@@ivyh are you taking a steroid like prednisone? If you are on something like that it could be the meds that are making you more hungry as well as putting weight on you. Certain anti-depressants and even NSAIDS can cause Water retention etc.
Don't give up, keep pressing Dr.'s to find out what's going on with you and see if they can find a medication that works with your weight loss goals but keeps you feeling good. The most important thing is your health so don't stress over the weight gain too much right now, light a fire under the Dr
Try to if you can manage it to break up your meals into smaller more frequent portions so you feel like your eating something every few hours but keep your portions in check and that might help. I had to have Fluid removed recently and that is what is getting me through. Having something every few hours, and I have actually lost 4 pounds!
Feel good and let us know what your Dr.'s say.

Ivy, sending best wishes your way -- sometimes it seems like these human bodies are just bags if chemicals. I'm glad you're aggressively seeking medical attention. Twenty-five years ago I put on fifty pounds in a couple of weeks. In my case it was a reaction to IV steroids. Got off the steroids but it took years to recover and I put on more weight. Could not drop at all until I got my band, so happy about that. Take good care, don't panic -- I find writing notes before and after doctor's visits helps me give them the details they need. And come here anytime -- it's why we are all here, to support each other.

ivyh reacted to gowalking in Is anyone having success and enjoying their banded life?
Well, let's see...before I was banded, I was morbidly obese and my joints were so bad that I was looking at living the rest of my life in a wheelchair. I was already using a cane and walking was getting more and more difficult. I tried to diet with not much luck yet again and finally hit rock bottom and decided to get banded because my pain management doctor told me I would need knee replacement and was at that time, too overweight to have a good outcome.
I was very very fortunate. I was banded in January 2013 and followed the post op instructions almost to the letter and had no issues. I could not exercise so I made sure to do my best to stay under 1,200 daily calories. I lost enough weight in six months to become eligible for surgery. Everyone thought it would take at least a year for that to happen but it was a good thing I lost quickly because I had found out that I needed both hips replaced even before the knees. This was devastating news to me but I moved forward as I had no choice and had bi-lateral hip replacement surgery in October.
As most of you know, it was a very hard surgery and a long and difficult recovery but I am almost a year out and the quality of my life has improved a thousand fold. I can walk fine now and the cane sits in the corner of my bedroom to remind me of what was. I will not need a wheelchair because my pain is a fraction of what it used to be. I couldn't walk a block without having to stop because of the pain and now I'm planning a trip to China next year with my sister because my sister-in-law is moving to Beijing for a year and The Far East has been on my bucket list for the longest time. I never thought I'd be healthy enough to make this trip but I know now that I can.
The band has saved my life. Without it, I might be dead and that's not being dramatic, it's being truthful. I also have to say that I was not in a good frame of mind when I was banded. I expected to fail in this as I had failed in all other weight loss attempts but it worked for me just as it was supposed to. It didn't stop me from making bad choices or being hungry. It eased my hunger just enough to make good choices and to not overeat.
Also...as I noted, I was morbidly obese. I needed to lose more than 100 lbs. and my primary doctor said I'd not have success with the band because I needed to lose so much weight. I'd never leave my PCP because she is an excellent doctor but I must say that it gives me great satisfaction to say that I am thinner than she is now.
I know that there are many people who do not do well with the band but you asked for success stories and I'm the poster child for success with the band and getting back a quality life again. To say I've been reborn is no exaggeration.

