  1. Hi there. My name is Molly and I was banded 9 years ago. This year my port got infected and I had to have my band removed 2 weeks ago. I was wondering, anyone who has had it removed, how long did it take for the port wound to heal? Having to pack it twice a day is a pain, but so far I'm not doing it myself because I have family who is willing to do it-- but if it goes on for a long time, I'm going to have to figure out how to do it myself. Thanks, Molly
  2. Daisy-- you're gonna be fine-- try not to worry too much-- I know, easier said than done. I had full lapband removal because of my infection (which I wanted, so I didn't even try to keep the band). From reading the boards, it looks like if it's a removal of the port without infection, it should be somewhat straightforward. personally, if any is wrong with the port, I say, get it fixed the sooner the better. Being pregnant, there is always added worries, but once you get it sorted out, you will feel a lot better.
  3. My port got infected a few weeks ago. I was ready to have the band removed, so it was kinda funny because I thought I'd have to convince the doc to take it out, and he thought he'd have to convince me to give the band up, but we were on the same page! I have an open wound, and have to pack it twice a day-- not sure how long it will go on like this, but I'm off the antibiotics (had allergic reaction to two of them). I am finding the pain is much worse and I'm much for debilitated with the removal than when I had the band put in 9 years ago. I believe it's due to the fact that the port had to be dug out (so much scar tissue), and now it's an open wound-- so keep that in mind when you have the port removed. definitely ask your doc as many questions as possible!Molly
  4. I just had my band removed after having it for nearly 9 years. I could not be happier. I had complications all the time with the band-- it would also get loose, then tight-- and it was a nightmare trying to take any medications. I don't regret getting it, it was right for me at the time. I lost about 70 lbs, but now have it all back again. I had to keep getting unfills because it would get too tight, swollen, stressed. I was a good bandster (had my mistakes and bad steps, but in 9 years, who wouldn't!). When the doc removed it he said the port was "swimming in pus" and that I had a small erosion of the stomach. I'm only 2 weeks band free, but I'm excited for the next step in the journey of life. I know I'm going to be without this "tool" but i'm okay without it and I shall do the best I can.
