Molly40.P reacted to aufan in Pre-op diet revealed...
I am so excited now! I met with my WLS Dr and his Bariatric Nurse yesterday to go over the pre and post op diets. We marked my starting weight, took before photos and talked about the band. I have read everyone has a different diet per their Docs preference, and this is just me sharing my docs orders.
    Pre-Op Diet
Atkins style with high Protein, low sugar, and low carb foods only. Begin practicing the no drinking with meals and small well-chewed bites.
    Weeks 1 & 2
liquid diet "anything that I drink through a straw" but be conscious of high calorie drinks like choc milk and juices that will slow/stop weight loss. Small sips with Water as a top priority. WALK. WALK. WALK
    Weeks 3 & 4
pureed foods light yogurt or blended foods. Focus on Proteins as much as possible. WALK. WALK. WALK.
    Weeks 5 & 6
Soft, well chewed foods with the PVC balance. Proteins first followed by veggies followed by carbs. Focus on not drinking 20 mins before and after meals, chewing well, and WALK. WALK. WALK!!!

It's Swanson chicken broth 100% fat free 33% less sodium no MSG. I got it at Fry's, but I've also seen it at Walmart, good luck!

I think you need to do what you think is best for you, be it band or no band. It's your body and this is a life changing decision. If you really don't think the band is for you then don't do it.
I would like to point out something though. The majority of Lap Band horror stories you see are the fault of the patient not the band, the biggest being people walking around with their bands too tight and it resulting in a slip. Then there's the ones that chronically over eat, eat around the band, and vomit. I even met a woman who had a slip from carbonation. Unfortunately it seems the ones that holler the loudest are the ones that are having problems- you don't hear from the majority of happy band patients because they're too busy enjoying their new lives.
The band does require changes for life. If people don't change their eating habits, they won't lose, it's simple as that. Too often people go into this surgery expecting magic and that's not the case. It's a tool and it requires work.
For actual facts (not anecdotal evidence from a forum or Youtube) have a look a this link. It's a very large study on the long term success of the band: http://www.futurity.org/health-medicine/weight-stays-off-long-after-lap-band-surgery/
Best wishes on whatever you decide.

I felt the same way. I was super freaked out && I just wanted to back out of it, but trust me, I've never felt better in my life. I've only had it for two months && I wouldn't change my decision for ANYTHING. You'll be fine.

Great link. Thanks for pointing us to it.
And Molly40P: Don't feel badly. It's good that you are taking this very seriously and making an educated decision. You may just need more time for reflection. Or you may truly feel the band isn't for you. Either way, take care and give whatever path you need to take time to reveal itself.

Had my post op appointments today with the nutritionist, physical therapist, surgeon (for a fill) and did the barium swallow. Didn't really need the fill as I already have decent restriction however, I felt it could be a bit more. So far so good. Down 18 pounds and not hungry.

It was a hard day for me today. went out to dinner with my best friend for her birthday I didn't cheat. My friend was very supportive, went to the theater, it was hard not having popcorn and even harder not having a cocktail at dinner. I could of stayed home, but I wanted to test my self, and still have a good time with friends. So I did it kinda proud of myself hope things will get easier after LB. Thanks for listening.

i got chewable Centrum, they are orange and horrible! My nutritionist said for her lapband patience you dont have to take liquid. She said she would even be happy with 2 Flinstones a day plus Calcium and Iron either chewable or crushed prior to consuming. The Vitamins are gonna vary based on what ur pre testing shows u might need. Ive read all over the place that gas-x strips are very helpful. So i went and picked some up today as well as a heating pad for after surgery! I also read that people had wished they had brought a bottle of Water for after surgery car ride. Good luck!
