Everyone may have seen this before, but I came across a youtube video that demonstrates our new pouches. Specifically, it demonstrates why drinking with meals is discouraged.
I just wanted to share it with all.

    Enjoy,

Congrats! Gas sucks. Walking helped me a lot. Daytona52 is right, I'm at 3 days post op and feeling better with the gas pains. Just a bit left, but I'm sure it will be totally gone in a few more days.

Dee21, Not bad for all I had done. Banded, hiatal hernia repair and umbilical hernia repair. The incisions from the band have virtually no pain. The umbilical hernia was a different story. Really sore, getting better little by little. Today is day three, really gassy, but passing gas feels great. No offense intended, just FYI. Not hungry at all, forcing myself to drink a Protein Shake and Soup. Worn out today, but for all I had done, I suppose I'm doing well. Thanks for asking.

Hi all! Well I'm feeling a bit better to write about my surgery on Monday, June 10th. I'm Banded!
I arrived at the hospital and all went smoothly. When they wheeled me into the operating room the anesthesiologist said, "I'm giving you something to relax. 10 seconds later, lights out. Next thing I know, I'm waking up in recovery. At first I felt a nauseous, but the nurse gave me something in the I.V. line, and it quickly went away. I also had some pain in my left shoulder from the gas. Ice chips were heaven at that time too. After I felt a bit better and clear headed, they sent me home.
The Doctor told my wife all went smoothly. He repaired my Hiatal hernia, great! He also repaired a Umbilical hernia.
After getting home I felt sore, but took my pain meds. Sipping on Gatorade G2 and Water.< /p>
Now the incisions for the lap band were sore, but manageable, not so bad for what it is.
I went to sleep and woke up several times to visit the restroom, due to all the liquids I've been sipping.
Getting in and out of bed is tough. Nice to have someone help you, or a good plan to easily do it.
Now let me tell you, the next morning I woke up and I felt like a truck ran over my lower abdomen..
The umbilical hernia is REALLY sore. I felt like someone had taken a few swings with a baseball bat to my lower abdomen!
I guess they use very strong sutures for that; makes sense. Apart from the abdominal hernia repair pain, I have some gas pain, but it seems to be dissipating quickly. I felt gas pains in my left shoulder and left lower rib area. Not fun, but it is what it is. You have to ride it out with gas-x strips and lots of walking around the house. I'm holding a pillow against my stomach area, while walking. Why? I feels good, and is just comforting to have a pillow . My throat is sore from the anesthesia, but it's normal. sugar free popsicles are great. I've been sipping on Sobe zero calorie lifewater, chicken broth and water. So, if it wasn't for the hernia repair, I would say the pain is very manageable.
I can feel where my port is located, which is a new curiosity to me. Otherwise, so far I can't tell if I have any restriction, and have no plans on testing it. I just sip, walk and relax. I've spoken with the nurse at the doctors office and double checked that I can start on creamy Soups tomorrow. But I'll take it easy no matter what, I'm not hungry whatsoever, so no hurry to get there. Hope everyone else had a good experiences. Thanks to all of you for being here! I update how the next few days go.

Thank you all for the well wishes! My surgery is scheduled bright and early. 0530 in the morning at the hospital. I'm ready to go! The two week preop diet has been doing its job. I've lost 17lbs, but I know it's not a sustainable diet. Thanks for the advice Rgreen. I'll make sure to pack those things. I'll get back to you all as soon as I can to let you know how it went and is going. Bigtex, good luck to you! Thanks to you all for the support, it's really appreciated.

