I have been reading posts every day since I joined on Nov. 30th, but now I have to become active. I am set for surgery on December 31st. It was not planned, but i am very happy that the last day of the year is my last day in this body as I know it. i have four sons ages 3 months to 16 years. I want to watch them grow up, which is something my mother did not get to experience because of her obesity related death at 52 years old. I want to stop snoring so that I can sleep with my wife again. I want to "sleep" with my wife again instead of being so tired I have no drive. I want to play with my boys, not just sit and watch them run around. I want to do simple things like wear my pants around my waist instead of below my gut. I want to shop in clothing stores that don't have the letters X and L in their name. I want to be happy to have my picture taken and, when it is taken, I don't want to worry about how i hold my head and if my stomach is being sucked in enough. We deserve this and we WILL have this. Thank you for listening to me vent. Carry on.

The nerves are 100% normal. I go in tomorrow for my surgery & last week I was a jittery mess. The past 3 days have been great though, I'm excited and READY! Good luck on your journey!

Thanks, Desoto. I'm doing better, but this really hurts. I have a pretty good pain tolerance and this is insane. I can barely get up out of a bed, the couch, the toilet. But it's getting easier with each passing day. And I still believe this is going to be WORTH it, lol.

I got home around 1:30. Not a bad turn around... checked in at 8:00, they took me in at 10:00, back in recovery at 11:45 and out the door by 1:00.
I'm in some pain. Gas-X strips are a godsend, so make sure you get those prior to surgery. The worst pain is getting up and down.
I'll update more later, need to rest now.

Oh my, LOL... maybe I should go back and re-read my info as well, haha... too late now, I guess! My pre-op diet wasn't as bad as some of the others I've seen. At least I got to eat actual food for dinner (3-4g lean Protein, 1C green veggies, 1C fruit). A lot of people are on 100% liquids! I'm praying that I'm just not hungry for real food this first week post-band and I'm happy with my Protein Shakes & broth, lol! I think I'm all ready for tomorrow morning. I just heard the washer finish, so I'm putting my comfy pants in the dryer and heading to bed!
I'll try to check in tomorrow night.
I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your support. You have been amazing little cheerleaders & I'm SO glad I found this site and this GROUP of terrific people.

Good morning to my fellow partners in crime.
Everything went well and my new life starts today.
Very little pain, liquid diet consisted of coffee, vegetable broth, apple juice and runny jell-o.
Thanks for all the kind words and putting up with my sick sense of humor. Congrats to my fellow bandsters already done this month. Your stories of how your procedures went were very inspirational and kept me from getting cold feet.

I'll say I agree. I purposely scheduled mine when I did. It allowed me to still eat a normal Thanksgiving dinner before I started the pre-op diet. Christmas dinner has never been a huge deal for us... we open gifts on Christmas Eve (except for Santa - he doesn't come until that night so kids have to wait for morning) so everyone is more focused on that, then getting to church for the midnight candlelight service. My mom is the only one in my family who knows I'm doing this & she's arranging it where I'll end up sitting at the kids' table. None of them will notice how I'm eating, LOL. I'll start the new year off with my pretty little "belt" on, ready to kick some poundage boo-tay.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share because I am so happy! I have my am not banded yet (I have my first appointment with my suregon tomorrow), but I've been wondering what my primary doctor would say. I've only been going to my primary doctor for about 4 years now, but she has obviously talked about her concerns about my weight. She always seemed to me to be a little old school for some reason, so I always had my assumptions of her views on the LapBand in the back of my head. I went to her today because I wasn't feeling well and she mentioned how long it has been since my last physical. So I said I wanted to make an appointment for the "Dreaded physical" and she looked at me a little puzzled. I said "you're going to yell at me because I've gained the 50lbs I was down last year." She then said "No, I wouldn't yell at you for that, but I would talk you to about the health related conditions and comorbidities that come along with obesity". I then mentioned to her that I was looking into getting the LapBand (my heart was pounding at this point because I was dreading her response) and she looked at me and her face lit up! She went on the tell me how couragous it was that I was looking into doing that and she felt it was an excellent choice! She said she has many patients that have had it done and they've all had excellent results from it! She said that the surgey is becoming more and more popular to treat obesity and she fully supports me getting it done! When she said that, I wanted to cry! I was SO excited and relieved that my doctor, a medical professional, fully supported this decision from a medical standpoint, it just helped push away any doubts I had an reaffirmed for me that this is definitely the way to go! We continued to talk a little about my reasoning why I wanted to get it done and it felt great being able to openly talk to her about it! After my appointment, I called my mother, who would rather I lose weight on my own rather than to get the LapBand but stlll supports my decision, to tell her my doctors reaction and she seemed to even have felt a little more at ease for my decision.
I'm sorry if this is all choppy! I am just very excited and wanted to share with my bandster family! I figured you all would be the ones who would truly understand the significance behind this experience.

Don't beat yourself up too bad, Nancy. I was reading a blog called "The Dandy Bandy" and she talks about what she eats and when she makes mistakes. It really helped me to remember that we didn't learn to over-eat and make unhealthy choices overnight, this is going to be a learning experience as well. The Band will be there to help with that *gentle* or *not-so-gentle* reminder when we over-do it or eat something that doesn't agree with the Band. And remember, the Band will not prevent us from eating anything that we want to. So, if anyone is thinking, "oh, I have to eat that because I'll never be able to again" you can stop thinking that way right now. What the Band WILL do is allow us to eat a smaller portion than we did before. It will allow a few bites of that yummy pasta instead of the full plate. And we will be SATISFIED with those few bites for a couple of reasons. Our Band will help us feel satiated AND we will chew our food so slowly and really get to savor the taste.
Will we still make mistakes? Abso-freaking-lutely!
Will we learn from them immediately instead of 20lbs later? Without a doubt!!
Big hugs from another Houston Bandster.