ivyh reacted to BandedInBama in Starting from scratch... But with a WAY better attitude this time!
Hi everyone! My name is Melissa. I was banded by Dr. Zapata in Monterrey, Mexico back in the spring of 2010. This is a bit long, but I gotta get it out... Maybe it'll help people who end up in my situation. Who knows?
Unfortunately, I went into the surgery with a HORRIBLE attitude. I just sat back and expected my band to do ALL of the work for me without me actually making any changes. If I ate too much or too fast, I just threw it up. No big deal, right? Of course... I wouldn't even admit that to myself. I for the LIFE of me couldn't figure out why I was sick EVERY SINGLE TIME I ATE!
In spite of all of that, I DID manage to lose about 60 pounds, but... Because of the vomiting (that again, I just couldn't make sense of) my band was ultimately drained and I was diagnosed with gall stones and had my gall bladder removed to help with the constant sickness. Lo and behold, I had my gall bladder removed last Thanksgiving (2013) and the vomiting didn't even slow down. Stress made it worse. I'm currently in nursing school and I WAY know about stress.
We had finals a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't focus to study because I was literally throwing up everything I put in my mouth. So... To try to take my mind off of my stomach pain and puking, I switched myself to a liquid diet. That lasted from Saturday night until my final Wednesday morning. Amazingly, I felt a lot better. I wasn't throwing up. My constant sinus pain-- apparently the result of reflux while I was sleeping that was burning my sinus cavity-- vanished. I DID NOT DO THE liquid diet FOR WEIGHT LOSS. Remember? I was in denial. My band was just broken. It did nothing. Who the heck knew why I always threw up? Maybe I had stomach cancer... (LOL I swear I'm not usually so melodramatic)
When I started eating solids again, I was reluctant. I felt a lot better and was kinda sad to think I'd be giving it up. So I did was professional students do. I researched. Guess what? People who don't respect their WLS and don't change their habits tend to have the issues I was having. A more. And giving my banded stomach time to heal with no puking allowed my band to actually make its presence known. So, I figured what the heck...
I started back like I had just had surgery. Soft foods eaten slowly. No drinking with meals. Smart food choices. You know.... All the stuff I was meant to do the FIRST TIME around. And holy crap, it's like I've actually had WLS. Even with an unfilled band. I have restriction. I'm content with a cup to a cup and a half of food. I haven't thrown up in weeks. I've lost 20 pounds. Head hunger exists. I don't like it, but I can cope. Because dang it, I paid for this surgery and even if it was 4 years ago I'm gonna get my money's worth!
So, that's where I stand. That's my story. And I'm back. And this time, dang it, I'm gonna do it right!

My body is retaining Fluid. I eat healthy I just have no restriction. Plus everyone said eating 51 pounds of food in 12 days is nearly impossible and you would have to do nothing all day. I work out and eat healthy.

Just be sure to get in enough Protein so that the weight that comes off is Water and fat. I'd recommend no sugar and no carbs for your liquid diet. Take multi-Vitamins every day.
I'm no expert on liquid diets. I've only been on one for 4 days and only once so I can't imagine 2 weeks(some here have gone 6 weeks ). Good luck!

Thanks for the feed back! I should have noted that I put on 51 pounds in 12 days of which is mostly Water weight this was about a week and half ago maybe 2. I have lost about 10 pounds and I am also on meds to help the water weight come off but I figure the liquid diet would also help speed the process up.

Okay so I have had my lap band 20 months. I got down to 168 but had some health problems and put on weight most of it was Water weight but I had to get my band unfilled so some of it wasn't. I am wanting to get back on track and get back down to where I was because after putting the weight back on I finally figured out what I wanted my goal weight to be.
I would like to start by doing a liquid diet but I cannot remember the diet I was on before my surgery. I lost 18 pounds in 2 weeks and would like to try to do that again. If anyone can give me suggestions on what your liquid diet was it would be greatly appreciated=)
    Thanks!