ArtM reacted to goalseeker in Thank you Lap Bad!! Reflections after 9 months
Recently, I began to ponder all the amazing things this surgery has given me. I absoutely would get a LapBand again if I had to go back in time. It has been the best thing that has ever happened to me...with the exception of hubby and kids obviously. So I thought I would make a list of all of these things. I know that reading stuff like this helped me to encourage me when I was starting out.
    Thank you LapBand for...
    1. self-confidence-I now look in the mirror or at picture and am happy with the person looking back at me. Seeing the results of my efforts is priceless...I have reached goals I thought were just dreams.
    2. control- I no longer feel controlled by food or the need to eat. Not being hungry or feeling deprived has allowed me to make good food choices MOST of the time.
    3. health- I am healthier than I have ever been. My resting pulse is in the 60s, my blood pressure is low, my cholesterol is improving.
    4. the desire to exercise- I exercise 6 days a week and have gotten to the point that if I miss my workout my day just doesn't seem right. I love the way it makes me feel and the way it is reshaping my body.
    5. energy- I have so much energy to do active things with my children and family.
    6. the ability to wrap a towel around myself after a shower!!
    7. the ability to bend down and tie my shoes or buckle a pair of cute sandals without too much effort...and painting my toes is easier too.
    8. not being hot and sweaty all the time
    9. shopping in any store I want and any department of that store.
    10. wearing a bikini...even if it is only in the back yard with my hubby and kids.
    11. crossing my legs under a table with ease.
    12. cute clothes...I've become a bit of a shopper as of late
    13. knee high boots!!!
    14. shopping at victoria's secret
and of course I know there is plenty more that just won't come to mind.
I started out at 255 and am now 175. I have 25 to go!!
I have lost a total of 57 inches over my whole body...10.75 in my waist, 8 in my hips, 7 in my chest, 3 in both arms, 3.75 in both thighs, 2.75 in both calves, (it doesn't add up cause I'm not listing it all).
I couldn't be happier with the results. I look forward to reaching the next 10 pounds lost and then onto the final goal....It can be done. Don't get discouraged!!

What do you thank YOUR lapband for???

Well back from my pre-op appt. Got my prescriptions filled and instructions. It's really going to happen! I have to be on Clear Liquids 48 hours prior. I'm excited. I asked him what cc band is usually used. He said 10cc is the most common, but men commonly get the 14cc, but it is determined during surgery. Then 6 to 8 weeks for my first fill. Sounds pretty standard to me. Almost there, can't wait for Monday. I think my anxiety is settling down.

I can't believe this day has arrived. I have been so happy. Today is such a sad day. I have to say goodbye to one of my besties. Such good friends we have been, but you have turned against me. Its terrible to feel this way but I really have to end the relationship.
Goodbye Beans. All Beans no pinto beans or refried beans. No black beans or lima beans. Never again. I can't take it. My band hates you and has demanded our departure. Have a wonderful bean life.

Goodbye my friend. Its been real.

Well, I've started my pre-op diet this morning for my surgery on June 10th.
I have to say, I'm so happy to get started with the pre-op diet. Friday my friend visited my and brought over some left over pizza from this great pizza joint. We didn't eat it right then, he just left it so it would go to waste.
Well, the next day I re-heated it. Hungry, I started eating. I starting thinking, do I really want this surgery? I won't be able to chow down on pizza like this. Meaning, eat the usual huge amount of this delicious pizza and other foods. After three giant pieces of the pizza, I knew why I was here in the first place. I ate so much my stomach was entirely too full. You may know that I ate too much feeling; dumb, why did I do that "again"! Now I felt sluggish afterwards, as usual. I know better, but do it anyways. every time.
I'm not a grazer, when it's time to eat, "it's time to eat", and I always eat way too much, even when I know not to eat that much. That repeated experience just solidified my decision to change my life with the help of my upcoming banding.
Now that I've started the pre-op diet, I'm super excited to start on this new journey. I'm having a hiatal and umbilical hernia corrected during my band surgery. Can't wait!
I'm drinking the Premier Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch. Green vegetables and 4 oz of chicken (cooked protein) for dinner, and 64 oz of Water or no calorie drink per day. Time for a new healthy life.
Day one, so far so good.
    Any other upcoming June bandsters?

I happy that others feel the same way I do. It really helps to know that others are going though the same experiences and emotions. Today is going to be a rough day. My niece is graduating from high school and we are having a get together at my home, with food of course. I'll be strong and stay the course, just because I do not want to fail again, as with other diets.
I've also thought this to be a good test on will power for the remainder of the two week pre-op diet.
I was also surprised at the amount of chicken 4 oz is. On paper 4 oz's sounded like nothing, but when I weighed it out, it satisfied me with the small green salad and lots of Water a while afterwards.
Of course by the time dinner was rolling around, I was ready to eat. i ate slow, put down my silverware between bites and was happy afterwards (practicing). Still not so bad on the pre-op diet. However, I've warned my friends if I turn into a grouchy bear, they will know why!
