The printed word can sometimes be misunderstood because, unlike when we talk in person, you can't hear the 'tone' of the words. You can't tell if someone is being funny, sarcastic, angry, or happy. Some people don't have the vocabulary to say what they really mean and use words or phrases that mean something else entirely, completely unintentionally. We have to be understanding and overlook these types of things that may be purely innocent.
Some people 'tell it like it is', or think they do. What it really is, is an opinion. Opinions are just that - opinions. It's what a person thinks and it isn't always (maybe even RARELY) based on fact. Opinions are just one person's perception of a thing. Sometimes the person who 'tells it like it is' can make you see something in a way you didn't consider before. It can be a good thing.
And then there are 'trolls'. These are people who like to stir up trouble by deliberately making comments that offend or anger others. Then they sit back and watch the sparks fly. One board that I belonged to was almost destroyed by 'trolls' making offensive comments in a 'hit and run' fashion. The best defense against 'trolls' is to ignore them. They want a reaction - don't give them one.
A lot of people here genuinely want to help by sharing their experiences, offering encouragement, and celebrating successes (their own and yours). At times we seek advice and sometimes sympathy from others who have already gone through things that we find bewildering. It's comforting to know things will improve and get tips to cope with our problems.
What all of the above have in common is that they are all comments made by people we have never met and likely never will. Whether positive or negative, you are the one who chooses what to read and when/if to respond. Just ignore what you don't like and enjoy the rest. You don't need to abandon the whole board. There is WAY more positive here than negative! :-)

That's nice Harley, I will be getting the two step procedure. It may take that long to take out the band but I hope not. I can wait a couple of months for my tummy to heal. Good Luck!

Harleychic13 reacted to B is starting the journey in Glad to find this site. Newbie surgery in two weeks!
Hello everyone. I am glad to have found this site. I am scheduled for a RNY in about 2 weeks. I go for my preop visit one week from today. I have had a weight problem all my life. My first diet was my mother bringing me to Weight Watchers at age 8. I am so tired of this battle and how I feel that I have allowed many things in life to slip by as I made excuses for why I wasn't doing certain things. I am tired of living a lie..yes, there are things I want to do, and look forward to at least having the ability to participate in. I am not saying that I really would sky jump, but by golly I will have that option. Besides being healthier, and looking better I am ready to start living again. Life has been on hold for too long, and my weight has dictated my opportunities too much. Look forward to watching others blossom as well... so my journey begins.

Sorry to hear pumpkin. I hope you feel better soon! I never had a drain. Felt really good the first few days. I don't see how I'm gonna eat when the thought of food makes me sick! Go to doc on Wed for 1 week follow up. Thanks uk for the replies. I'm hanging in there.

I can see my toes... and paint them.
I can put on my socks and tie my sneakers.
I can play with my energetic little dog (who has taught me to fetch Lol)
I can bend over and straighten up again without back pain.
I can work all day and still have energy when I get home.
I can change my clothes in the front seat of my jeep (don't ask, Lol)
I can go upstairs and not need to recover from the trip.
I can't wait to see what else I can do as time goes on... :-)

Harleychic13 got a reaction from Chaych in Bypass vs Sleeve: what made you decide?
    Hi UK,
I currently have a lapband and have chose to revise to the bypass. My lapband has been causing issues and my doctor recommended having it removed, and left the choice up to me as far as the sleeve or bypass. Initially, I wanted the sleeve, mainly due to the malapbsorption issues with the bypass. However, in doing more research and talking to my surgeons, I have decided to do the bypass. I feel that there are too many similarities with the lapband and sleeve. I cant believe I need to go through weight loss surgery again! I really thought the lapband would be my final solution with my weight loss battle. I want the gold-standard in weight loss surgery and hope that I never need my stomach messed with again! Good luck with your final decision and your surgery. Mine is scheduled for October 15TH. Cant wait!

Harleychic13 got a reaction from gummykandi in I loved my band, I hope the sleeve works as well for me...
I know, it can be frustrating! I was leaning towards RNY, but now I am back to the sleeve again. The thought of having my insides re-routed makes me ill...however, having most of your stomach removed isn't a pleasant thought either. I just wanna be able to eat Protein and veggies without throwing up and not be starving all the time!

I understand how you feel! I loved my band at first (lost 90 lbs) gained back 40 over the last three years. Feel like I am starving sometimes I feel the same way, not sure if the sleeve will give me the "fullness" feeling. I'm so confused, going back and forth between the sleeve and the rny. Don't know what choice to make. Just scared of the whole damn thing again!