ivyh reacted to TexasDy in Use your past success to push you towards your next goal!
    Hi everyone,
It's so comforting to be back here. I haven't been on BariatricPal since it was called LapBandTalk!! It's been a long and emotional journey, to say the least. But I'm here, ready to give support and receive the support I desperately need!!
I had Lap Band surgery June 22, 2012. I found out I was pregnant just 3 short months later. Just enough time to get used to the new eating habits but not enough time for them to truly be habits. I still lost while pregnant. Even with the pregnancy taking the majority of my first year, at my Bandiversary, I was down 76lbs. Now, another year later, I'm up 8-13lbs from that depending on the day.
I'm still very proud of my overall progress but so frustrated that it's been 2 years and I should be at goal!! And that I can't get passed this hump!
So here's my current motivation... hopefully it can help you too!
We all have that next size down jeans/dress hanging on the wall (mine is in my kitchen!) to help motivate us to continue losing. And we all know it doesn't really work.... Well, my husband bought me some incredible motivation yesterday (his birthday). He picked me up from work (we carpool on Tuesdays) and said "open the trunk" and there was a big, thick, beautiful leather motorcycle jacket!! AND IT FIT!!! The motivation comes from the SECOND item he brought me... CHAPS!!!
I was/am so thrilled!! I tried them on and they're about an inch and a half from fitting around my thighs. And that's ok! It's just what I needed to get off my ass and stop feeling so down about not being where I think I should be and doing something about it.
Today is about celebrating how far I've come and reminding myself that I have reached so many goals already that this next one isn't that far away!!
So to encourage all of you when you're down - REMEMBER HOW FAR YOU'VE COME!! Whether you are at goal, are only 1/2 way there like me, or are starting to gain a little... Don't give up! You are amazing!
    Love you all.

Buy Tofu cheese, it's tasteless really, and packs a real big punch on protein. I have an excellent choice for you....Buy Fage Greek yoghurt total 0 (pronounced Fa-yeioo) and with one cup it has 23 grams of protein. It tastes "very greeky" bland but add vanilla or caramel cofee syrups, sugar free and its very graceful masquerading the bland taste, it will increase your protein thru the roof!!
    Hope it helps

I eat 2 hard boiled eggs for Breakfast. It's 12 grams of Protein. Also, you can beat eggs and pour in a muffin tin, add bacon, ham, or turkey sausage, Any veggies you like and a bit of cheese. Cook until light brown on top. Very high protein and easy to heat up in the morning. About one egg per muffin and I use the Reynolds foil muffin wraps because it helps with sticking.

I've had the band for 10 years, my best weight loss was 46kg which was pretty close to my goal, I had to travel a long way for my fills and unfills and got quite frustrated with the whole thing. I'm not sure how you guys have your fills, but I told my fill provider that I wanted her do access my port whilst I was stood up. Once she was in I glugged a bottle of Water whilst she filled. Once I felt the water stop and start to back up I told her to stop and withdraw the Fluid bit by bit, once I felt the water trickle through I told her to stop. That's how I found my sweet spot :-)

So I ended up going to a PCP and they told me that I more then likely malnourished. So that and the rapid weight loss put my body and shock. They still are not clear on what is causing the swelling but once that is figured out they said the weight will come off as quick as I put it on.
Such a relief having someone believe me and give me some type of answer!=)

Today should be an exciting day for me I hit my first goal weight! But instead I am so nervous that I might be bulimic. I do not spit up every time I eat but I do 98% of the time which I know is not good. I don’t force it up I just bend over the toilet and it comes right out. I go to the doctor in August (cant go before then bc of work) and I plan on talking to him about it then I just want to get others peoples opinions and see if this has happened to anyone else.

Also I've noticed that some mornings I wake up and feel like something is stuck and when it finally comes up it is black! Anyone ever experienced this?

With the amount of weight I have lost I do have some lose skin. But it is really only in my arms, my stomach does not look bad. It shows that I worked my butt off to get where I am at! If someone doesnt like my arms they dont have to look and if they are looking I am just going to tell them...thats what it looks like to lose a whole person!!!
I am so happy with where I am at right now and I am glad I sat back and thought about it! I hope everyone else has the same way of thinking, we have came a long way and who cares if you have some sagging skin it just shows the dedication we have to get where we are at=)
