tipsby great posting. I was jolted awake by your "fighting with the band" comment. I feel like I have been fighting with it the entire 6 years. I hope you have found peace with yours and I will do my best to follow your lead. thank you!

tipsyb got a reaction from Christina.Rose in Confused on what surgery to have
You know I have learned over the fourteen months that I have been banded that I do not need to be precious about my decision. I have still three stone to lose , do I think that the band has failed me ? No I don't , do I think I should have had the sleeve , bypass ect no I don't. All of these procedures are because we are primarily addicts who have looked for the quick fix on each occasion. I am facing my daemons for the first time because I have no option. It's making me see life as it is and should be not as it once was through a haze of over eating and self loathing. I'm sure in years to come my band may need changing adjusting taking out. There may be a better intervention. I'm just glad today I'm here , five stone lighter and happy. It's all I need for today.

tipsyb reacted to electronicart in Is The Band Really Failing You, Or Are You Failing The Band?
Before I decided to get banded I thought like many people do. I should be able to eat less, exercise more and lose weight. I lost and regained the weight (usually more) over and over again. A few of my friends got banded and they all had mixed results. So, I went into this journey knowing the band is a tool. I knew my life would change, not just because of having lap band, but, because I WANTED it to change.
Now, I love my band, but as most of you know, its not always easy living with the band. Fast food is pretty much out, so is bread and sodas. I could choose to drink milkshakes and Cookies, but, I choose to live a healthier lifestyle. When my tummy hurts because I ate too fast or didn't chew my food, I learn that I must continue to use this tool the way it is intended. I am a work in progress.
It is SO worth it. I love being able to move easier and hear the doctor say "your lab results are outstanding". I would do it all over again.

I'm way past caring what people think anymore lol, the way I see it is that I am saving my life, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol ect ect , the side effect is weight loss. I am down to the last three stone and I'm expecting at some stage the " ypu have lost too much now" conversations. These are the issues of others not me. I'm too busy recovering to recover anyone else.

I had a work colleague say in a meeting, oh I heard you had lost weight you have done it before though so what's different this time ? In a roomful of people I replied "a gastric band" one very red face and a round of congratulations!

tipsyb reacted to cheryl2586 in Weight loss stall, not feeling full...getting discouraged
Another thing you need to do is measure your food. You should never say stop eating you have eaten enough. Its a new life style now and until you can eyeball the correct amount of food your surgeon said is right for you, you definitely need to measure it and not go over that amount. This is not a race it is a forever thing. It's never ending and you have to do this for the rest of your life or basically be right where you started. Fills are never going to stop the amount you eat unless your band is so tight that you can't eat but that is no life to have either. You will have to do the controlling of everything you eat. Your not eating to get full.
