  1. I know that 1/2 cup portions are the standard and carbonated beverages are forbidden. I am curious about other "forbidden" foods and beverages. I am trying to educate early as my journey has just begun.
  2. I want my band now too! I have tried to lose weight for over 10 years now. In fact, I have been on a diet most of my life! I am thinking about self paying too.
  3. I am feeling you on this! I just turned 50 and decided the last 10 years are not going to be like my next 10 years. When I went to the seminar, they were "swaying" everyone to the sleeve. I don't want to get rid of a body part, I want to lose weight. I found this forum and became 100% sure before I went for my 1st appointment. She even tried to discourage me AGAIN! I told her " I am 50 years old I am the only one who makes decisions about what I do with my body! I don't rely on anyone else's filters." She gave me a blank stare as they have not given her training in how to overcome an unknown objection. I told her of this forum and the real stories of successes, struggles and support. I told her I know what to eat, what not to eat, how to poop and what to do for my gas pains etc. Again, blank stare. I am now seeking lap band surgery at another hospital as that left a bad taste in my mouth. I am determined!
  4. I just read about POOP! I love this place!!!
  5. Congrats to you! What is your pain level?
  6. I went for my 1st consultation today and it went well. Worse case scenario, I have 4 months. If my insurance accepts my previous weight loss attempts then it could be sooner. They tried to "sway" me towards other WLS but I now know 100% I want the band. It may be extra work and more office visits but I still want the band. This site has been amazing to me. She asked if I had any questions and I literally didn't have any. I shared with her my source and it really felt good. I know about the pre op, post op, fills, protein shakes, 1/2 cup of food, pain and gas in my shoulder. I learned it all here. Thank you all so much!
  7. Just curious, is oatmeal good to eat?
  8. I have so many questions and I have learned so much by reading all of the old posts. How painful was the surgery? I am planning to take a week off work, will I need more time?
  9. Thank you so much! I have an appt on Friday!
  10. Good Morning all! My dad passed away last year from ALS so I have been in counseling since his death. I was depressed last year and I sought help IMMEDIATELY. I quickly learned that I had other unresolved issues and I have been working on them ever since with no medication. Side effects have been horrible for me as far as weight gain. However, the reason I gained weight is because I quit smoking. I don't regret that but the weight has been horrible. I've tried everything to lose it and I am frustrated because its gotten worse. I like my doctor and I wanted his support but I don't need him to proceed. My doctor visits will be cut if I lose this weight. If all of his patients take control and lose weight half of his practice is gone. That is a fact... My choice is clear...
  11. So I want the lap band and I went to my primary physician to get his approval. I told him that I gained almost 90 pounds in the last 9 years and that is unacceptable for me. He wrote me a prescription for Wellbutrin and td me to come back in 3 weeks. Wait what??? Thank God my insurance does not require me to get his approval to have the procedure. Frustrating already...
  12. Good morning all! Anyone else in Cleveland, Ohio? I am starting my lap band journey and I am looking for some direction. What doctor/surgeon/hospital are you using? How long did it take?
  13. I have Aetna and I was told I had coverage up to 90%. I have been in therapy for over a year (on my own). I also have been working with a diet center too. I am PRAYING that will count for something as I just started my journey last week.
  14. I agree! Scared not to more than I am scared to...
  15. I am so ready! I am going thru a well known female surgeon that comes highly recommended. I have really just begun and I am PRAYING it does not take a long time.
  16. My last "disagreement" with my dad was 4 years ago. He was upset that I had gained so much weight. He was crying and told me it was so unhealthy. I told him he she love me unconditionally. My dad died a year ago from ALS. I know now that I MUST lose this weight as I want to be healthy, 50 AND fabulous! I am scared but I know this is the right course for me. I am a confidante for lap band surgery.
