    Mushie Stage Woes

MM. Do you think that some of that could be muscle mass from working out so much? Muscle weighs more than fat, so maybe that's what's slowing you down, making you gain??? Just a thought.:cry:cry:cry Jackie

Thanks FaithMD!!! I hope I didn't screw anything up. I've been doing so well, following everything to the "T". I will get some of that Apple Prune juice tonight instead of the stool softener. My DH had the surgery also and he's having the same problem. Maybe I should buy a case of the juice!!!! :rolleyes:rolleyes Thanks again, Jackie

Hello to everyone!!! Looks like we have one last bandster today and we're all on the other side in BANDLAND!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!! :help::help:Sorry for the personal question, but has anyone had to have their hernia sutured and it still hurts? I was banded June 11 and yesterday I tried to have a BM. I am only going about once every 5-7 days. I had to strain a little and now it's a sharp pain between my breasts. It hurts more than anything I've been through with the surgery. Could this be my hernia or where the band is? Any comments would be VERY welcome. I'm a little worried. I did decide to go tonight and buy some stool softener. I think I'm going to have to take that for awhile. Thanks, Jackie

I haven't been on here for about 4 days. I just got a job working 2nd shift and it's kickin' my butt!!! My surgery went very well and so did my husband's. I got sick from the phenergan they gave me post op so I wasn't real coherent till about midnight that night (had my surgery at about 11:30 a.m. I think). Hubby was up and walking in the hallways at 4 p.m. or so. (he had his surgery at 10:30 a.m.). I was up from 2 a.m. till the morning off and on, walking the hallways about every 2 hours. The only real pain I had post op was my port incision (the pain is just uncomfortable, not really painful) and my hernia repair. It was so bad they had to stitch it up and I had more pain with that than anything else. Some gas pain in the shoulder too. Had to sleep sitting up on my sofa for the first 2 to 3 nights because it hurt to lay down. Hubby slept in bed from first night. He did so much better than me. I'm just a big baby I guess!! We've both lost about 43 pounds since May 20, when we first saw the dietician and started the pre-op diets. We have to go back to see the doctor in a month and I guess that's when he decides if we need a fill or not. We started on pureed/blenderized foods just this past Tuesday. It's okay I guess. I'm still eating Soup and drinking Protein drinks. I did have some mashed potatoes Tuesday and Wednesday and thought I had died and went to heaven!!!!! I've never really cared for mashed potatoes, but these were heavenly!!!! Tonight I'm fixing homemade mashed potatoes with blenderized chicken and dumplings. We'll see how that goes. It sounds yummy, I hope it is!! I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!:) Did the doctor say how long it would take for the approval once they sent everything in to the ins. company? I know it seems like forever, but let me tell you, once you're approved things move so fast it'll make your head spin. At least that's what happened with us. I love my band!!!!! I actually feel like I have an ally against food for the first time in my life. I don't regret the surgery one bit!! Best thing I've ever done for myself, and also learning of better, healthier things for me to eat. Type to ya later, Jackie

2bhealthyagain-Glad you're back home and doing well. I'm with you on watching the food channel. I've been avoiding it like the plague. BUMMER!!! Maybe some day I can watch it again....maybe....I've been watching a lot of HGTV. My house and yard needs fixing up so I switched to that channel. I've gotten a lot of good ideas so far, now I just need the money to do the stuff I want to do!!! LOL!!! Again, congrats on being in Bandland!!!

