    Unfilled/possible revision?

I was in the same boat. But I had the revision surgery. When the band slips, it doesn't fix itself. And waiting too long can cause more damage. I suffered from heartburn and acid reflux. The morning after surgery.....all gone. Mind you, I had to start all over from 1cc, which caused weight gain. And it's takes more fills to feel any affects, but I'm on the upswing. My advice, if your being given medical advice, take it. They are the professionals. Slipped bands are so dangerous. Don't take chances.
  2. I Didn't believe that the TOM could cause restriction, but I'm starting to see a pattern. I get stuck every time my monthly just about to start. I thought this was an old wives tale but I'm beginning to think it's true. Does this happen to anyone else?
  3. Hi. I had surgery on Oct 15th to fix my slipped band. Dr unfilled me to 1 cc at surgery. Finally went for my first fill and got .5 cc. Felt nothing. since surgery I've gained 15 pounds. My mind is really taking control cause I feel like this is a last chance to eat foods I can't when the band is filled. So, I requested another fill and received another 1 cc for a total 2.5. But it's been 4 days and still no restriction and still get hungry before the 4 hour mark. I'm starting to worry there is something wrong with my band.
  4. Yes Liz, that could happen. It's been so different for me this time around. First time I reached green zone right off the bat with 2 cc's. Stayed at my perfect weight for over a year until I had a few terrible stuck episodes that caused my band to slip. My reposition surgery was beginning of October, and I am now at 4.5 cc's. No restriction, hungry after 2-3 hours. I have gained 15 lbs and I am so terrified that ill keep gaining. I'm going for another fill in January so I'm hoping that'll at least start something.

    Unfilled Band too Tight..frustration...

Same! I was over filled which cause me to get stuck so often that my band slipped. Chronic acid reflux is a sure sign of a slipped band. I had an X-ray, an upper GI and still my Dr said it was what I was eating. I finally begged him to look at it again and sure enough, a slipped band. He did a revision surgery 2 months ago and instant relief. Now I have to start all over but what a relief. There is nothing worse than constant stuck feeling, not being able to eat and still have acid reflux.
  6. The weird thing is; at the original surgery in May 2013, I started out with 2 cc and lost 60 lbs. but because the band slipped i had to have surgery in oct/14 to get it fixed and start over. I'm at 2.5 with absolutely nothing happening. I was expecting it to be the same as the first time.

    Surgery Tomorrow Morning

Well my band has slipped. After 7 months and many many sleepless nights due to acid reflux and dreadful heartburn, I go in for surgery tomorrow to reposition my band. Thanks god he can reposition it rather than take it out completely because if that were the case I would be devastated. Looking forward to getting back to normal again.

    Surgery Tomorrow Morning

Surgery went well. Now I start over new! Liquids.....mushies and so on. It was so nice to sleep last night with no heartburn or acid reflux. I didn't have to prop 4 pillows behind my head and back to sleep sitting up. On the road once again.

    Hiatal Hernia or something else?

He doesn't know for sure but I think I know. I had my band put in May 2013. Great weight loss, absolutely no issues, very rarely did I get stuck. Until April 2014!!! I had one very bad stuck episode which caused me to thrown up all night to the point that it was acid coming up. Ever since this episode I've had problems. Getting stuck easily, can't eat some of the food I normally can eat, but mostly constant heartburn and terrible acid reflux. I even had all the saline taken out in July 2014, but that still didn't do it. So here I am 7 months later finally getting this taken care of. I waited too long to tell my Dr. what was going on.

    Surgery Tomorrow Morning

I would get checked! I was told that acid reflux is a sure sign that something is not right.

    Band slippage....

I am in the same boat, however, the unfill didn't work. I go into surgery tomorrow morning to reposition the band.

    Hiatal Hernia or something else?

Well as it turns out my band has slipped. I go in for surgery tomorrow morning to position it better. I am so looking forward to this to get back to to normal. So tired this heartburn and acid reflux. The good news is, that he reposition it rather than take it out completely.

