Don't expect the scales to drop every day. Some days you will even see an increase. It is all perfectly normal.
If possible, only weigh yourself once a week at the same time of the day. i.e. my official weigh in is first thing Saturday morning. Anything that happens on the scales in between just doesn't count.

I've done it. Officially banded on the 25th. I seem to be having many of the same issues everyone else is. These forums are great! I love talking with fellow bandsters, feel like they can relate. I could get kuddos one sec & a smack up the head the next! Feels like home I pray everyone continues on this successful journey.

I told my dad because I needed him to drive me home from hospital. lol. I also told 1 friend who I know would never tell a soul. I chose not to tell any of my good girlfriends. I feel it's my journey and I'm happy to keep it a secret. I've had to be creative when eating out with friends, but I make it work.

I actually told my boss today, and he was ok with it, quite supportive, in fact. So glad I don't have to lie about it to him anymore - I still hate lying to other people if they ask 'uncomfortable' questions though...!
"What operation did you have done...?"
"Did they have to remove something...?"
    "Were you away on holiday...?"
"Why don't you want any biscuits/cake/soda/whatever...?
"You're not having any coffee!? Are you sick...?"
"Why don't you come to the gym anymore...?"
One by one, I'll start telling the people closest to me, if I feel comfortable about it.
But that's still a BIG "if"....

People are generally judgemental of overweight people, and then, when they try to do something about it, they are judged for the method they choose...
I've also decided to keep it a secret, and shared it only with three people. But, I must be honest, the lies are KILLING me! I try to avoid the subject altogether so as to not to have to explain anything.
I supposedly went for a 'prolapsed uterus', which explains the laparoscopic insicions and absence from work. Of course I'm on a diet for my weight; my diet is simply based on 'portion control'; I'll be hitting the gym soon, and then I'll have more reason for the weight melting away.... and that's my story, and I'm sticking to it! :-)

Thanks so much guys! I'm so glad I belong to this forum, seeing that I've opted to keep my banding a secret, I've no-one else to talk to, and here I have a wonderful group of friends that understand where I'm coming from and what I'm going through - hugs to you all!
I really do feel much better today, and I've lost another kilo, so I'm smiling all the way!

Understandable but there has to be girls out side of them that could feel those needs.

Ok i know this is a guy thread but just a personal thought..
Why would you want to go for them? You werent good enough for them when you were bigger so why should they get to get with you just cause your smaller? Your still the same person just a smaller version. No offense but sounds like a bunch of shallow bi#c#es!

I told my husband.... he told everyone else... but I came to embrace it. The support I received was overwhelming. And it kept me honest.... no answering about why I gave up diet coke.. or why I was eating 2/3 of my dinner while out with friends. I was so excited about it I wanted to share with others.
Fast forward.... just a few pounds from goal I'd like to get paid for the amount of people I have told. But I am not an actress or sports start so I guess LapBand doesnt need my 2 cents! LOL

    Haven't had a date in 10 years.

In reading these responses, I'm just tickled to see how everyone handles their band differently!
I am a little over a year post op. I date. And I haven't told anyone anything. I am 39, and have scars from a gall bladder removal, a C-section and my lapband. No one has asked about my scars. And when I go out, I just say "I'm eating light." So I have a house salad with mashed potatoes or something that won't get caught up in my band and I won't slime on.
My band is a private thing for me. I've only told 5 or 6 people in the entire world about it! There's no way I'd tell a guy I'm just starting to date. I haven't figured out how to address it with a serious partner, but it would be months into the dating. Probably when he asked to see my family albums and "fat Nat" showed up. *laugh*

Wow, that was really brave! Im conciously not dating at the moment, I'm only 2 months post op and I want to really concentrate on this at the moment but it is something I've thought about.
When is the right time to tell. Does it really matter, can you leave it too late to say? I've spoken to a friend of mine about this who'se had her boobs done and see when she brought it up with her fiancee. She said she didnt feel comfortable to talk about it till she knew he was going to be serious and that was fine as everyone has a few things that they don't go screaming from the rooftops about anyway and I figure she's right. It's just that I'm so sensitive about this band right now I didn't even see it like that. The way I'm looking at it I'm not going to make it a big deal, if a situation arises I'll be honest but if not I don't think I'll tell until I know its serious. As for dinner dates I'd stick to Soups and pretend I'd had a late lunch!

I was 2 weeks post op - just started mushies, when I was asked by a guy to go to dinner. Hahaha! There was no way I could get away with not saying anything, and I definitely didn't want to postpone and have him interpret it some other way...so I told him a couple of days before the date..he's a big guy and he was actually really interested in the band for himself! But we went to dinner, he knew he'd probably have to eat most of my dish, I had fish and flaked it really well and I had a great date. My life isn't stopping because of this....it's just getting started!
The best part was later during the show I was drinking Water and he leaned over and said "don't overdo it, you might be full" (on water)...the same level of humor I had with the whole event - perfect!
And, if they don't like it - their not worth it...we all have our "stuff" - at least we are proactively getting a handle on ours!
    Good luck!

I hear you, I am having surgery on the 8th, and until my date was set the only people that knew were my husband and my boss (we are very close-2 person office). Since I have my date, I have told my daughter (grown) and my parents. I dont' want to hear the stories, good and bad and don't need to hear other people's opionions. This is a private decision. Don't feel guilty about your decision.
