  1. After cardiac issues, my husband used a stationary pedal machine, looks like the pedals on a bike with resistance. His is called the monarch rehab, however, I have seen much cheaper models . It would be stationary peddling like A bike, done seated as well as can be placed on a table while you peddle with your arms. He said it was quite a cardiac workout, as well as muscle building with the resistance. Is it possible to use a recumbent bicycle? There are stores like play it again sporting goods, yard sales, craigslist, for good used equipment. After back surgery I have done many exercises laying on my back, as well as wrist & ankle weights, elastic bands. The hardest part is getting started. Start small, maybe three times or reps once or twice a day. My 80 year old father uses an old old stationary bike that the handle bars pull forward and back, it's rusted and pathetic looking but he won't trade it! Every day he does 15 minutes, his theory, if you stop moving someone's liable to cover you up with dirt!
  2. When you point a finger at someone, three fingers are pointing at you... Chill, move on...
  3. One thing I found helpful when I went to physical therapy, was to explain why I could not come as frequently as recommended . I asked if they would help outline a plan for the days I couldn't be there. They were so helpful! Even downloaded copies of exercises to remind me how to do it properly. Maybe this would work for you? So many therapist genuinely want to help you if you just let them know what you need. Once you have your routine down, you can increase repetitions. Go when you can, let them refine and add to your program. Really, you may find they actually enjoy someone who wants to give 100% to get better! You have the spirit and the attitude! You can do this.
  4. Have a great trip, enjoy the weather and the limitless scenery! It's nice to know you will be able to be more focused on people, places and things! Feed your mind - learn a lot & enjoy!
  5. Dawalsh, I just read what you were saying about the meeting place, a coffee spot sounds brilliant to me! Even with that wonderful smell, most times, those old cravings don't exist any longer, I hope you all enjoy your time together, until something suitable comes along, it's tough if you are looking for something inside, maybe the mall walking program if you have an indoor mall. What about a park until it heats up again? Really depends on the size of your group.
  6. I think I have this one figured out for me. I was not drinking enough water and was mildly dehydrated. Once I realize what I was not doing, by the time I finish the bottle of water, my headache was gone. Worth a try. With each fill, I found myself reducing the amount of water, not on purpose, I just did not think about food and drink as often! hope this simple thing helps you too. Good luck!
  7. On the right track! Don't give up! Good luck- you can do this.
  8. What do you mean by looking for advice on how to deal with a fill?
  9. Grande fat free latte with 1/2 Splenda. 100 calories. If it's not coffee, I am drinking water. I actually have to drive 15-20 to get a Starbucks - so yes.. I would love to drink it more often!
  10. I totally believe in therapy, any good book suggestions regarding cross addiction? Says the girl who went to Starbucks twice today, and walked three miles in the mall... No shoes today..:-) I did purchase a new gratitude journal!
  11. I've found the same Gel, Starbucks. OMG if it were only closer! Shopping started from necessity, now- I think it has become too much fun, not spending- just wanting to be out of the house and looking, trying on smaller sizes. I've always loved shoes and boots- because my feet are smaller... Yikes! I don't have that many feet, for Pete's sake! At least I get steps in on my fit bit...
  12. Congrats on all your dedicated work! You look fantastic!

PDXman! I wish I could "like" twice!! Good advice!
  14. I did the same as jamilyn. I looked up what a normal bmi for 5'2" and set that as my goal. Now that I am at goal, I find I can tweek that number, and if I continue to use the protein first rule, then veggies, I feel I will go to the lower end of normal. I really would like to see if it will drop my blood pressure to a "normal level" and I can say this, I am no longer in daily chronic pain radiating from my back! What a blessing this has been! It has literally changed my outlook on life! And that's how I started the goal weight. I just refused to stress about it, as long as I was doing what I was supposed to do, the weight came off, at times slower than others- but hey, I have the rest of my life with the band...
  15. Not implying anything regarding his weight, he is complaining because I have so much food left over, I put it on his plate, truthfully, because I don't want the third degree about did I not like my food etc.., and then it looks good, so he will have more than he should. So, like I said, snap lock in my purse!
  16. My husband has gained as I loose. Not a good thing. Back to bringing a to go snap lock into the restaurant with me...
  17. Enjoy your insight, and so grateful for your sharing your methods! Love it!

  19. To the 265 people who looked at this... Where would you go? What would you do?
  20. Whale watching! A magic moment in my memory, of being at the lighthouse on Point Loma Ca., watching the California gray whales migrating to Baja California, mx. I was 12 years old. It still burn brightly in my memory, they were so close!
  21. I agree - there are awesome places all over the world, but we sometimes forget to look in our own back yards. I want to discover those unusual, fun funky, beautiful, sites sounds and smells here. I've traveled some European countries, but the USA is my focus now. I try to put together a list of interesting places where I live for family and friends when they visit- I suspect most of us do, and thought- how often do I have the chance to ask someone, an expert in their own back yard adventures?
  22. It's been years since I have been near camp Pendleton - a city itself! Maybe someone near there- San diego- could give more current info. The San Diego zoo, is world class. Balboa park and the museums are at least a weekend adventure. Torry pines hiking, the ocean is spectacular- but cold... You will have a wonderful trip!
  23. Kindle- thank you for that beautiful picture you posted! Do you see a lot of antelope & moose? How is the horseback riding?
