It's none of their business if you don't wish to tell them. Some people tend to be critical of WWS. Some feel like we took the easy way out. Needless to say that have no clue that this just helps curb the appetite. We have to do everything everyone else trying to lose weight has to do.
I eventually told some people but saw no need to share with some others.
BTW I had the band. best of luck to you on your journey.

Terri, I agree, it's a good way to clean out your system and start anew. I like to use the 5-day pouch test. http://www.5daypouchtest.com/
I can drop a quick 3-5 lbs and start anew in 5 days. It's not too painful and works. It's designed for Bypass patients and not banders so don't let the pouch term fool you. This 5 day test is a real shocker for your system and like I said before, we need it sometimes.

    How long has it stalled?
I agree with Cheryl. Mix it up. Exercise and diet sometimes needs a shake-up.
If you lost 2 lbs in one day it's probably not fat, it's fluids you're losing even if you're consuming fluids. I'm not a big fan of liquid diets. It's like not being banded. You're not using the tool at all. The scale may dip for a few days but once you go back to solids, the weight will come back.
Are you exercising? Put in some serious exercise and do it consistently if you want to drop some fat.
Just remember, you have to burn 3500 more calories than you consume to burn off 1 lb of fat. I've seen many folks here say they were successful in kicking aside their stall/plateau by upping their Protein intake. And, I mean solid Proteins.

I think that's why I don't tell everyone. I feel like they would judge me saying it was the easy way out. I don't think people understand the commitment it takes. I just sometimes feel guilty. Then people always ask me to help them. So I just tell them what I do without saying the band part.

I am very excited about this idea! I have not had a support group to be part of at all since surgery. There is one in my town but after attending three meetings I found there was no structure to them at all all it was was basically a gossip session. What I was looking for was encouragement. Advice on what to eat or not eat. Work out support and so on .
I hope there will be one close enough for me to be a part of. My dr is almost 3 hrs from here so I don't go to those it's too far.

Hey y'all, thought I would share a recipe that is really easy, simple and delicious! I know some lap banders can't have shrimp and some can. I have been fortunate. I have 7.5 or 7.75cc in a 10 cc band and can still eat everything. I just take my time and chew!
2 servings raw shrimp (I used Sea Queen medium shrimp from aldi)
1 tbs yogurt butter spread (Brummel and Brown)
1 tbs minced garlic (can be adjusted to taste)
    juice from 1/2 lemon
    2 tbs Parmesan cheese
    Cooking spray
Heat a skillet over medium heat and spray with cooking spray. Melt the butter in the pan and add the garlic and cook for about 2 minutes. Add shrimp in a single layer and squeeze the half a lemon in the pan over the shrimp. Cook shrimp until opaque about 4-5 minutes on both sides. I served mine over a 1/4 cup steamed broccoli sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. It is delicious!
It's 153 cals per serving with 5 fat 2.5 carb and 21 Protein.
    Enjoy!!

Nice post....too often there are people here frustrated, feeling like failures, when they are only within the early adjustments phases of this process.....sometimes only a WEEK!
They need to know that given time, all things will level out and then the true weight loss journey, and new life begins.....

Terri_121 reacted to Sharpie in a year ago.....things were so difficult
a year ago I was getting prepared for my surgery.. I had 2 weeks of pre-op diet to do.. I started right after Christmas... I was so ready ..
My weight was at it's highest ever.. @ 5' 0 " tall I weighed 200 lbs.. I was steadily ruining my health.. My diabetes was out of control, My blood pressure was climbing daily and I could not walk, or do anything physical without pain in my back and knees. I lived in my recliner. Most days I ate myself into oblivion and slept in my chair.. I would walk back to my office (in my home) and do what I had to but that was my only exercise... Today, I have lost almost 60 lbs.. I am so happy about the Holidays this year.. I have shopped in every Mall and Walmart in our area.. walking all day with my grandaughters who are 18, 14 and 8... This past week I went to San Antonio with my oldest grandaughter to see her boyfriend graduate from basic training @ Lackland AFB.. it was bitterly cold and we walked everywhere.. I could never have done that a year ago... The band works folks, if you work it... I have some more lbs to lose and I am staying on track but I am truly happy today after many years of being miserable... I wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy Christmas and New Year.. My New Year's resolution will be to keep doing what I am doing and add some more walking and encourage my family to get healthy....

I pretty much begged my family to go out and eat without me. Or I would have my husband bring food home for him and the kids and I would go out for a walk while they had dinner. It's all a mind game. Sounds like you will be on solids much quicker than I was anyways so lucky you!!

