  1. I think there is some real truth in here that when we hold up a mirror to ourselves, if we're getting WLS we make poor food choices. I agree with Cassandra tho, organic food and healthful options (vegetarians, vegans, etc) can still lead people to being overweight if portions are out of control. Maybe you're including that within the poor choices - because chronic overeating is for sure a poor choice - but I don't think it's absolutely always the case that McDonald's is at the root of the problem - portion control can be the root issue as well. (all that said, i don't mean to misrepresent myself. i love fries. i've just decided i love me and the idea of being around for a long time a lot more.)
  2. well after almost 2 weeks of religiously using myfitnesspal and logging everything - plus walking at least 3x/week, hitting 80+ g of Protein, and keeping cals under 1650 (which i know is more than i'll have post-band but is still a big reduction from where i was) - i have finally lost 2lbs. the scale just wasn't moving and i was getting a little discouraged, but feeling great today! i'm steadily feeling more confident that this pre-pre-op approach will help me when i switch over to 4 protein shakes/day + 1/2 a cup of veggies. i told my manager yesterday about starting the liquid diet since we will be at a conference together and i wanted her to know why i might seem grumpy or in a funk - she was very supportive. how is everyone else with July dates doing? i know some of the early July peeps must be on/close to starting pre-op diets.
  3. i like that surgery countdown one! adding it!
  4. i found it! in Edit My Profile -> Signatures... there is an option to Create New Ticker, and then it'll walk you through making one.
  5. I've seen this in other people's posts and I'm not sure how to add it to mine...
  6. If anyone is near greenfield I would love a buddy to hit the YMCA with!
  7. Mazel tov! Terrific accomplishment and it was very helpful to read your tips to newbies.
  8. I have a serious seltzer habit. My nutritionist said that around 4 months out from surgery I could get back on the bubble - esp if it is a little bit flat. Did anyone else get similar advice? Or should I just plan to give it up entirely?
  9. Agree with the moderation advice. In addition to skinny girl drinks - tequila is also a lower calorie spirit. My nutritionist said to go incredibly slow - that a drink after banding may "hit" you a lot harder than before.
  10. Incredible! Way to go - you look fantastic! I get banded in 3 weeks and this was a great boost of inspiration.
  11. Thanks, everyone!
  12. Hi all- this may be a silly question - but for those who use a food scale (esp to measure proteins) so you weigh before or after cooking? My mother just got me a scale as a pre-surgery gift and I've never used one before.
  13. Mixed my unjury vanilla with vanilla almond milk this morning and it was delish and very smooth. Got the best mix (no grainy bits) with this than just water or with skim milk. Next time I will buy unsweetened almond milk and see how that is - this combo was kinda high in sugar carbs.
  14. I'm in Greenfield and getting banded on 7/11.
  15. Informative link - thank you!
  16. Interesting. I've never heard of it - good luck. Exciting to have a "date twin"
  17. Feeling a wee bit discouraged with my pre-pre-op diet. It has been a week and a half of subbing in a protein shake for a meal and sometimes a snack, reducing calories to 1660/day (or under) and walking 3x/week (all while hitting at least 80g protein/day). I know these goals are more cals/less exercise than I will have post/band but was hoping to step myself in the direction I'm heading. And the scale hasn't budged. I suppose I haven't gained any weight which is a good thing, but I really thought I might get a little weight loss momentum happening as I moved into liquid diet stage. Ah well. Just needed a place to vent.
  18. My surgery will be on a thurs and I'm planning to return to work that Monday - but I work from home so the commute is very easy
  19. I like vanilla the best so far. Didn't love the choc splendor and I messed up the chicken soup (Water too hot). strawberry might be a little too sweet for my taste buds.
  20. I'm finding logging with MFP has been really helpful - have used it daily for the last week and I am planning my meals better and stopping eating after dinner (and I'm a late night snacker) to stick within my intake goals. Thanks for everyone who has friended me on there!
  21. Congrats to the ladies who just got July dates! So excited we will be doing this all together!