Band emptied - starting to gain......yikes

Can you believe I've basically healed myself! I went back to eating as if I just had surgery. Soups and liquids for a few days, then mushies, then solids but this time I'm really chewing and watching what I eat. My heartburn has all but completely disappeared. And I've lost weight again. Lesson learned. It's amazing that even after over a year my old eating and chewing habits can creep back into my life.
  14. Hi everyone, I've been having problems for quite a few months with my band. I've been having serious acid reflux and heartburn issues so I finally had all the Fluid removed from the band. It took a few months to have any kind of effect as I was still having a hard time eating and still having acid reflux. My Dr. said everything was fine with placement of the band and that I am getting acid reflux because I didn't have enough substantial food in my stomach for the acid to do its job. He advised me to start eating more and eating more valuable food. (I'd begun to rely on sliders) Well, finally in the last month or so I've been able to eat ALOT more than I used to, but I'm still having acid reflux issues and almost daily heartburn problems. I drink Glaviscon every night before I go to bed so I won't have sudden eruption in my sleep. But I'm gaining weight. What I'm wondering is should a try to get another fill?

    That's awesome info. Thank you.

Band emptied - starting to gain......yikes

Thanks guys. I'm gonna try eliminating the gluten, it's worth a try. The last thing I want is to have the band removed. I think tho, the worse case scenario will be to reposition it. I really think this is the issue. I am going for a barium swallow just make sure about the positioning. I'll keep you posted.

Band emptied - starting to gain......yikes

No I didn't. This only started about 10 months after being banded. But it caused a lot of problems for me. I wonder if it will stop if get a new fill?

    Back Pain

But you are right I did realize the back pain is from the throwing up

    Back Pain

I'm not sure if these are coincidence or not but I've been having a lot of difficulty lately with stuck episodes and acid reflux. Since these have been causing problems, my back started aching. Has anyone else had this experience?

    Back Pain

Yes, I did try that. Several times. I am at the point now that I haven't eaten anything solid for about 2 weeks now. I'm fine with sliders and soup, but the minute I try something solid, I get stuck and heave until it all comes up and BAM, my back is sore again. I'm so tired of this. I have 0 fluid in my band. All was taken out back in March but still have restriction problems. I had an upper gi in July and it showed there were no problems with the placement of the band. So I'm at a loss, but I do know that I've bs enough of feeling this way. I have an appointment on Sept 3rd to finally get to the bottom of this.

    consistently sick

How are you feeling now? I'm going through the same thing except I'm not sick, just have no energy due to lack of nutrients. I too have all fluid taken out 5 months ago and still having a hard time eating anything with substance. I have an appointment next week to get to the bottom of this. It's so frustrating because for a year and 1/4 I was doing fantastic, weight loss was perfect, eating was awesome, energy was excellent, I was so happy. But then after one stuck episode it all changed and now I am actually regretting this surgery. Can't eat without feeling achy in the throat and stomach. I get stuck EVERYIME I eat, which is causing back pain. I don't know how much of this I can take.

    Hiatal Hernia or something else?

I hear ya. I thought this was just the way it was going to be and I would have to learn to live with it. But to hell with that! When I lose sleep I can't function. I too get these spontaneous burst of acid coming up so fast it comes out of my mouth and nose. I can't take it anymore. Although, mine seems to go away until I have another stuck episode which seems to be more and more often. I'm not doing anything differently but seem to get this ball in my throat that feels like I have to burp. But it's not. Even when I chew like there's no tomorrow. I'm eating so little now that sometimes during the day I get lightheaded. I think I either have a hiatal hernia or my band has slipped. Either way I have to get this figured out. Please let me know if you find anything out and I will do the same.

    Hiatal Hernia or something else?

Wow! Your story is my mirrored life. If I didn't know, I'd swear I wrote that post. I have an appointment with my surgeon on September 3rd. I hope I get answers. I will share what I find out.

    Slipped Band

Everyone is different. When I have a stuck episode it takes at least 1 week to get back to normal. I guess I'm very sensitive and really swell up. And to top it off, I always get really bad acid reflux. I have to go 1 or 2 days just taking liquids like water, soups etc. then another 2 days just mushy foods. And so on. I find that after 1 week I am fully recovered, and believe me, that is enough to remind me to take small bites and chew chew chew.

    Food ideas

I am 1 1/4 years with my band. Last week I had a stuck episode and it caused a lot of swelling to my stomach and I think my esophagus. I am moving slowly towards eating again but I still can't eat solids. Do you have suggestions for mushy foods that I can eat? I am so bored of just soups and ice cream.
