  1. Here is the recipe forum: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1052-recipe-sharing/
  2. Skim milk powder has 8 grams of protein in 25 grams and dissolves into water or milk just fine. You can even fit two or three servings of it into one glass of water and add some flavoring. It's not for everyone but worth a try.
  3. I still think the treadmill is harder / more uncomfortable. I think because your body naturally wants to vary the pace when you're running. I have better luck on the treadmill gradually increasing my speed (by .1 or so) every minute or so until I get to a good speed, then varying it a bit during the heat of the run and gradually slowing down at the end, than by pounding away for 45 minutes at the exact same speed. When I am outside my speed can vary from 8 to 9.5 kph (my app tells me my average speed each kilometer) so I try to emulate that on the treadmill and it feels more comfortable.
  4. It can refer to either shoulder, your stomach, or your back with gallstones. For me, it always felt like I was having back spasms. Some people think they have appendicitis or are having a heart attack.
  5. All of these sensations are signals that the vagus nerve is being stimulated. Your vagus nerve runs along your spine close to your stomach and other organs. It refers pain and irritation to parts of your body that make your left shoulder hurt, make you sneeze, make your nose run, etc. If you get these sensations after eating, it means you had one bite too many. If it is random in the first two weeks post-op, it's your diaphragm being irritated by the gas still trapped in your body from surgery. If it is your gallbladder you will know because there is nothing mild about it, but yes your gallbladder can refer pain to your left shoulder too. But the pain will make you want to cut off your arm.
  6. Only until the staple line is healed. Then the sleeve is not any more delicate than a normal stomach would be.
  7. They should do. Of course you will be billed but they will have a chemist on-site.
  8. Grilled chicken thigh and stir-fried chard with chillies
  9. Your gall bladder can refer pain all over your torso. I used to think it was back spasms but I have heard of people thinking it was a heart attack or appendicitis. But it will escalate and be pretty bad if it is. I never had a small gallstone attack. If it gets worse and worse and Tylenol doesn't do anything, you can go to urgent care and they can give you something for the pain and give you an ultrasound. If you have gallstones your bariatric surgeon can remove your gallbladder during your other surgery.
  10. You were super cute before but hot now!
  11. You will get those filled when you are at the hospital. Don't worry about it. I have been researching Multivitamins to make sure I have good ones. Australia has a lot less variety than the US. The best I have found that are available in Australia is the Blackmores sustained release with antioxidants. You only need one a day and it even has all your Iron. And the Blackmores Total Bone Health uses Calcium citrate which is the best calcium for bariatric patients and has 600 mg so you only need 2 a day. Just remember not to take calcium and iron together because they cancel each other out. I take one calcium with Breakfast, one with lunch, and the Multivitamin before bed. Otherwise the iron makes me queasy. Working so far! The calcium I was using before I had to take two pills at a time and they were big.
  12. It matters to pre-ops who haven't made their decision yet. It is not a decision to be made lightly.
  13. It replaced a morning snack which would have had less protein and more carbs before. But I am now trying to skip that morning snack because I am not really hungry then. It was just an attempt to get in enough protein. But I will see how I go with skipping it and either not having the shake or having it for breakfast. My shake has 30 grams of protein, 170 calories and 9.2 grams of carbs, only 6 of which are sugars.
  14. Get a couple of shakers and put your protein powder in them in the morning. Grab a bottle of water and shake. Also focus on other portable snacks. Take up walking to get from point A to B and get your exercise in at the same time. Good luck!
  15. When we are first getting started, we tend to shoot for high Protein numbers daily. For most of us, we aim for 60-100+ grams, and there seems to be an attitude that more is better. As we reach normal weights, do our protein requirements go down? I would assume yes but I'm not sure. The reason I ask is because I am in a 5-week (so far) stall that coincides with finding a Protein shake I like and finally reaching protein numbers over 60. I've been getting 90-100, which I felt was awesome and was totally going to make my weight loss better. Instead, I have stalled. I wonder if it is because I'm getting way more protein than my body needs at this lower weight, and I would be better off aiming for 60 again and skipping the daily protein shake. Disclaimer, I am in my first real stall at 8.5 months and I'm not particularly stressed about it. I understand stalls and I'm not worried that I am stuck here forever.
  16. I think that society as a whole has accepted higher weights as "normal" for normal folks (as opposed to models and movie stars) so a healthy weight can look too thin to our friends and family. It also probably makes them compare their own bodies to yours and they realize that they also could stand to lose a few. I think it leads to some mild discomfort and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with your own health or appearance.
  17. Not everyone has to see a dietitian.
  18. Not everyone has to see a dietitian.
  19. High levels at any time indicate damage being done to your tissues. I applaud you for being proactive and not just accepting that it is ok. Some people need to eat something before bed to control those fasting glucose levels. There is a great website / forum for diabetics called http://tudiabetes.com where you might find more advice for lowering the morning blood glucose. If you are using insulin you might need to use a different type of insulin before bed than you do before your meals. I'd also consider talking to your endo or diabetic educator because your GP might not be up on all the information specific to diabetes.
  20. Be aware of a condition called bile acid diarrhea which can occur after gall bladder removal. If you start having diarrhea every day, ask your doctor about Questran. I suffered for 7 months before I got a proper diagnosis and sweet relief. I am back to being a once a day girl.
  21. Since you say you have a dietitian, why not ask?
  22. No problem. Clumpy protein is so nasty to me and I prefer my hot coffee black with no sugar. But iced coffee is a nice treat!

It's pretty easy to have mostly the sauce / topping with just a bit of pasta or rice. The good news is the sauce will most likely be in the "soft food" category and really easy to handle, whether it is pasta sauce, stir fry or other Asian food, chili, Salisbury steak, stroganoff etc. just choose the lower calorie options and be careful of too much fat which can cause dumping. With the pasta you will probably want it have just 2-3 noodles and with the rice just a small spoonful and have just a couple grains with each bite. Otherwise you will not fit much of the protein. You might end up like me and realize you prefer the toppings to the starch! I think a lot of our parents and grandparents used starch to "stretch" the food and make it go further. We don't need to worry about that post-WLS.
  24. Also, nobody every got pregnant from eating a donut. This philosophy of sex instead of food could lead too all kinds of scary outcomes and could actually become a transfer addiction. Sorry but the more I think about it, the more dangerous the advice seems.
