  1. good luck! i'm on Day 6 today and yesterday was the first day my head didn't really hurt - i think it was detoxing from sugar and carbs. i'm still hungry pretty much all the time, but it feels good to get each day under my belt to build confidence that i can do it. good luck to everyone stickin out the pre-op phase together right now!
  2. i'm also on a diet that restricts meat - i wondered the same thing, but have elected to just follow my doctor's requirements so that when i show up next thurs for surgery i'm good to go. i wonder if maybe part of it is that the Protein Shake can deliver the protein in a leaner way? less calories, fat, cholesterol, etc?
  3. assuming you didn't very recently have a fill.... did you fly? i've read on here that some folks experience some tightness with their band after flying... and it sounds like it does eventually go away.

i think your daughters (and sons) have a terrific role model in their life!
  5. Happy Bandiversary! I also wanted to say how sorry i am for your loss. that is such a hard thing to deal with, and they say time makes it easier but i'm not so sure. the good news is it seems you were very self aware of the connections between your mood and your behaviors, and that's great. have fun with the nephew!
  6. oh man. Day 6 of pre-op diet and I just got my period. I want to crawl under a chocolate blanket and die.
  7. New smoothie alert: 1 scoop unjury vanilla .5 cups frozen chopped (organic) spinach .5 cups frozen (organic) raspberries 1 cup water .5 cup ice Blend and delicious. I have been looking for ways to get enough vitamin A and this breakfast shake has me most of the way there and you can't taste the spinach. I am gonna try it tomorrow with strawberry powder and a splash of lime juice in place of the vanilla.
  8. Oooh - def share your fave recipes!
  9. I was told I just couldn't gain any weight over the 4 months I met with the nutritionist leading up to insurance approval.
  10. I'm 5'6" and started at 315 (my highest ever). Started a pre pre op 3 week program to inch down calories and increase protein and exercise. On day 4 of pre op diet and have lost 9.8 lbs to date (abt 5lbs before liquid diet and rest since then). Surgery is July 11. Goal weight is 185. My doc hasn't given me a goal weight but surgeon thinks my # makes sense.
  11. Maybe some way to reward yourself every time you don't eat it? Like mark it on a calendar and if you go a week or month, etc treat yourself to something you love that isn't food related? I have a 'month without Mac and cheese and get a pedicure' deal with myself. I realize for many foods the answer is moderation but if there is one food that is your kryptonite maybe it is worth finding a reward for abstaining.
  12. Wishing you a smooth surgery and quick recovery, Vicki!
  13. The 4th will be tough. I had to cancel our annual BBQ but everyone has understood. I am wrapping Day 4 and honestly I have been hungry pretty much every second except the hour after I have broth - but it will be sooooo worth it!
  14. It is about 6 weeks for me - due to surgeon's schedule and the 4th of July holiday.
  15. I like the unjury vanilla, don't care for the chocolate and the strawberry is slightly too sweet for me. Different strokes and all I did start using my husband's Optimum Nutrition strawberry whey and it is pretty tasty in Water with a splash of lime juice.
  16. Looking fwd to hearing from those getting banded tomorrow about what it's like! Good luck y'all! Thinking good thoughts for you!
  17. Good luck! You can do it!!
  18. Not sure what your pre op diet specifies but mine allows me to make smoothies. It is essentially just my protein shake (I use unjury powder with skim milk or water) and ice and frozen fruit. I am allowed a cup of fruit/veg each day some I use some of that in my smoothie. Blend it and yum.
  19. Congrats! Tht is wonderful progress - you shld be super proud!!
  20. I am enjoying homemade smoothies in the morning. I have made 2 diff versions now: Fruity: Scoop strawberry Protein powder 1 cup frozen berries Cup of Water Cup of ice Splash of lemonade Vanilla: Scoop vanilla Protein Powder Cup skim milk Hall cup ice One of those small containers of Greek yogurt (the indiv serving size) Dash of vanilla extract Both keep me full for a while and I've never enjoyed eating breakfast an these have helped me start the day off - esp in this hot summer!
  21. My first meeting with the surgeon was early Jan and my surgery is Sched for July 11th. The length depends a lot on whether you are self pay or thru insurance (I am thru Cigna) and what requirements your insurance and surgeon have.
  22. Stay with it! I started a kind of pre-pre op diet 3 weeks before my actual 2 week pre op (which started 4 days ago) and the scale didn't move for almost 2 weeks. It was incredibly defeating - then finally it started to move. It will move again for you too!!!
  23. Sending good thoughts to @deb_believes for her surgery tomorrow! So excited for you!! Who is gets banded this week? How are folks doing on pre op diets?