Toni-Thanks for the support. I am counting the days till I can have mushies. I'm just afraid I won't remember to chew, chew, chew and eat slowly. I'll be so excited to be eating REAL food!!! So sorry to hear about your headache and dry heaves. That must have been so painful for you. I'll be praying for you. Hopefully you can talk to your nurse soon. Suzzzie-I'm not getting all my protein, but I'm taking calcium and multivitamins. I've been chewing gum so it hasn't been too bad. Old habits die hard and I'm just afraid I'll go "hog wild" before I realize what I've done. So sorry to hear about your pain. Sounds like you still need to take it a little easier at work. Lucy-Sorry to hear about your ankle. Hope it's better soon. I fell and sprained my ankle 5 or 6 years ago and it's not been right since. It's still weak. Hopefully losing weight will help. I didn't even think about that until you mentioned it. Thanks! LauraG-My diet is pretty much like Beckiet's diet. Wonder why yours is so strict? I think I would question my doctor on it. EVaughn-I said a prayer for all you bandsters today. Hope you're all doing okay. LaughingBird-When I made cream of wheat the first day after being home from the hospital, I didn't eat slow and I ate about a cup of it. My stomach felt like it was going to explode-literally-until about 5 or 6 that night. I couldn't eat or drink anything until then. Needless to say I haven't done that again!!! Becks477-If you're exercising you're building muscle and that weighs more than fat. Maybe that's what is going on. You should take your measurements then if you haven't lost weight you can remeasure yourself to see if you've lost inches. BigSexy-You can do it!!! I think we've all had these feelings at some point, I know I have!! I think having the surgery so you can be around for years for your sone is a WONDERFUL reason to do this!! Keep that in mind and keep us posted on your progress. LoveliBabi21-Good luck tomorrow!! See you in Bandland!!! Amcmh95-Congrats on getting your date!! Welcome Vicky!! Hope all is going well for you!! Holliwagz-Glad to hear you're doing okay for the most part. O2bthin-Glad you're back and all went well. 5 MILES THE DAY AFTER SURGERY!!??!! YOU GO GIRL!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! Stefanie42467-I had a feeling the doc might take your bandages off. Good for you. I know how they were bothering you. I had my fingers crossed that he would take them off when you saw him. I wish I could have gotten pics with my band on my stomach and of my liver. I'm jealous! LOL!!! TMC-Sounds like you're doing wonderfully!! Great weight loss. Glad to have you here. Keep us posted on weight loss and such. Captain-KUDOS TO YOU!!! 54# LOST!! YOU GO GUY!!! As for sleeping-I slept half sitting and half slouched on the couch with my feet and lower legs on the coffee tabel for 3 or 4 nights, then slept on my side with a pillow to support stomach or on my back. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! Juleeann & KimberlyNYC-Good luck to both of you and welcome! Let us know as soon as you can how everything went for both of you!! Adventure-rider-Welcome and congrats on your surgery. My bloatedness lasted for a little over a week. I really didn't do anything for it. (I don't know if there's anything you can do for it). You have a good sense of humor-I have a feeling we're going to need that in the future!! My hump day, so to speak, was yesterday. I was still having a lot of pain in my shoulder and chest (from hernia stitching) and halfway through the day, everything just quit hurting. Kind of made me feel weird, like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop or something, but today was good too. WOOHOO!!! Hope it's all passed. Hope all is well with everyone! P.S. Sorry for the long post. I haven't been on for a few days. I had to catch up with everyone. LOL!!

I'm on full liquids. My DH and I have been on them since June 6 and we have to be on them until June 26. We had to do 1200 calorie for 2 weeks, then full liquids 5 days before surgery. We have to continue full liquids for the 2 weeks after surgery, then 2 weeks of pureed, blenderized foods, then 2 weeks of soft foods, then slowly on to regular foods again. I don't know if I'll be ready for that!!! I'm sooo scared of getting something stuck... Anyone else feel like that? Jackie

    Thanks Nina- Sounds absolutely YUMMY!!!!:hungry:
  12. You all are too much!!!! How ironic I found this thread today of all days. My DH and I had surgery 2 hours apart on June 11, about a week ago. Shared the same room at the hospital and all. All the nurses and workers thought that was a REAL hoot-a co-ed hospital room!!!! That was a first for them!! Anyway, to get to my point...DH and I went to our post op appt today with doctor and after the appt., DH mentioned that we forgot to ask the doc about how soon we can have sex, and I piped up and said, "I wasn't gonna ask him, you ask him!!" Then we both laughed. Well this afternoon one thing led to another and we were both fine afterward. Sorry if this is too much info. I didn't swallow either so I can't tell you about that, but neither one of us are sore at port site or anywhere else.....:embarassed::embarassed::embarassed: Jackie

