My Story
Thank you for sharing. Welcome. I had the lapband placed seven years ago, thought like you that that would do the trick, but in the end, I should have went with the rny to begin with. Because those are seven years i could have been getting healthier. So hoping my insurance will cover the band removal and the rny. I am so happy you have your precious son. And I wish for you the health and energy to enjoy every moment with him and your hubby.

I am in the process of getting approved for a revision from lap band to rny. I had my lap band seven years ago. Only lost about 30 maybe 40 pounds. It did nothing for any of my illnesses, like diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma which is now COPD. I have gained and lost and gained those pounds over the seven years and now at my heaviest. I didn't think I needed the rny back then, but now I know that I did and sure wish I had done that. I haven't had any horror stories with the band, and I am still glad I did it, because I think it may have helped me from gaining even more weight. But I need the malabsorption and the restriction and hoping the actual surgery will help with the diabetes. Good luck with you. Ask lots of questions and you will make the right decision for you. And listen to your Doctor he knows what procedure will help you most.

Question For Post Opers
we all have so much in common, I have two special needs step children. I was blessed to be able to raise four healthy sons and now I have the extra blessing of being a step mom and helping these kids be all that they can be. Pretty cool. When the weight loss center asked about my support system, and concern about my special needs children, I said oh you don't have to worry about that they will HELP me. And they do. My stepson is 17 and has cerebral palsy and non verbal, but never shuts up, lol, he is like my little nurse when I am sick. My step daughter is 28 and her diagnosis is mild to moderate retardation. She can't read and mixes things up. But she works full time at Kroger and she is a great help. So maybe these kids are raising me.

Wow
kind of a cleansing feeling too isn't it, out with the old, in with the new. I am in a use it up mode. Don't want to buy anymore things like makeup, shampoo, cleaning supplies ect. till we have used everything up. Kudos to you for taking this step. Cause it is big, you are saying NO MORE, not going back there. Good for you.

Protein Powder And Yogurt?
I am pre op and I have been eating a lot of yogurt and adding one scoop of unflavored protein powder to it. I have had a bad tooth for the past several weeks and got it pulled last week. So I feel like I have had kinda a trial run eating the yogurt and getting the protein in. One of my favorites has been the Dannon greek 2xprotein vanilla yogurt with a scoop of unflavored protein and about a tablespoon of sugar free pudding mix, pistachio yum, but I bet that won't be good to soon after surgery, but banana pudding has been good. It is like eating some fancy desert to me. NOW all this may change after surgery. But this could be a good option for those that can't stand to drink the shakes.