I was too afraid of what could go wrong if I did not follow the rules. Never once did I think of eating or drinking something that was not on my list. I knew post-op was not forever. Maybe try a little harder. Do something that takes your mind off of food. 2 weeks after getting the band, I was still on liquids, it was my brother's birthday. He is mentally challenged and doesn't know about the band, I took him out for a steak dinner and had a glass of iced tea. I watched as he ate, my husband ate and you just do what you have to do. Suck it up.

Terri_121 reacted to B-52 in Average Fills to Green Zone????
Depends upon your Dr. and how aggressive He/She is, and how you react to moving fast or slow....
I know someone whose Dr. only puts in 1/2 cc per visit, per month...at that rate one year would be 6cc's.....she felt he was milking the insurance and went to a different Dr...got on track real quick...and started meeting her goals much to her pleasure.
But to answer your question, I had 3 fills...the first was 4cc's, 2nd was 2cc's, and the 3rd...was 1 cc....
Each fill was one month apart, so it took me a little over 3 months.....and don't get me wrong, it was not easy during those first few months...a lot of adjusting and behavior modification...but I have not had a fill since, and that was over 2 years ago....
And everything became as easy as can be about 6-8 months after surgery.

PB is different than vomiting because there are no stomach fluids mixed with the food. It's just the food coming up from your pouch and looks just like what you swallowed. The sliming comes first and means you better go to the bathroom. I think the slime is your body trying to lubricate the food to go down but once I start sliming I cough once and my pouch empties into the toilet. People have different experiences. For some it's really painful and they can't eat for a day or so but it's not like that for me--however, I've only PB'd twice and I don't have adequate restriction yet so I'm no authority. But this is just my take on PB'ing and sliming. Good luck on your journey!

Sometimes you will feel it in your chest. Sometimes you will feel that your stomach just can't take anymore food. Sometimes you even hiccup. If you overeat you will PB after you start to get fills. As far as eating just to eat, you can certainly eat around the band so you'll have to be careful. Eating several meals a day is not a good idea. You should be able to go hours without eating if you have the right fill level. I can only eat 1/4 cup of food at a time. Sometimes just 1oz of Protein. The key too is to eat solid protein first. It keeps you fullest the longest. Once you get on solids that will be important. Soft Proteins like cottage cheese go through the band faster and will not keep you satisfied as long. Good luck.

Janet, there is a definite difference in how your body feels being full with a band, and being full without. If you overeat with the band in place, the food backs up into your esophagus, which hurts! That is the feeling in the chest people are getting. Continuing to do that can do damage, so you learn not to eat enough to cause that. It is aversion therapy. It hurts, so your body learns to tell you not to do that again.
I never noticed it before, but in hindsight, I know it has always happen---but I get soft stop signals. They tell me I am reaching my limit---to stop eating. For me, my nose gets sniffly, it means I am full. I imagine it is something to do with the same trigger that causes us to "slime" if we do overeat, or get stuck. I have also pushed it to a point of giving myself hiccups!
I have really tried---and it has not been easy---it is a lesson still in progress, to learn just to eat until I am no longer hungry, and forget about what is or isn't "full". In my house, there is not going to be any problem with going hungry. I know if I stop, and I do happen to get hungry in a little while, I can always find something to eat. And without fail, when I stop---I find myself satisfied. And comfortable.
None of us knew how to work with this little silicone buddy of ours before we got it, and each of us has found our own way of learning, and dealing with it on a daily basis---so will you! It is a scary thing to think of learning to do differently and learning to do without. I do not do well with deprivation---I was really scared! I was losing a good friend in my food I thought. In reality, I did not lose my friend, I just see less of it! And since I can eat anything, I am not feeling deprived. I know I could have lost more faster if I dieted with my band, but I knew myself better than that!!! If dieting were something I did well, I might not be here!
When you get your band, you will learn your signals, and adjust your lifestyle around them. And until you figure it out, we are always here!!!
Alfie---what kind of whey did you order? Is it a Protein powder?

Almost all Lap-Band patients develop a new "Full Signal" or "Soft Stop" sign.
"What is a "Soft Stop" and what will my "Soft Stop sign be?" I wish I could answer that, but I can't. My experience is that it took me some time to recognize that that funny little hiccup was a stop sign. I don't even recall how long it took me to figure it out. What REALLY messes me up is when my body tricks me by substituting another sign for my hiccup. Many a PB followed when that happened, so now I look for ANYTHING different. A feeling of fullness, stuffiness, a runny nose, a hiccup or hiccups, watering eyes... ANYTHING that's different!
