  1. I am 30 and was just banded mid November. I have 5 kids and need to be healthy for not only myself but for them as well! Me and my doctor's next goal is for me to kick the cigarettes. I was surprised he allowed me the surgery since I smoke, however his reasoning was good... When we try to change to much at once, we give up on it all and don't succeed at anything! he said weight first, then my half a pack habit gets kicked in 2013!!! Love my doc!
  2. The gas pains are baaaad! I was banded last Tuesday so I am about right where you are... My doc also told me in addition to the gas pain, some shoulder pain could be from my hernia repair as it radiates up to the shoulder as well All of the suggestions from others are great and it will get better!
  3. 4 total... 3 are very small and the 4th is a little longer as its my port location
  4. Wow! That is real dedication I am doing well! One week post op today! I am feeling hungry but doing my best to ride out until my follow up and mushies!! Lol
  5. Keep the faith! Have your doctors office call and get you an appointment, they can get you in. Even though I don't have any medical advice, I can offer encouragement! Many people have to jump through hoops to get to operation day. It's another hurdle, so jump it! Maybe someone here has experienced this issue, if so, I hope they chime in with their experience
  6. I learned something new today Wasn't aware it was that common. My mom works in an OR as well and thought it was odd. Thanks for the info Cheryl!
  7. Mine is located just below my left rib cage, I wasn't given an option either... Seems to be ok so far. Only time will tell how it works out
  8. Wow, this must really be the forum for attitudes. I was shocked, but like I said, it must vary from hospital to hospital and doc to doc... Seems like almost everything with the lap band experience differs in some way or another. That wasn't an attack on anyone, just stating the reasons they don't normally allow that so the other person could be informed that it's not typical. Sorry to ruffle feathers... Damn... People need to chill... It's only a forum and nobody on this site is in high school. *stepsoffsoapbox
  9. I am shocked the nurse let you cover up with bandaids... They use electrical current tools to control bleeding during surgery, also you could swell even more during surgery and cause loss of circulation especially is fingers and toes, plus rings harbor large amounts of germs. My hospital wouldn't allow any jewelry at all, as most hospitals I know... Maybe different for laparoscopic procedures in certain places but that nurse shouldn't have allowed that and it's definitely out of the "norm".
  10. A lot of the people on here talk about Carb Cycling... Maybe someone can chime in with further detail and help out!
  11. Just checking on the most popular port location... I know all docs are different just wanted to see other people experiences with where their port is and if they were given a choice of location.
  12. I have an appt with Adam on the 28th and will ask...
  13. I can't wait to be more comfortable on the back either! I don't ride my own, mainly the reason you don't... We live in MA so riding season is short and I don't see the need lol
  14. What is the difference? I have an actual Lap Band but see some have Realize bands.... Is there a reason why?
  15. He won't love you any less, but there will be less of you to love! I have about 120 lbs to lose and was just banded. I would rather have the excess skin (i know i will have it per my body shape) and feel good and be without health issues than be fat and have health issues that would cause me not to be around for my 5 babies. They make some nice lingerie to disguise what you won't like if it helps you be comfortable while intimate... but I can promise the last thing on his mind will be excess skin
  16. CVS has their brand of adult Tylenol. Post op, I couldn't imagine having to they down tsp after tsp of children's liquid to get the recommended dose! Lol Chewable gas tablets worked for me, I didn't try the strips so I can't attest to that. I am 6 days post op and can tell you each day gets easier. Good luck and God speed!
  17. Congrats! My surgery was Nov 13th and so far so good. Let us know how it goes and good luck!
  18. I was banded just this last Tuesday FYI
  19. Take your pain meds as prescribed, don't skip doses. Push fluids as much as you can and continue to rest. Day 3 was the worst for me as well if some of the pain is from gas, walking helps as well as gas x strips. On a brighter note, day 4 got much better when I realized warm tea was my savior and became hydrated enough. Prayers for a better day!
  20. We live about 35 minutes from the office so it's a trek for us too. Congrats on your weight loss! I have found going to thrift stores to buy the in between sizes is much cheaper and I find good deals! I have yoyo'd a lot so I have a range of sizes. I'm hoping this ends the yoyo and I can maintain the loss. I am also a tall woman. I am 5' 11" so I doubt I will ever be "small". My goal is healthy, happy and comfortable in my own skin.
  21. Hey! I Do see Adam and was banded Nov 13th! I am doing well. Do you go to any of the office functions/ support groups? My husband is also a patient of Adam's, he was banded Oct 4th.