Hi all. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm so excited. DH and I went in to one of our favorite pizza places today for lunch. (they also have the best Soup in town). When we walked in it smelled soooooo good!!!! All both of us had was a bowl of cream of broccoli soup, and we just had the cream broth part, none of the other stuff. That soup was sooo good though compared to the canned stuff we've been eating and the chicken and beef broth. I just had to share this with everyone. Today is the first day we've been in a restaurant since our surgeries. Suzzie-I didn't drive for a week and I think that was a good decision seeing how your little trip turned out. I drove today for the first time and it felt weird, but good. YES, I'M BORED TOO!!!! I've noticed the grilling smells also. I really miss that about this part of the eating. We used to cook A LOT on the grill, even in the winter. DH and I were just talking the other day saying when we can start soft foods, we're going to get some fish and grill it. YUM!!!!:hungry::hungry: Congrats Big Baby-Welcome to the other side. Hope all is well with you. Stefanie42467-DH and I went to our post op appt with the doctor today. He wanted to see our incisions and when DH lifted up his shirt, the doc started removing the strips on his incisions. Then he did the same to me. A couple of mine started to bleed, just barely so he put a bandaid on them. One of DH's bled a bit too, and a bandaid was applied to his too. We were really shocked that he did that because he told us to let them fall off by themselves too. He probably saw how icky they looked and figured we'd be better with them off. The incisions were scabbed over for the most part except for the tiny bleeding. Boy they looked a lot better than I thought they would after looking at the strips that were on there. Maybe your doc will take yours off when you go in this week. Laura G, MaryLou-I called my nurse and she suggested Milk of Magnesia for the constipation, that did the trick for me. Nina S-I was thinking of doing the exact same thing with the roast, but in a crock pot, then blenderize. How did yours turn out? Was the meat in small pieces, stringy? Easy to chew? bcrazy7-Glad you're doing okay. I had the exact opposite problem-constipation. Are you getting in any Protein? I think that would help with your problem. Laura G-I might be getting 500 calories if even that and I'm allowed pudding, popsicles, Jello, juices, cream soup (broth only), cream of wheat, etc and I'm just not hungry enough to eat that much. I had to have my hernia stitched up too, and that has given me more problems than any of the incisions, etc. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with my not eating that much. quadmom-WAY TO GO!!!!!:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: What's your secret??(I mean besides taking care of your kids? That would probably do it alone!! LOL!!) GOOD LUCK TO ALL BEING BANDED TOMORROW!!!! Hi Toni-How ya doing? Jackie

It's been awhile since I posted-I've been trying to keep up with all the new posts though. This forum is on fire!!!! Pippz-Your post-op experiences sound just like mine. I was banded the 11th and I am still feeling a little gas in my left shoulder. I also had lost of pain in my chest-don't know if that's normal for everyone or because my doctor had to stitch up my hiatal hernia because it was so bad! If you have a heating pad, use it where the gas pains are-that REALLY helped me A LOT!! I'm glad to know the feeling of having to burp but can't is normal, man, that REALLY hurts. Does anyone know what that's from? HopefulLoser-Get some Milk of Magnesia for constipation. That's what my nurse suggested when I called after not haveing a BM for 5 days. I got some and took it and 4-5 hours later I went and have been going on my own since then. Quadmom-I got banded the same day as you and I totally understand the nugget. I just want to CHEW something so bad. I tried gum and that's helped a bit, but I'm so sick of soup and broth....The small amount, and if you chewed well, shouldn't hurt you. Just put it behind you. You're doing awesome!!! AND WHAT IS IT WITH ALL THE FOOD COMMERCIALS ON TV???? NO WONDER WE ALL HAVE A WEIGHT PROBLEM!!!! I NEVER NOTICED HOW MANY THERE WERE ON TV UNTIL THIS.....JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE ELSE NOTICED IT AS MUCH AS I HAVE.... Good luck to everyone being banded tomorrow. Hope all is well with everyone who has been banded. My post-op appt is Tuesday morning. I have one more week of full liquids, then on the 25th pureed for 2 weeks, then soft for 2 weeks, then regular food. Like someone else said, I'm kind of scared to start regular foods again, but I'll just take it slow and concentrate to chew, chew, chew... Take care all, Jackie
