drehn88 got a reaction from JACKIEO85 in Bowel movements- sorry:(
Sounds like what I ate the first few days post op. It took me over a week. Try Miralax. Do NOT use magnesium citrate. I was laid up with terrible intestinal cramps when I used that. Good luck.

Take your pain meds on schedule. I tried to not take them, but by day 3 post op I felt like total crap and taking my meds throughout the next 2 days really helped. Trust us...you will feel back to normal in about a week. Take care.

If he doesn't have "what it takes to succeed," then why would any other WLS surgery be a magic potion? If a person isn't committed to lifestyle changes any surgery can be turned into a failure. I feel bad for the guy... he was persecuted for being fat, and now that he has taken a positive course of action he is being questioned as to his choice of surgeries, motives, etc.

drehn88 got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in Gastric Band Not Best Choice for Christie?
Quoted from the article: "The ideal candidate for the band is someone who "wants to augment a change in behavior and eating habits" and who had sufficient determination and commitment to make it work, according to Todd Wilson, MD, a surgeon at the University of Texas Medical School."
I think this says a lot for those of us that chose the band. It's not the "easier" way to lose weight like the sleeve or GB. Determination and commitment to change bad eating habits!

I am so sorry this happened to you. Did anyone tell you how in the heck the band could have migrated south to your bowel? I hope all goes well with your surgery and you can have a full recovery.

I've never been a fast food junky, but the rare time that I do drive through, I'll choose one of their healthier options. Carl's Jr. has a great turkey burger. I'll eat maybe half of it. I do not have any issues with bread, but even so, I eat very little of it. I've found that I'm satiated for longer when I omit carbs. If I don't omit them, I eat a tiny portion.
Like parisshel, my pre-band diet was the old pyramid; Protein, starch, fruit & veggies. I think there was also milk on that pyramid, but I really only drink it when there is Cookies or cake to wash it down - LOL!

drehn88 got a reaction from MsGal in Two Questions about time off and hospital stay
For both questions, just remember everyone is different and each surgeon has their own protocol. With that being said, I had surgery on a Monday and was back to work the next Monday. I thought I would go back within 3 or 4 days but NO WAY! I was pretty fatigued the day I went back, but I think that was because of my low number of calories and Protein I was consuming. I did not have to stay the night. From what I hear on LBT, most lapband patients don't have to spend the night in the hospital. Good luck! It's all worth it!

For the most part you will do most of the work, the band will do some but not all. Its up to you and changing your eating habits that is the key to success. Everyone is different in how many fills it takes to help. The band will never stop you from eating it will keep you from being hungry for 4 or 5 hours on smaller amounts of food. People get restriction messed up. For some it stops the amount that you can eat but in all reality the food doesnt stay in your pouch long enough to make a difference. Even at my green zone if I want I can still eat a large plate of food. Its up to me to control that I wouldnt do that. I really think people are so misinformed about the way the band works.

drehn88 got a reaction from cat whisperer in First one for May???
Just got back from my appointment (BTW, it was the first one since surgery on May 6). I asked how much saline was put in my band during surgery. They said 6 cc. OMG!!! No wonder I didn't feel like eating for 2 weeks! I talked with the nurse practitioner about my eating habits, etc. She was going to give me a small fill, but then I said I didn't want one. She was happy to hear that because she really thinks I don't need one right now. Basically, just because I CAN eat anything and take big bites doesn't mean I SHOULD do that. She said even if I don't vomit or PB doesn't mean the pouch can't dilate. She also said putting Fluid in could make that worse and I still don't have to have the vomiting symptoms. I've been a little worried that damage can still be done even without the obvious symptoms.
So, it's back to following all the rules. Going back in 2 weeks to see how I'm doing.

My nurse couldn't find my port at first and then neither could my surgeon. They did locate it...after quite a few pokes...but they did say the first one is always the hardest. They were lovely to me...I had one cc put in and that should take me to about 4. Feeling full all day and loving it!!!!
