Y'all were pretty much right. I was psyching myself out. I got 1.5 cc had to my 14cc bad for a total of 2.3 cc. Is 1.5 a typical add in amount?
The most painful part was the nurse looking for my port. For a tiny Asian woman she sure could press down on my gut!
The good news is I was down 26 from surgery and 51 from preop.
Thanks again for all the words of encouragement.

I have only had my band about 2 weeks but I have the same problem with no fills yet of course. Wish I knew what it was as well. I mentioned it to the nurse an she said same thing you did.

I have been in my bed since the day of surgery (last wednesday, June 26th). I felt better laying flat on my back in bed than in a chair/recliner. I got a little step stool and have figured out how to step-up, get on the bed on my knees and kind of fall over with my little pillow over my stomach. Sounds kind of ridiculous writing it, but I was proud when I could get into bed by myself haha. Getting out of bed takes a little longer but includes my little pillow over my stomach, some fancy rolls, and my bedside table. You'll figure it out. I think after the first week you will have learned some tricks that work for you. My sister was with me the day I had surgery, but I've been alone during the day since then. I stopped taking my pain meds last night so I can drive, but I'm not quite up to it. I think a week out you should be ok. good luck!

I'm 8 days post op and I can pretty much do whatever I want, or at least everything I have tried lol. The only time I feel anything is when I bend over to tie my shoes. And I'm not suppose to lift 30 lbs or more for 2 more weeks. But right after my surgery I couldn't do anything. I slept in my recliner and only started sleeping in the bed last night.

Everyone's surgery is different but I could walk right after surgery and even drove and shopped for Valentine's Day the day after my surgery. I was really only sore about 4 days and the pain meds took care of that pretty well. Your mileage may vary but It's usually a pretty quick recovery. Anytime you bend over, cough, or climb I'd recommend putting your hand on your port area and applying a little pressure. It can relieve some of the strain on your abdominal muscles where the port is attached.

I am 1 week postop and here is what I did:
For the first few nights I slept in my daughter's bed as mine was too high to climb in. I think it was probably night 3 that I got into my own bed with careful maneuvering.
I began driving again 4 days post op. I have an SUV that I have to hitch up into a bit. I had to have my kids shut my door a few times because I couldn't lean over to close it. I've since learned to pull it with me as I get in. Getting in and out still have challenges. Try your truck first and then see how you feel.

Almost anyone who's been banded should be able to answer these questions, but my main concerns are getting around in the first couple weeks after surgery. I'll be at home with my parents for a week, but after that will be living alone 3 hours away and going to school full-time. First, how did everyone sleep after surgery? At my parent's house we have a couple recliners I can sleep on for that first week, but my bed in my apartment is lifted to about hip-waist level, so I'm thinking that might be difficult, but maybe not after a week? Someone clue me in please! I also drive a pickup truck with no running boards, so I kind of have to half jump into that as well and definitely have to use stomach muscles to do so. Do y'all think it would be a bad idea to try to drive my truck? I can probably have one of my parents switch cars with me for a little while if I really need to. I'll definitely ask my doctor at my preop appointment but want to get a general idea first!

Hey! A while back I decided to get a tattoo on my upper thigh, closer to the hip. It was a moment of weakness as something had happened in my family. When I told my artist I was going to be losing weight he told me that the skin would lose most of the Elastin and the tattoo would look different, but depending on the placement it may not change at all. I love my tattoo and I'm hoping it doesn't change much. If it does I've already spoke to him about changing it up some or doing a cover-up of something similar. I hope everything stays looking good!!

I have a lot of tattoos, and the ones I had before weight loss generally just shrunk along with me, especially the ones on my arms and legs. I did have a couple that were on my tummy (over a lot of stretch marks from pregnancy, not just weight loss) that kinda looked saggy and weird once I lost the weight, but I blame that more on the fact that the skin was all stretched out. When I had my body lift they were cut away with the excess skin anyway.
I have pics in my gallery if you want to have a look at some of my tattoos before and after.

I'm pretty heavily tattooed and I'm curious if anyone out there who has lost a bunch of weight is as well and what affect the loss had on your body art.... I've seen tats on folks who have gained but not the other way around.
    Thanks!

I had the shoulder pain as well, but it passed after maybe my 3rd fill if I remember correctly. It was VERY painful, so much so that I didn't eat much during that time and lost a lot of weight (over a month perhaps). I never ever feel it anymore.

I get the same pain and I'm 2 months post op. I figured it was a sign I ate or drank too much. I hope it doesn't mean I've stretched my band.

You have a very large, very major nerve that is effected by the band. It's called the Vagus nerve. Part of what the band does is stimulate that nerve into sending a signal to your brain to make you feel satisfied on very little food. It also dims the hunger signals.
For some people, it's a bit over-stimulated and they feel the left shoulder pain you're speaking of. Thankfully, the majority do find it passes a couple months after their band surgery. For others, that shoulder pain you speak of becomes their signal they've eaten too much and need to stop eating immediately.
My best advice is to measure your portions and be sure to stick to a cup or less of food. When you drink, drink small slow sips.
    Good luck!

Hi, I've never had pain in my left shoulder until I got the lap band surgery. I've had 2 small fills. I am maintaining my weight presently. I have an appointment for a 2nd fill in 2 weeks. I've told my doctor about the pain but he has no idea. His nurse did tell me that she's heard others say the same. If I have a meal or even maybe 4 cups of water; I'll get a sharp pain in my left shoulder. it's the "pain in my shoulder" that tells me to stop eating OR drinking. How can a lap band surgery have an effect on your shoulder??? I personally find it disturbing and very odd. Any takers???

I would suggest to take your pain-killer (opiod type- like oxycodon), maybe you just came off the pain med but you still need it to continue. If that does not relieve it, you may want to call the doctor's office and ask.

I would say using a pillow would help with some of that, but if that didn't work i'd check with the doc and see if it'll continue to happen! It sounds terrible! XX Best Wishes

I had a similar incident but mine was hiccups. Pain beyond belief eventually it subsided and had to pay very close attention to the pain after I took a dose of lortab. Keep an eye on it closely and call your doctor if it keeps up

I was banded on the 26th of June. I've been doing really well today, left the house, went for a walk etc. I had a tickle in my throat just a little bit ago and had a coughing fit. WORST PAIN EVER. Felt like my port was being ripped from my body. I grabbed my little pillow, held it to my stomach but it didn't do much to help. Could I have hurt or dislodged my port!? will it always hurt when I cough from here on out? anyone have any tricks or tips to stop it from hurting so much when I cough? That was just a horrible, horrible experience.
