  1. Love it. I am tempted to send that to her via private message and unfriend her. Actually, I think that is exactly what I will do. I'll let y'all know the response. thanks

What are you NOT ABLE to eat?

I have seen sushi mentioned a couple times now, why the trouble with sushi!? Also, what happens with rice? I would think since it was small it wouldn't be too bad....
  5. Jackie they probably in-and-out cathed you when you were under anesthesia! They need a way of monitoring your urine output during the procedure/anesthesia. I'll be same day but I work in the hospital so I know what's up with the nether regions
  6. You can do it! You will do great! Make sure to wash your nether region as you will be getting a foley catheter Keep us updated and I'll be praying for you too! GOOD LUCK!

    Wow...cattle call anyone?

Annoying? yes. But please remember that no matter how hard we try emergencies pop up and cause us to run late. Sometimes if you step up to the check in desk they can get you in with another provider sooner or re-schedule your appointment. I've been on the patient side where I've had to wait and gotten really annoyed, but I've also been on the provider side when you have a patient who is coming in for indigestion and you discover they are actively having a heart attack. Or when a 12 week pregnant woman comes in with abdominal pain and you have to tell her she is having a miscarriage. Please remember that we don't mean to disrespect your time!

    Catholic Banders

Instead of drinking the wine, why don't you dip? I find that the little wafer soaks up the wine pretty well and makes it melt in your mouth. I also agree with Quahog, your band is now extra special and blessed

    Alcoholic Beverages...

I have also heard that it is wise not to drink for the first year after banding because most of us are food addicts and there is a chance we can transfer our food addiction to alcohol addiction. But dear God I love wine.

I just bought the Magic Bullet blender and was wondering if anyone else has one? Any recipe ideas? tips? What is your favorite thing to make in the magic bullet?

    Biking

1O more days! 10! it has gone by so fast. When I first scheduled my surgery it seemed so far away. I'm having a lot of mixed emotions but mostly excitement. I'm ready to get this going! I love going to spin class and go twice a week but have been too afraid to ride my bike in public. I've been worried that I'm too fat to make it very far and will have to get off and walk. It is very hilly where I live so there is a very good chance that I wouldn't even make it a block away from home. I decided today that I'm going to sign up for some sort of bike race/charity event this fall with one of my friends. We will start training after I'm banded and with the help of the band (and exercise) I will lose some weight and biking will be easier I hope! Can't wait to be more active and fit!

    The big break up

My surgery is scheduled for June 26th 2013 at 10:15am. I have contemplated lap band for over 2 years and just within the past year decided to do it. Sometimes I still think to myself "do I really need this? am I being crazy? I'm not THAT fat", but then I look in the mirror, look at the numbers on the scale or see someone in public looking at me funny and I realize that I am THAT fat and I need help. I had my first appointment with the surgeon on April 18th, 2013. Since then I have been eating like my life depends on it! Trying to get in everything I won't be eating after surgery. I know, I know, I'll be able to eat all the same things, just smaller portions (eventually), but I'm a food addict. Like an alcoholic can't have just one drink, I can't have just one bite. So for the last 2 months I've been eating like a glutton. I'm happy to say though, that over the last week I've come to terms with the fact that I won't be able to eat certain foods anymore. I've stopped the binge eating and am getting excited for my surgery. I've cut back my calories, started changing my eating habits by taking in more protein and not drinking when eating. I said goodbye to binge eating, my social and emotional crutch, the most damaging relationship I've ever been in, and we broke up. Like many break ups I know it will be hard, and there will be slip ups, but I'm ready to start a new life with a new love, me.
  13. I'm having my surgery on June 26th. I will be in a wedding on October 26th. I need to order my bridesmaid dress now so it is here by October, but I'm not sure what size to order! There are two size choices. The first one is Size A (0-12) and the second one is Size B (14-18). Currently I am a size 14/16. I am thinking I should order the size A because I will be smaller by October....The dress is expensive and designer. I can alter only the length, I can't take in the waist or anything else due to the dress material. What would you all do!?

