It's not just her! You bash everyone when they say they would never get the band again or that they don't recommend it- I'm far from crazy I'm open to everyone's stories. Reevaluate yourself! This forum is awful because of one sided people like you

Mis73 unless someone says what YOU want to hear you bash them!! You genuinely think this woman is lying!!? And you asked if she follows up with the doctor and she said yes - she didn't say I follow up with my original surgeon. God you're crazy- you're the only one that sounds psychotic! For gods sake you googled the woman!! Are you saying no one has complications!!!?? Tons of people do! For everyone that does there's so many more that don't. Regardless - this band is not the safest thing! The safest thing is losing weight without it! This thread along with many others convinced me to cancel my surgery. That is my choice. There are many things to consider 20-40-60 year from now and I'm not willing to take those risks! Just because you are so what?!!! Don't read these threads if all you want to read is rainbows and butterflies! That poor woman's story was so nice and so genuine! And I'm glad she told it!

Reasonable people would think, "Hey, maybe there would be something to learn from people who have been banded for a DECADE." Insecure ones think, "I'm not listening because they might tell me something I don't want to hear." Doesn't make the truth less truthful, though. So, the insecure people strike out, call people "trolls," (which is ridiculous. It's the internet) and then realize down the road that the people trying to post to HELP were actually trying to post TO HELP. The funny thing is, I WAS one of the insecure people back when I was first banded, too. I remember striking out, too. I was so afraid that I hadn't made the correct decision. And that clouded my perspective on everything. There is no reason to attack people who have had complications and choose to post about them. There is simply NO reason to take it personally. Just like I don't take any offense to people posting about their success and happiness. I'm genuinely happy for the people who are happy. I can't understand why the unhappiness of those of us who had bad band experiences should affect some people on such a deep level, unless it's due to their own insecurity.
I don't see people posting "Scare tactics." If their truth scares you, it's because you know there is something to be scared about. Maybe you didn't research enough and are just now finding out about common complications. But if you're NOT having problems, just stay positive and enjoy your success. IF you develop complications, isn't it better to KNOW that others have had them, as well, and what they did to help themselves? I'd think so. No need to be SCARED. Just be aware, that's all.
I truly had a horrible time while banded. My family suffered alongside me, and it's not something that's easily forgotten. It can change a person for life. I've always thought it would be really nice if people could empathize a little, sincerely. I'm not perfect. I can be a total tool when I get angry. I know this. But for the most part, I really want to help others avoid what I went through.

Due to recent posts, and doubts I'm having based on that and some other things I've come across- I'm requesting to push my aug 5th surgery date back... I want to talk to my surgeon and feel sure of my decision! I've been 100% sure that this is what I want until the last week or so... This is too big a decision to make with doubts. Just hope I can decide soon. I've sent an email to my surgeons office asking what my options are for switching my surgery date. Guess we'll see!! So disappointed in myself but just not feeling good about it like I was !

It seems so difficult now but things will get easier. It is a struggle to get through the first few days with the lightheadedness, hunger pains etc. I promise it will get easier. I'm on day 12 of my liquid diet and honestly I feel great! It took me a few days but after day 2 or so it was getting much easier. I try not to think about it, keeping myself busy! I hope all goes well! You are so close! You can do it!

Co-sign all the reassurance and motivation from previous posters and would add that once you get past the "miserable" hump you will gain so much confidence in yourself. I finished my pre op diet feeling on top of the world and finally more in control of my relationship with food. Also helped a ton in preparing me for post op diet. Good luck to you!!

Try to spread things out so that you are having something every couple of hours. Especailly at work, that is what helped me get through the days and after the first day I was not hungry and it was simple to get through.
I would start at 9 with a shake, then at 11, maybe yougurt or fat free sugar free pudding. 1 I would have some Soup etc.
so the times would be spread out to every other hour, 9;11;1;3;5;7;9 It kept my blood sugar from crashing no headaches, and my tummy wasn't growling at me. The withdrawl from sugar and caffine can cause a bit of discomfort but if your 2 days in you should already be through that.
    Best of luck to you!

HONEY!!!! It is just your body changing and all of the bad stuff processing and filtering out of your sysytem. Please remember to DRINK your Water this will help to flush faster. Thank goodness I was on a sugar buster for 2 weeks prior and not total liquids. I could eat chicken, fish, baked or grilled of course and the right green veggies. IT IS hard but HOW bad do you want this. My surgery was on 6/21...as of today I have lost a total of 25#! SCORE!!! IT IS WORTH IT! {{HUGS}}!

Aww you can do it connie, this is the worst part, nothing compares to that pre op diet, i felt just the same, i was constantly in the bathroom too my bowels wouldnt agree with the pre op diet, i was also so emotional i cried every day. If it was a normal fad diet id have given up but look at what your going to gain from it a whole new and healthier lifestyle. How long do you have to do the pre op diet for? I only had to do it for 2 weeks and was banded 3rd july. I use to phone my dietician every day in tears and by day number 10 she was pretty harsh and said 'you have 2 options.... 1 - get on with it and do it and 2 - dont have the band...simple. those were the exact words i needed to give me a kick up the bum lol. So after that i kept repeating those words in my head xxx

Erica - my surgery is the 5th but I chose to start pre-op diet today rather than Monday... My reasoning behind this (I'm sure I sound crazy) is because I'm going on vacation just 3 days after starting pre-op diet and I hear that's the hardest time to stick to it- I feel like starting today will get me a head start and maybe I'll be more into it when my vacation starts (making it easier to stick to) lol ... So here we go!!! I'm taking pictures today full body all around pics and starting my video diary tonight! I was getting so nervous but now I'm getting psyched! I'm hoping to lose a good 10lbs pre-op!!!

I can't believe how everyone attacked the person with a negative experience- I want to know good bad and ugly you're all just pro-band so you're mad!! I'm afraid for my future and I want to be able to bring this up to my doctor before the band is placed!! Whoever started this thread wanted opinions! Jeez let the person have one

So I've been SO ready and so excited for my August 5th surgery date for lap band- however lately I've been having 2nd thoughts. Every once in a while I think "forget it, I can't do this" and then I see how many people feel like its the best decision they ever made! Well today I googled about finding men in my area who've been banded (I'd just like to get to know people and I'm single so it was worth a try) but instead I found a forum where People were writing how the band ruined their lives - they almost died - and most said at no fault of their own... Idk what to do!! I'm panicking and so afraid! I know all the ways it can be great but now I know even more ways it can be awful!!! Does everyone have this fear??

So yesterday was my final NUT appt... This week i completed my cardiologist, pulmonologist, and surgeon clearance... On Monday my 6 months worth of pre-op will be submitted to my insurance for approval (or gasp, denial)... I'm just saying a prayer that it goes through and is approved because I start my pre-op diet next week! Can't believe how fast these 6 months have gone!!! Hoping to be living the banded life starting 8/5/13!!
