    In the 230's

    So exciting! Great job!!
  2. I don't think I slept long! I kept waking up and I'm typically a sound sleeper. It wasn't because I was being watched it was because of all the wires attached to me. I was afraid to move in case I disconnected something. I am still waiting for the final results.

    cold in chicago

I live in the Chicago Suburbs too and have been freezing. I wish the old saying "Freezing my butt off" were true cause I could use to loose some cushioning there lol!
  7. Every insurance policy is written differently. You will need to contact them to see if you have coverage and what their requirements are to be approved. I'm in the process right now and they require a 3 month medically monitored weight loss, a psych eval, 2 years of medically noted weight and an appointment with a nutritionist. My surgeons office takes it a step further and requires a 10% of access weight loss (for me this is 19lbs), a sleep study, a letter of support from PCP and to attend a support group meeting. All in all I'm looking at a total of 4 to 5 months before I am cleared for sugery.

    10 month post op

    Great job! You look amazing!!
  11. Hello and welcome to this amazing journey. I was very much like you thinking I could do it myself and always failing. I finally broke down to my husband in November and it was the best melt down I have ever had lol! You will learn that everyone's journey is different but here is how mine is going so far. I am 5'7 with a starting weight of 354 which makes my BMI 55. I also have high blood pressure and I'm only 32 years old!! I attended a surgical seminar in November and determined lapband was the route I am comfortable with for my body. My insurance company will cover surgery with the following requirements: 3 month medically monitored diet, 2 years of documented weight, psych evaluation and I must have the surgery with a center of excellence. They will not wave the medically monitored weight loss because of my weight or health conditions. Now that I'm in the process I understand why it's set this way. I am learning the tools I need to be successful and getting my body as healthy as possible for surgery. I located the Center of Excellence closest to my home and had my first appointment with a surgeon at the beginning of December. My surgeon also requires a letter of support from my PCP which my doctor was very supportive and sent immediately. They require that I loose 10% of my access body weight which for me is 19 pounds (I am 5'7 and starting weight was 354). I meet with their nurse practitioner monthly for the medically monitored weight loss and she set goals with me which were super easy to meet so far. 2 weeks in and I'm down 5 pounds!! I also had to have a sleep study completed which I actually just completed last night. My psych eval is Feb 1st. The 3 months are already flying by! Good luck on your journey! I'm so thankful for this site. Read as much as you can everyone is so helpful here!
  12. I am on my preop diet currently. My insurance requires a 3 month medically monitored diet and my surgeon requires me to loose 10% of my access weight which for me is 19 pounds. Good luck on your journey!

1 Year Band Anniversary and 175 pounds gone!

Congratulations Missy! Your posts are truly inspirational to me. I just started my 3 month insurance medically monitored diet. Each appointment they discuss bypass and sleeve surgeries. I tell them the same thing each time, I understand that the lapband is a tool. I am not looking for the fastest way to loose weight. I am most comfortable with lapband. I have 200 pounds to loose and to see stories like yours I know it can be done with the band.

    Had My 1st Appointment

I have been going through the same thing since my appointment. I had my surgical appointment on December 14th. I attended a seminar the prior month so I felt I went into that meeting with my mind made up that I was going to have lap band surgery. Then my surgeon starting talking about how much weight I have to loose and bypass and sleeve will offer greater results. He will absolutely move forward with lap band if that is what I decide. I have to complete a 3 month supervised weight loss so I have time to decide as well. I sway a little each day but I'm 95% sure I will have lap band. Good luck on your journey!
  18. I had my surgical consult today and it has set my mind spinning! I have a high BMI of 55. My surgeon, though absolutely willing to move forward with lap band for me, strongly suggests I consider Sleeve or Bypass. He feels I may be disappointed with my weight loss results with the band. I have been reading posts on these boards for a few months now and I have seen very few people with a starting BMI/weight as high as mine (weight is 354). My surgeons office recommends an ideal weight of 155 for me (I'm 5'7) where as I would be happy with 175. The largest results in my research I have seen with the band were in the 100lbs range. Though this is amazing that would put me at 250. I guess what is really discouraging me is all the posts on here within the last few weeks regarding failing bands and low weight loss. If I am going to have surgery I want it to give me the tool that I need to assist me. I need some inspiration from those who started with high BMI's please. The great thing is I can start the process of the supervised diet and psych eval without making my final decision so I have some more time for research on both. I will be attending support groups for those who have gone through Band and Bipass surgery to hear their stories as well. Thanks! W
  19. Hello Everyone! Today is my surgical consult! I attended a seminar with my wonderful husband on November 24th. We both realized that day that surgery was the best choice for me. My insurance requires a 3 month post op diet and if I am approved will cover 80%. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I am 5'8 and at one point 10 years ago I was able to make it to 175 on my own. It has slowly edged up to over 300 in spite of all of the diet plans I have tried. I have done Jenny Craig, Atkins, Low Calorie, South Beach, appetite suppressants and weight watchers too many times to count!! Each one would give me success only for me to gain in back and then some! My breaking point was being diagnosed with high blood pressure and for over a year not being able to conceive. My doctor attributes my infertility issues with my weight. This is why I have chosen lap band. I need to be healthy so that I am here to push my husbands wheel chair in our old age. My greatest wish is to be a mother one day and I need to be healthy in order to achieve this dream. I found this site during my lap band research and it has been a fantastic source of inspiration and questions which I will need to discuss with my surgeon. I cannot wait to start this journey! Happy Friday W
  20. Thank you everyone for responding! This helped me so much!! I can by nature second guess my decisions on anything. Even though I went in yesterday knowing Lap Band was right for me I of course second guessed my decision. I also am not comfortable with the thought of cutting into my stomach or rerouting my intestine. Congratulations to all of you and good luck on your continued journey!

  22. This is exactly what I needed to read today. I am starting over 300lbs and was concerned lap band might not give me the results I need. You are such and inspiration! Thank you!!
