices and I have gain back 7 lbs but my advocate says that's normal not to worry once I get my fill the weight loss will resume as it did after surgery she said also to make sure I keep my appointment for my fills because that is going to be the corner stone of my success. I go tomorrow for my fill and I can wait! ! ! !
Was hanging out with my (skinny) friend, looking in shops and whatnot. Ended up in Target with which I have a love/hate relationship. Their prices can be great but their sizing sucks. So, a short sleeved cardigan caught my eye. I handed my purse to my friend and said "I'm going to try this on but I know it won't fit." after all, it was a Large and I barely fit in XXL in that store. Well, imagine my shock when it slipped right on and fit comfortably even with my shirt underneath.
Goes to show that when you aren't feeling like you're doing so great, you can be presently surprised!
@ RWSample I was given Soup sugar free Jello pudding, Protein Shakes twice a day and crystal lite for preop diet. The shakes replaced two meals so in reality I was only eating once a day and was on this diet for 2wks. Fourth of July I thought I was going to just die because I couldn't have bbq with my family (lol) but I just kept thinking my reward is going to be great in the end. Postop diet has been only clear broth and jello and Clear Liquids for 1wk so I progress to scrambled eggs, baked/mashed potatoes, (soft foods) on Monday and I'm so glad because I'm sick to death of soup!! I have started walking the track with my daughters 3X's a week and soon as my incisions heal I will be joining a gym. Your gonna be just fine, ONE DAY AT A TIME. :-)
Hi there, no I am not in Sugarland I am on the NE side of Houston. I drove the third day. I am lucky because im a teacher and have the summer off. I hear everyone say just listen to your body. I am a hard head and cant be down long but if you feel up to it and don't have to do a lot of walking and heaving lifting or on your feet for long periods of time do what you need to do . You know what I mean
Got banded on Friday July 5! I actually have a gym at my complex that I use. But after 6 weeks of full healing and release from my doctor then I am getting a personal trainer . By then I would have had my fill and will b good to go . I know where Dynamic is. Was thinking of this boxing gym on Hwy 6 . Or LA fitness...
After your last appt with true results , your surgeon office will call to set up your pre op appt. who is doing your surgery ? Dr. Reilly did mine. He's amazing !
Thanks y'all! I think I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can get just maybe .2cc taken out. I don't think I can get used to this feeling and definitely have no desire to get dehydrated! I would rather take it slow than go from able to eat to vomiting all the time!!
Condolences on the loss of your mother. My understanding of the weight loss part of the process is not so much to lose weight as it is to document trying to lose weight. I think it's the one weight loss attempt where actual weight loss is not necessarily the goal. Having said that, I'd still check with your doctor. I just know that in my case, the insurance company just needed documentation from my PCP that I attempted weight loss under a doctor's care....and not that I had to be successful at it. And I wasn't. I stayed the same weight for the three months I was documented. Just as an FYI, the success came after banding. 71 lbs. down in 6 1/2 months...45 to go.
Take care.