    The big break up

Yup! I told them at my first appointment. They just said I needed to be cleared by psych and I was.

    The big break up

Thanks for your comment Mrsinto! I didn't mention in my op that I've been doing some binge eating/eating disorders therapy for about 4 months. I'm in a really good place now! I'm excited for what the future holds!

    Bridesmaid dress help!

I think I'm going to order the size A (0-12). Since the dress can't be taken in at all I don't want to wear a big baggy dress after losing weight! I want to look sexy! And I want to be able to wear the dress several more times as I'm losing weight. Even if I lose only 20lbs between now and the wedding I'll be at a weight where I was a size 12. Hope I'm not making a bad decision! I'll post a pic of me in the dress in October

    Anyone have dizzy spells?

Dizzy spells can be caused by many things, not just low BP. What was your heart rate? has anyone checked your carotid arteries lately? Do you have an arrhythmia (irregular heart rhythm)? Ear infection? Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (ear rocks)? What medications are you on? Sinus infection? I can go on and on. A simple physical exam and CBC might be all you need to figure out what is going on. You need to go and see either your PCP or your lap band surgeon. Missy it sounds like you have postural hypotension. Your body is having difficulty adjusting your BP when you go from laying to sitting to standing. If you are laying down, make sure to sit for 2-3 minutes before standing up. Catfish: you are right on the money about the gatorade. If you are riding for 6 hours at a time your body loses a lot of salt/electrolytes and Water in sweat. The body likes balance. If you don't replace the electrolytes your body won't hold onto the water as well. Even if you are drinking enough water you can become dehydrated. If you replace the electrolytes your body will hold onto more water, your BP will not drop and you won't feel dizzy. Everyone should go see their primary care provider for symptoms like dizziness. A fall can easily happen and cause a lot of damage.
  19. I'm doing the same thing! my clothes are all tight . I refuse to buy anything new since I'm having surgery in 2 weeks.
  20. My mother came to visit and proceeded to tell me I need to lose weight....multiple times. As she was leaving she handed me some diet pills, metabalife?, and told me to start taking them. The bottle looked old so I looked at the expiration date and it had expired in 2003!!!! She does not know I am getting lap band in 2 weeks. When she sees me next and notices I have lost weight I am going to tell her it was the expired metabalife pills that she gave me that helped hahaha oh family. What was the craziest/weirdest/most outrageous/offensive thing someone has advised you to do to lose weight?
  21. People seriously inject themselves with goat urine to lose weight!? pregnant women's urine too?! wow. Did it work at all!? My mom has her own food issues so I try to just ignore her when she makes comments about my weight. Lots of therapy has gone into my mother/daughter relationship . She has taught me a lot of what NOT to do when I have a daughter.
  22. oh and this happened this morning!!!

    Clothes

I'll probably keep one pair of 'fat' pants just so I can eventually squeeze my little healthy body into one pant leg and post on here!
  24. Fatty liver is common with obesity. When doing the surgery the surgeon needs to clamp the liver out of the way to access the organs underneath. If the liver is too fatty the surgeon won't be able to get it out of the way easily to view/work on the organs underneath. By doing the pre-op diet most people lose weight and lose some fat off of the liver thereby making it easier to move. On that note, I'm not doing a pre-op diet per my MD and nutritionist. My BMI is barely under 35 so apparently that reduces my chances of having fatty liver. I will probably do something a few days before anyways just because I'm paranoid and don't want a surprise fatty liver.
  25. I told one of the bosses at one of my jobs that I'm having surgery that day. She actually asked what I was having done (I'm in the medical field, everyone asks that stuff) and I just said it is not something I want to discuss. She didn't ask again. I don't think I could live with telling a lie, but that is just me. You can always act like it is a female surgery and that would shut up most people.
